I would hope we get someone in the 'legend' category if mum and 21p have 2 slots.
Why? This festival is about catering to the 18-25 year olds who just want some nice choons to rage to while they party on the beach.
There's still a slight hope that they can mix it up and drop in acts that will cater to some in the older demographic. The overwhelming majority of the card will be focused on that key demo but you'd think they'd still want some variety besides straight radio pop, hip hop, and edm.
Metallica will never ever play Hangout Fest. I've learned to not even let hard rock/metal headliners cross my mind. (NIN, Tool, Metallica, etc.)
Agree. I definitely think Tool, NIN, Mastodon, etc will never be booked for this fest...but I think Metallica could be an exception...they have much more mainstream appeal. But, yes a very very very long longshot.
In the early years of Hangout some of us tracked the mocks to actual lineups. We were all so crappy at predicting who would be on the final lineup we gave up. Mocks do serve a purpose in passing time til we actually have the real thing. My favorite Hangouts were the new/alternative on Friday (ZBB, Jack White, Black Keys, KOL), Rock on Saturday (Tom Petty, Foos, RHCP), and Classics on Sunday (Paul Simon, DMB, Outkast, Stevie Wonder), and would love to see Hangout move back in that direction after last year. Wish - Mumford and Sons or KOL/ Metallica or AC/DC/ Neil Young or Santana. Probably - Mumford/Calvin/Usher. Stay tuned.

Wishful thinking on my part for Metallica. However, we have had Foo Fighters before who plays almost as hard as they do. They're playing the South America Lollas I know for sure. I think Metallica is more likely for Voodoo next year unless they have a Smoothie King Center/Superdome stop in New Orleans for the tour.

They were awesome in 2012. That was the first time I had seen them. And I'll see them every chance I get now. F the haters. Metallica rules. Metallica/U2/Skrillex/J. Cole Voodoo 2017

A Skrillex Friday night, Metallica Saturday night, and U2 Sunday night closer would be epic. I'd give up half the undercard for that. Throw in an AC/DC pre-party...dang. Burning down the beach. Make it glass!
G-Eazy | DJ Snake | Band Of Horses | Bastille | Porter Robinson
Big Gigantic | Young The Giant | Bryson Tiller | Nathaniel Rateliff
Sia would headline over Phoenix.
I guess I need someone to explain Sia as a phenomenon that she is on this board. I watched some of the livestream from Coachella last year. And I'll give it up that she has a very nice voice. And her dancer was apparently the star of the local show here a week or two ago (per local music critic newspaper writer). But the music doesn't really do anything for me. I don't generally want to go see a "singer" perform. Admittedly, I'd probably see Kate Bush, but she'd be with a live band of comparative talent. But it's hard to think of any other female singer that would be worth going see just to watch them or hear them sing. Maybe it's just me, and I'm not hating on Sia by any means. It's just not really anything that I find overall that interesting.
I think both would be great bookings as Surf Closers with an EDM act on Saturday (Kygo, Disclosure, Bassnectar, etc) but I don't think Hangout has that kind of pull or budget. Just trying to think of that 3rd headliner if its not who I named earlier- KOL, Calvin, J Cole, Drake.

drake is a 1 at any festival he plays unless they also book a legacy like macca or the stones.
Right. What's your point? Drake | Mumford | 21 Pilots. I'm not saying Drake would be a #3. I'm just talking about who the 3rd headliner is that we don't know, assuming M&S and 21P are 100%.
A Calvin, Drake, J Cole top of lineup would have to include the best undercard in Hangout history for me to make the trip.
One of the three, ok...with Mumford and say Arcade Fire or a Neil Young/Mellencamp/Heart. A lot of folks on here not into rock classics, but a lot of folks are and Heart, Sheryl Crow, and Journey all were pretty popular at recent concerts. A TTB or Doobies on the lineup would sell tickets and balance the lineup like Lenny and Jason Isbell did last year. The Nate Ratliffe and Chris Stapleton additions also serve that purpose.

For a lineup that was "supposed" to drop yesterday, we still have very little info:
