Hangout is sort on its own, but it is moving into mainstream spectrum where Lolla, ACL stay as opposed to Hula, Waka, Scamp, Biscoe are all pretty unknown. That's my point.

My differentiation is that the bigger city fests may share acts, but I don't think they go out of their way to be extra pop or commercial. Hangout now does.

I suppose the bigger are pop by default by the sheer size and spectrum of booked acts. Hangout is still sizeable to be considered "niche" but is now moving towards pop acts. Even look at the low, low card with tons of random DJs, electronic acts and singers as opposed to alt/indie/rock bands.
Yeah, I'm not disputing that. I'm saying Lolla, ACL etc. don't exclusively (or 90%) go for pop acts. Sure, many of the headliners are popular which is why they are headliners. But I'm referring to Popular as Top 40 type stuff. Foo Fighters or Pearl Jam or someone like that may have the occasional big hit or #1 album. But they're not formulaic pop.
IDK, I totally understand the new marketing push for younger demo on the beach. At the same time, I thought they were doing well before GV/2015. I would like to see them go back to a more inclusive and representative lineup, but if they don't, I'll move to another show or activity. I have fun at the beach whether Hangout is there or not.

Speaking of fun, Xmas Presents so far include a handle of Goose with martini glasses and a nice 5th of Crown XR Extra Rare. I don't usually drink blended whiskies, but I'll make an exception.
It takes passion and perseverance to create the finest whiskey ever made. I proudly introduce the newest Crown Royal XR, the pinnacle of Crown Royal craftsmanship. The name stands for extra rare, what makes this product so special.
Crown Royal XR is an exquisite blend crafted with a small reserve of the final batch of whiskeys that were saved from the renowned LaSalle Distillery before it closed. Located on the island of Montreal, the LaSalle Distillery produced whiskeys with unique richness, attributed to the fine water surrounding the island. The resulting taste is full bodied and exceptionally smooth.
For me, LaSalle is also part of a personal legacy. It is where I became an apprentice to the Master Blender, learning the craft of blending the world's finest whiskey.
You have my gratitude for giving me the opportunity to blend this special whiskey. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Then I'm hitting this new restaurant for lunch. I need this crap in my life. I'm probably not going to get the whole fish since it's just me today. Maybe a steak with some lemongrass reduction or whatever the **** they serve. Merry Christmas to me.

What are some of the bands you would like to see in a more inclusive/representative lineup?
Blues (Bonnie Raitt, Jamell Richardson, surely this close to Austin and Nola they can find some decent blues and jazz performers), jazz (Presevation Hall among others), Americana (Sturgill), bluegrass (OCMS/Steel-drivers), TTB, classic rock like Doobies, Foreigner, Journey among others, rock (Lenny was an awesome call last year), country (Kacey Musgraves, Jamie Johnson, Chris Stapleton, Keith Urban), indie is pretty short this year. The current lineup is EDM, Alternative and Pop with just a handful of others. I personally think Mumford is sort of bluegrass and alt, but not much else as far as diversity. Too much MTV and not enough VH1, CMT, AXS, Soul Train....LOL.
Maybe somewhere among all the younger crowd someone would catch a performance by someone playing a different style of music and pick it up. I'm looking forward to the next Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Stevie Ray Vaughn, etc., showing up.

Wanted to wish everyone a merry Christmas. I'm playing and singing for our Christmas service at Church. Between caroling for a lot of folks who are struggling, nursing homes, recent lost love ones, homeless, and helping out with this service, I am truly blessed. Hope you have a safe, joyful, and peace filled holidays!
LMAO. What I think he's saying is that he doesn't care. You could see Krips at a pretty technical show, but then he'll be psyched up by the ultra-pop. I can't ever hate on him, because he's a nice and friendly individual on the forum and in person. But he is obviously way more tolerant of Goldenvoice's direction than most everyone else here and will probably strive to make the best of it. Sarah is similar in that she likes the festival and will go for the perks and beach week as long as there are at least a couple of acts worth seeing.
*nods* If I can find 15-20 acts worth seeing and keep to my bubble in VIP, it's all good. You couldn't pay me to face the crowd in GA. They are too young and obnoxious to deal with.
Anyone selling a VIP ticket? I'm interested if so for my brother. Let me know please and thanks. Can't wait for this year. Bringing 12 friends down from Buffalo!!
I will say if there are late additions, this could get me back. PJ Harvey has a break right after the 12th. While I couldn't see her wanting to perform at this setting, I think Sigur Ros' booking could justify her being booked. (also her smaller club shows are fucking $70)
I bought remastered Santana and Fleetwood Mac greatest hits to go in my collection....LOL. I was missing Sara and Gypsy. The $14.99 Santana greatest hits is a perfect collection for me. Got $40 from my nieces in iTunes cards.
I'm pondering the thought that Mutemath straight backs 21P for their whole headlining set....which would really fucking blow to miss.
So I did that rating system for this line up that Estaban did last year where every artist is rated 1-10 and you find the avg. I believe my rating for this year's (2016) was 5.1 (no way I'm looking for that post). This year is a drop to 4.45, which explains my initial hesitation to go.
The line-up is lacking 12 bands from last year, so I still think either additions will be added, or a stage will be nixed.

I am thinking they will axe the BMI stage. It was better this past year with it being on the beach, and I saw a couple of bands there that were interesting, but honestly I only saw sparse crowds at that stage. I wouldn't be surprised if they did away with it and made the Malibu Beach Tent and the area around it bigger and more inviting...that place was always full and had a ton of people lounging around outside of it.
if i were going id be bummed if the removed the BMI stage. I really enjoyed it being on the sand, def made the shows even more fun. But yea that Malibu tent was insanely packed everytime i walked by, the year prior it seemed half empty most of the time.
by the way Pigeons Playing Ping Pong ruled last night!

that would be sick but i think its more likely they come out to back a few songs. I would try to watch on the live stream if they do get announced as the full backing band. Not that its on the same level of the card but i remember Dawes backing Conor Oberst in '14.

That's such a cool band. I think moten suggested I catch them. I remember sort of loving it, but it was the last show at Euphoria, so...
Pigeons are so good. Bought my ticket to their festival which is the same weekend as Hangout yesterday. Three nights of Pigeons playing till sunrise. Should be great. Their profile is definitely increasing. They are at Lockn' and Electric Forest this year and have their first west coast tour coming up. Such a fun show.
