Original material, man. Wins every time. I do like the Phosphorescent and Jenny Lewis version of Sugaree as well as the few other tracks I've heard from Day Of The Dead.
I use to rely on this thread. Now I can barely read it. You people and your tournaments and drafts. You're ruining everything.
So what is the connection betweeen theis and drunken ramrbling, in other words........
TELL ME YOUR SECRETS???

Anna Wise's EP The Feminine: Act 1 is pretty awesome despite it being less than 17 minutes long. Not going to be my vote this month (obvi) but it's worth your time to check it out. I mean it's only 16 minutes long, people! Just do it already!
And if you can only spare five minutes of your life, then at least check out the song Go.

What's wrong with making listening to new music as little fun as possible?
I love consuming new music, but between work, school, and kids, dedicating time to listening to unheard music can become exhausting. Trying to decide on my favorite albums of a given month/year keeps me motivated to continue consuming new music. I think the end-of-year tournament and voting for positioning in it is overkill. In a perfect world we would just come in here and each declare our personal favorite album for the month, but I appreciate the filter this thread creates for new releases.

We need more specific guidelines. I think I may have voted early twice in the past two years and only did this month since I won't be on here for 2-3 weeks. Technically I voted at the 1/3 mark (not 1/4)... not that it matters (it's just an online poll) but under that rule mine would count? The deadline might need to be a specific date (20th? 1st of the next month?). This is too much thought this early in the morning... I am going to return to Radiohead. /:-)

I don't think the tournament really hurts anything. If people don't like it, they don't have to vote in it. It's in its own separate thread from this. I started the tournament cause I thought it would be something interesting people can take part in.
And there's only been a couple times where people have voted a certain way in order to do a particular thing regarding the tournament. It isn't common. Even among people who do strategize votes, it doesn't happen more than a couple times a year.
It takes two votes to qualify for the end-of-year playoff. It usually takes three to make the field of 64 outright. Some people may vote for a second choice in a given month, to give the album a second or third vote - rather than pick an album which has no other support.
I can't imagine this happens all that often. Even I rarely consider going that route. Haelos, my second favorite album of March, would have been a good time to strategy vote - but I still went with Mind Spiders.
I'll strategically vote if my top couple are really close to each other and I expect that one may be a grower and want it to have a shot in the tournament
I get the whole "let's find out what the Inforoo consensus is for top albums of the year" thing, but I don't like it turning into a competition. it just seems like a whole lot of effort for something that could be fairly easy to predict. That and I hate the "Album vs Album" format. Everyone make a list. Score each album accordingly on each list. Done.
