Impractical Jokers is one of the only shows I watch that isn't sports related, so fucking funny. I'm sure Sal's stand up if pretty funny, it would just be a pretty cool "get" if they got the whole gang.

This might be the worst major festival lineup of 2017. This makes Hangout look good.
I disagree that it makes Hangout look good. Krisplettuce was saying the same thing on the Hangout thread, and before it spreads like typical groupthink...
They are almost equally poor though Sasquatch has some midcarders that are probably more interesting than Hangout's. Hangout has Mumford and Sons, but they don't really do anything for me. So they have that one bigger act. Then they have Sigur Ros and Weezer. Both share 3 of the other Top 4 from Hangout (Twenty One Pilots, Frank Ocean and Chance). So that's pretty much a wash. Sasquatch has The Shins, Phantogram, Bonobo, Big G, Bomba Estereo, Bob Moses, Charles Bradley, Vulfpeck, Car Seat Headrest, Catfish and the Bottlemen, American Football, The Oh Sees, Jagwar Ma, Freedia. In comparison, Hangout has: Weezer, Sigur Ros, Band of Horses, Ferg, Mac Demarco, Shaggy and Warpaint. They also have Major Lazer who are generally terrible. DJ Snake, Marshmello, Charli XCX, Lil Yachty, Cash Cash, Louis the Child and Snakehips. That reads like a who's who of shit you couldn't pay me to see.
In the end, Hangout gets at least a D if not a D- whereas Sasquatch is probably just a generic "D". Both lineups are poor. Both are lineups I'd only attend if I lived within driving distance.

You are correct that it can definitely improve still because the pre-Party could be great - or it could be Matt & Kim. I only had interest in 2 acts (both of which I saw) at Malibu Tent back in 2015. The rest was mostly bottom rung and unknown performers. Jillionaire was good. I will revise my grade to almost failing but still incomplete. Hopefully that information is out in the next few weeks.

LiveNation has owned it since 2006. It has always been Adam Zacks and his team booking it. Nothing has changed behind the scenes compared to previous years. But if you don't like it, you don't like it. Don't go. I'm not.

I've got nothing against LiveNation and I live on the opposite side of the country, so I've never really seriously considered going (also BC is the same weekend).
I just can't help but notice what seems to be a significant drop off in quality this year. It doesn't actually affect me at all, I just like talking about lineups...

Last year this fest had a pretty amazing lineup; and nobody went. So now instead of The Cure, they got Twenty One Pilots to try and court the college kids. I don't like it. But I bet they do a lot better.

I'm lucky it's only 2 hours away from me! This will be the first year I don't go to Bonnaroo in 8 years, and that's all because of Okeechobee. I hope this festival continues to prosper, book bigger and better lineups, and overall is a success.

There's plenty of talent going around, the industry is simply choosing to homogenize and promote acts that are fairly accessible/have a low barrier of entry.
Though financially you can't blame them, when you read stories about more serious, expensive acts like Nick Cave and Bjork getting small crowds at their respective festival slots. Sad!

I look at Sasquatch and I think, well now the Madison Square Garden company purchased and expanded Boston Calling. So unless you are a headliner like Chance, most acts have to make a choice now.

I read somewhere that Sasquatch only had 11,000 attendees last year. So I could see them panicking with a lineup like this. I just don't think they should've went full on mainstream, because now for the most part: they've alienated their original audience. Same goes for Roo, I've talked to a bunch of Roo frequent attendees, and most aren't going.

That being said I still would choose this over Roo. I'm really really mad at Roo. I went last year, because while it was off: there was still purity ring, Tame Impala, Ween, Les Claypool, Kamasi, Shamir...just to name a few standouts. But 2017 Roo is a big FU to most people. They're going through an identity crisis, hopefully they figure it out sooner than later.

Sasquatch happens to be at the same time as Primavera, so that particular weekend definitely makes it tougher. I think the issue is that the bands we'd like to see headline (both established acts and up-and-comers) aren't receiving the type of turnout that they used to, which makes them unattractive to festival bookers. This is not just the case in the USA, but also at the bigger European festivals. Which becomes a self-perpetuating cycle for the future. Think of large alternative/subversive 90's and 2000-era acts such as RATM, Tool, Bjork, Sigur Ros, Underworld, The Prodigy, Radiohead, and Portishead that managed to grow and become huge (i.e., top of the bill, arena sized). If those acts started off in the past few years, would they be able to become just as big?

Well I think it is going to be an act by act type of thing. Some acts that have come out recently like Bon Iver, The xx, RTJ, Kendrick, ect. are doing some really amazing stuff and I think 10 years from now, people will be saying the same thing about them. Fads come and go. Unfortunately college kids these days like some pretty horrible music. But that'll come and go too.
