Really surprised by all the comments on TFO’s post on this. A lot of people mad at Kendrick. Though I see the argument, it was likely a predominantly white crowd. He is just pulling from the front. Not using slurs is literally one of the easiest things you can do and she should have known not to. It’s never tasteful and is often very offensive to people.
to be fair everyone is offended by everything these days. i can only imagine the fake outrage by the 40k white kids in the crowd. that tweet pretty much sums it up that started this convo.
Saying everyone is offended by everything so why bother being a good person is literally the stupidest argument ive ever heard and is way too common.

has nothing to do with being a good person or not. If a male came up and sang 'bitch, dont kill my vibe' would be offended? actually even by the song in general?

This sentence does not make sense
are ok with Kendrick's song calling a girl a bitch for threatening to kill his vibe?
as for the actual topic, yea she shouldnt say it but i dont think its that simple when are caught up in the moment like that and its not like she was trying to be racist or offensive, she had the words memorized, shit happens.
I lost respect for Kendrick after that video and that's all I'm gonna say. There's no argument to made here, ppl are gonna think what they want about the subject regardless.

I don’t think he is using it specifically to a girl in that song. And I know she probably wasn’t trying to be racist but she should know not to use it. She was the third of three people called up to play Maad City last night and she was the only person to say it. She knew very well not to do it and did it anyway. To say she just got caught up in the moment is just as assumptive as saying she is racist. In reality we don’t know her intentions. I hope she does alright and hope this doesn’t ruin her life. She was an idiot in a very public place and hopefully learned from this.
White male defending the use of the N word by white person: "Ugh, PC culture is such bullshit"
very cool, very cool
Yeah... that's where I'm at too.
Whenever folks like that try to turn around and say "What, you actually censor yourself when you rap along?" ... umm, yes. It's really not that hard to just not say a word. It's a pretty low bar in fact.

If you're going to bring up random crowd memberss to sing a song, maybe don't have the N word be a major component of the part they're going to sing?
Bring them up to sing Swimming Pools or Humble or whatever, but those are the lyrics to the song. It's cringey, but if MAAD City is going to be the singalong, that's going to eventually happen.
also the incident aside i probably would have left during this set with him bringing up all these people from the crowd to sing during a headlining set. get that lazy shit out of here.

I don't think anyone comes out looking good.
I don't know that a person who probably doesn't have any relationship with the content needs to be performing this verse at all, if we're applying the same logic that says that person should not be saying the n-word. It seems almost silly to me that Kendrick would be ok with this woman rapping about gang violence in Compton, but draws the line at the use of that word.
That's just sorta my dumb, white perspective on it. Obviously, his opinion on his own art and that word is more valuable than mine.
I personally feel like no one should use the word, period. Definitely would like to see everyone phase it out of their vocab no matter the use. I edit myself at shows and I don't think that's crazy.
edit: I also don't feel like "ninja" is a suitable replacement. "A more tasteful substitute for "the N-word", as Urban Dictionary calls it is still just a substitute for the N word. Using it as a sign of camaraderie as in "my ninja" is even more cringe worthy.

I'll be honest, I had a lot of FOMO going on during the stream Friday. Saturday, I mourned the loss of my festival. This morning, I was so thankful to not be witness to that mess! So, most likely not... maybe 20%.

*shrugs* I feel like you have to substitue it with some other word to make the song flow. What would you suggest instead?
