Probably not. It would take a major lineup shift to bring me back. I downloaded the livexlive app to my roku and every time I turned on the stream I found myself switching over to Rock On The Range.
I also don't feel like "ninja" is a suitable replacement. "A more tasteful substitute for "the N-word", as Urban Dictionary calls it is still just a substitute for the N word. Using it as a sign of camaraderie as in "my ninja" is even more cringe worthy.
*shrugs* I feel like you have to substitue it with some other word to make the song flow. What would you suggest instead?
Meant no disrespect there. I don’t think any word would be sufficient. Honestly wish we didn’t need a replacement which is why I’d prefer it just phase out. If that were the case no one would be left to be in such a predicament. You don’t really hear other slurs used so freely throughout our culture. I just feel like we give it oxygen by appropriating it through each variation.
I personally feel like no one should use the word, period. Definitely would like to see everyone phase it out of their vocab no matter the use. I edit myself at shows and I don't think that's crazy.

Yeah, personally I wouldn't be subbing in a word that sounds so similar in a loud, concert setting as you might be misheard. Also, I think it's super dumb.

None taken. In a perfect world, it would be phased out. In the meantime, what does one do? Not listen to music with that word? That seems drastic.

Listen up black people, you need to stop saying the n-word in your music! The minor inconvenience of not saying it out loud in public while rapping along is too much to bear!!!
I understand this girl is an idiot for merely reciting the lyrics verbatim, but I kind of doubt Kendrick Lamar was as offended by this girl's actions as some of the people on this board. Do you also boycott Quentin Tarantino? The girl is clearly not racist if she's gone out of her way to be at a black guy's concert, front and center, and memorized all the words, and is clearly thrilled to be on-stage with him. I don't want to seem like the Fox-News or Trump-Supporter type, because I'm not at all, but imo it was just cringey and in bad taste, not offensive.
03/14 - Thievery Corporation 04/25 - Black Country, New Road 05/04 - In Flames, Gatecreeper 05/10 - Modern Life is War 05/21 - Spite, Bodysnatcher, Thrown 05/29 - Knocked Loose, Loathe, Show me the Body, Speed 06/02 - Bush 06/22 - George Thorogood 06/23 - Dillinger Escape Plan, Deadguy, Candy, Carbomb
Not sure anyone is claiming it was anything more than that. Meanwhile you have people saying they lost respect for Kendrick in this situation.
The outrage on this board seems to indicate otherwise. And people losing respect for Kendrick is equally absurd.. this will be forgotten by everyone who wasn't there in a week's time. If anything, I would think it would be more offensive for Kendrick to ignore the vast majority of white people at this fest, and find a black girl to bring on stage to sing his lyrics to try to avoid the cringe factor. Seems to me that all Kendrick was trying to do was include the crowd in a racially blind manner, which despite how it played out, is reason to gain respect for an artist in my eyes.

Not what we were talking about at all. Stop being a troll.

A few things here. First off, most of the conversation has not revolved around whether this girl is a racist or not, but on whether it was appropriate for her to use that word (on stage or in any fashion). So to make it about whether or not she's a racist is pretty reductive.
Secondly, you can absolutely enjoy elements of black culture and still be a racist. I'm not saying that's the case here (I don't know anything about this girl outside of this incident) but there are plenty of folks who enjoy popular rap artists/songs and will turn around and say some straight up racist shit. Again, I'm not saying she is or isn't, but being a Kendrick fan doesn't magically exempt you from the ability to be racist.

Can confirm. Grew up in an Italian neighborhood in Queens. Everyone listened to rap, everyone was racist

Whew. Let's keep a tally here: We got people blaming Kendrick "you are all telling me you edit yourself when you sing any song that drops the N bomb..." "I can't believe people are making such a big deal..." "I lost respect for Kendrick..." "Do I repeat all rap lyrics including the word... Sure." And my personal favorite: "In a perfect world, it would be phased out."
Because God-forbid Black people have anything in this country without White people whining, "But what about me!" It's fascinating to see people tell on themselves so openly and freely.
If you're not Black, don't say it. This is the opening and closing argument

I don’t think anyone should embrace a word that essentially stemmed from hate. The word is trash and all variations of the word are just that. I doubt those who suffered through slavery or the civil rights movement would appreciate how it’s been reclaimed, but all I can really do is never use it and educate those who do. It’s honestly the first rule I establish in all of my classes. We might read the word but we will never use it in any fashion - especially as a term of endearment and obviously out of hate. Anyways, I don’t really get what’s so telling by my comment other than I think it’s greatly inappropriate.
