1. nerdbyrd just likes arguing, apparently. I said I DID like everything, other than I didn't like Paul Simon as much as I hoped.
2. Nope, I haven't gone to bonnaroo before, I joined to talk about BSMF and no it wasn't to "complain", as the lineup wasn't even out when I started posting. I may be tempted to go to Bonnaroo some time, though, but I'm sure it will have even crazier people than this festival, a lot of people acting badly instead of wanting to just enjoy the shows.
3. I have gone to BSMF like 5 or 6 years. I wasn't even into music much when I was younger, so I missed a lot of good ones decades ago.
4. I don't boycott liberal singers or actors. it's usually the left who DOES boycott anyone to the right, though. Only one from the left I really try to stay away from are Sean Penn, Alec Baldwin, and Bruce Springsteen.

Just got home from Beale St. Festival. All the rain they forecasted during the festival, didn't happen. Yes, it did rain hard Friday & Saturday early, so it was pretty muddy. Memproo, you Dumb Ass. You go to see Neil Young & don't notice your at the wrong stage!!!!! Big crowds, like we said there would be & a lot people having a great time with no security issues or trouble that we experienced.
Friday - The Struts started the festival and put on a really good performance to a large crowd. Bounced around seeing a little blues before Grace Potter, Went back to the Blues tent To watch Doyle Bramhall, The only show all weekend that I witnessed that the sound was really bad, for some reason the main speakers didn't work and they were running on monitors only (it sucked). Neil Young was really good.
Saturday - We showed up to see Lucinda Williams 1st, disappointed and left after 4 songs. Houndmouth wasn't much better. We left to walk the girls back to our place & eat and returned for Modest Mouse. What a great F-ING show, sound was perfect, don't miss these guy's if you have chance to see them. By the way, because of the storms that morning they opened the festival about 2 hrs. late & cancelled the first 4 acts of the day.
Sunday - Started the day with Blackberry Smoke, love these guy's. And even met the bass player & piano player later watching Paul Simon. Before Paul took the stage, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats stole the show, They were loud, energetic and into every song they played. Out performed Paul Simon , hands down. Seen Beck put on his normal outstanding show, he said they were weathered out at Jazz Fest. The festival wasn't over until Zedd finished, he never should have started. He was awefull, If this is what Phroo likes, well that's some bad shit, people couldn't leave fast enough. Also met & talked with the bass & guitarist for the Night Sweats outside a hotel they were at (Madison).
All in all had a great time, next Summer Camp. J.D., do you have any advise for this? 1st time going.

The same advice that I have for everything: Have a good time, all the time. Seriously, get a kid's 4-wheel wagon to pile your stuff into, and some bungee cords to hold it together. The trip from parking to the gates is pretty lengthy, so you'll want to consolidate as much as possible. The Saturday kickball game with Ryan Stasik of Umphrey's is about as much fun as one can have fully clothed at 8:00 AM, plus it's for charity. If you're into camp cooking, that's cool, but there are plenty of reasonably priced food trucks on site. The showers are expensive and hard to get into; I recommend Handi-wipes. rcat is being dumb again. I chose weezer over Neil Young. So I didn't look ultra closely to the schedule to be totally sure where Neil Young was. After weezer, I WAS LEAVING, so I had to go past the bud light stage. I THOUGHT he was at that stage. All I heard was the end of one song and then purple rain. I didn't go looking to confirm who was up there. I was not near the stage itself. I guess you're just mad you missed weezer. I would have liked to see some of Neil, but sure not a 35 minute song form him.... I guess I could have seen his last 20-30 mins had I known he was shoved way back on the bad stage.
I watched zedd to see another show to get my moneys worth. Notice all the young people thought it was so great. All I aid was it was a good way to end the festival because it was something unique, not like the rest of the festival.

It's hilarious how quickly rcat proved he's a hypocrite. And the funniest part is almost every tweet BSMF is retweeting is about how great zedd was. I have now officially proven I am the one most open to giving artists chances on here, and rcat is the worst and is a complainer.

I didn't get worked up. I simply told the truth that they could have got higher end artists. But I still appreciated the ones who were there. But keep in mind, as much as I enjoyed it, I only went around 6-8pm each day, whereas in the past they had good enough groups to warrant being there all day. Again, I am the one who complained, but I enjoyed it, while others pretended to love the lineup, yet they mysteriously didn't even go to it and the ones who did, such as rcat, are bashing artists such as zedd.

Only thing Zedd had going for him was a great light & Pyrotechnics show, easy to see how the young crowd would like that. But you put him on stage in the middle of the day, his music alone isn't going to hold on to anyone, even Phroo. I lean toward someone who can keep you entertained without any help with lights or gimmicks. IMO, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats were the best band before darkness fell, Then I'll go with Modest Mouse, Beck & Neil Young, in that order. I didn't say the music itself was great. Just that the type of performance was a good way to end the festival. BSMF doesn't even have fireworks like Coachella does, so at least it was some cool effects to end things on and the music itself was kind of cool when you don't listen to that type all the time, even though it was sure mighty repetitive.
I didn't go earlier because I was sleeping weird hours and so it would have been a mess where I would have been going without enough sleep. If the bands were bigger names, I would have probably got my sleeping on a more normal schedule ahead of time.
I probably rate them: Beck, Weezer, Modest Mouse. Then after that, it's tougher, and plus I am not so sure I rate modest mouse ahead of panic at the disco. I guess I do, but I didn't think that many modest mouse songs were exactly great and they went overboard on loudness to the point of distorting the sound, which I don't like. Even hard groups can go too far on loudness. Who wants to hear distorted songs due to too loud bass and the vocals were distorted too. But seemed like later in their set it was not so bad, so maybe they adjusted something.
Really even Beck didn't have a lot of "great" songs, it's just he and modest mouse had a nice energy level and the songs did sound good. Personally, I still like more actual songs by weezer, which is why I had to punt neil young and go with weezer.
If you get this worked up over BEALE STREET, you should probably never attempt Bonnaroo.

You'll never understand that musical taste is a personal preference and no one will ever fully agree with each other and that people can love a lineup and NOT go to a festival.
Have loved all the suggestions so far for memphis. 1 large call a cab was enough to get the party started when we got into town a little after 9 on Friday. yesterday visited rock and soul, silkies, civil rights museum, central bbq, absinthe bar, dyers & peabody. Was going to do rendezvous and Gus' today but see rendezvous is closed Sundays so guess it is back to central BBQ instead. (Not disappointed at all though because got sandwich yesterday and today will be ribs!). Todays agenda includes a trip to sun studios. was wanting to do graceland with seeing paul simon and all but honestly having difficulty justfying the $40 price and expect it to be super busy and dont want to waste half the day waiting on a tour slot since not signed up already. Memphis is a hellova cool town and really feel my safety concerns were overblown. Baltimore and Cincinnati's downtowns seem worse to me by comparison to name a couple other places I have visited in the past. Definitely can see myself coming back in the future for more bsmf. Thanks guys for making this first time so cool by your suggestions.
