Let's wave the white flag. Rap sucks and hippies are dead. Roo'16
Yeah, all the hippies turned into flat brimmed ravers and the hip hop at the top of Roo '16 does kinda suck (IMHO)
This has already been discussed and agreed upon around here. But this guy skipped Kendrick because he thinks that Kendrick raps about "bitches and money." I'd like for him to point to 3 rock artists that have tackled issues as complex as the ones Kendrick tackles on GKMC and especially TPAB

He has too many bitches and money, its a big problem for him.

And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts

Uhhhhh doesn't anyone remember when Tame Impala singlehandedly enacted gender equality with "'Cause I'm a Man"?

Weezer - Walk the Moon - Phish
I'll give you half, but not quite.
A shortlist of concepts Kendrick writes about include, but are not limited to: Race Equality Gang Violence & Influence Peer Pressure Depression Struggles of Compton / tough neighborhoods "Survivor's Guilt" Negative influence of Drugs & Alcohol Roots Self Love
Really a lot more but I've already put too much effort into this absurd argument.
I like Kendrick and I'm in no way endorsing the other guys' argument, but let's not get out of hand here. K-dot is still out there hustling for Reebok and hawking autographed records on his site - he's not exactly Che Guevara.

Wow this is shocking. I mean the whole "rap is about bitches and money" thing...like that's nothing new. But I mean really, who doesn't like bitches and money? I mean we all like making money, we all like being successful at what we do and making money is a part of that. And we all like fornicating. Now sexism isn't cool, and that's a whole longer discussion to be had on what we're okay with and what we're not okay with. But through my experience, both men and women can say some pretty misogynist sounding shit in songs (is there a female version of the word misogynist? I should probably just find a different word) as entertainment....and not actually totally believe those words they are saying. Whether it's an artists saying it, or literally a bunch of white girls in the audience yelling the lyrics "got a main bitch! got a mistress!" or "all I want for my birthday is a big booty hoe". Or like Kendrick could be like "I love bad bitches that's my fucking problem" annnddddd he married his high school sweat heart that he's been with for 10 years.
But anyways the whole Kendrick thing....wow. Like you really think Kendrick doesn't talk about anything? And you want us to name the issues to you like a 12 year old. I'm sorry but Kendrick doesn't write straight forward hippie folk songs...."here's one about the whales....and this next one is about world peace". Explaining the issues Kendrick talks about in a way you might be able to understand, would basically require me to write an essay. Which I don't feel like doing. But if you really want to know, why don't you try listening to his music? Hey the first song off Section 80...that's a pretty straight forward message right there.
Edit: oh and I meant to throw this in too

Thank you. I couldn't bring myself to write out a response, but this is pretty much what it would have been.

I don't think pointing out that someone explores deeper issues in their music means that person has to be an ideologue.
I mean, I should also say that I don't really care if whatever rap album/artist in question is 'deep' either. I mean, I'm one of the few people (by my estimation) on this board who actively likes Young Thug, Future, Fetty Wap, etc. But also don't care if a rock album/artist is deep either. Or pop. Or dance. Or R&B. Or country. Or...
EDIT: Related-Currents is my favorite Tame Impala album. It's not that deep. This discussion shouldn't have to be, either.

I thought this song was about being a transvestite. "Cause I'm a man-woman"

Thanks for the effort. I'm not familiar with his material. I believe Dylan, Pete Seeger, Bob Marley, Hendrix, RATM, Pearl Jam qualify and generally cover your list

This is the real point we've all been trying to make. You can't just imply all of an artists music is about "bitches and money" when you aren't familiar with any of it.
And I'd argue that Dylan (at his most political), Seeger, and Marley aren't rock

I don't like bitches and money. I like women and wealth. There's a difference. It doesn't matter race, gender, age, we all have a meaningful purpose. I know I had a 2 live crew tape. Seemed ground breaking at the time. But it faded cause I realized there are other people in this world that matter more than I, me, mine. Kendrick may have substance but he is using a gangster shell to express it

My bad, but to be fair the Weezer addition threw me off because their earlier stuff had some interesting themes.

So gangster shell = skin color here, right? Because I don't think Kendrick could really help what color his 'gangster shell' is, sorry. I'm trying to find a way to read this that isn't racist, but frankly I'm struggling.
