I listen to at least a few songs off of 20 albums a week, and about 5-10 in full a week. I take my monthly top ten list very seriously. Like far too seriously

I was a bit underwhelmed by TWOD. I had high expectations after the singles but I thought it was kinda boring. Might need to revisit it later in a different mind set.
going to re listen to them all, but it's a five way race between Giz, Griz, Queens, TWoD, and the artists formerly known as Thee Oh Sees. Haven't listened to EMA, Downtown Boys, or the new Oh Sees thing that was released after Orc. Feel like I don't need to listen to Lil B or Brand New.

Same boat for me, a lot of it kinda ran together. I thought Lost in the Dream was a good deal stronger

I felt like it was about 15-20 minutes too long. Their sound is too one-note to carry me through 66 minutes of music. I'll pay more attention to the lyrics/melodies on my next listen, but sonically I got the point about halfway through.
But I've also never been crazy about their sound in general. It's good, but it's not much more than a 21st century update on my least favorite Springsteen era
My August winner: Grizzly Bear - Painted Ruins Favorite tracks: "Neighbors" - "Aquarian" - "Sky Took Hold" - "Four Cypresses" - "Losing All Sense" - "Three Rings" - "Wasted Acres" - "Glass Hillside"
I knew a long, long time ago that this album was going to be my winner, but I needed to hear it first to be sure . It definitely reached and in some ways exceeded my expectations! There isn't a weak track in the entire album, which is evidenced in the fact that I picked eight out of the eleven songs as my favorites. One of those left out is the main single for the album. I found myself really gravitating towards Ed's songs this time, which is strange because in general I'm more of a Daniel Rossen nut. But Ed stood out a little more this time, especially in his lyrics discussing and revolving around his divorce. I found a lot in common with the song "Neighbors" in particular. There were a lot of great albums this month, too. The War on Drugs delivered another stellar album. I was very pleasantly surprised that we got a collaboration album from two of my favorites King Gizzard and Mild High Club. Also, the Portico Quartet was highly overlooked this month. If you're a fan of Bonobo's latest, you'll probably dig these guys. I'm really looking forward to September.
2. The War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding - "Thinking of a Place" - "Pain" - "Up All Night" - "Strangest Thing" 3. King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard with Mild High Club - Sketches of Brunswick East - "Sketches of Brunswick East I-III" - "Countdown" - "Rolling Stoned" - "The Book" 4. Portico Quartet - Art in the Age of Automation - "Objects to Place in a Tomb" - "A Luminous Beam" - "Endless" - "RGB" 5. Queens of the Stone Age - Villains - "The Way You Used to Do" - "The Evil Has Landed" - "Feet Don't Fail Me Now" 6. Oh Sees - Orc - "The Static God" - "Keys to the Castle" - "Cadaver Dog" 7. BROCKHAMPTON - SATURATION II - "GUMMY" - "JELLO" - "JUNKY" 8. EMA - Exile in the Outer Ring - "Always Bleeds" - "33 Nilhilistic and Female" - "Blood and Chalk" - "Breathalyzer" 9. Soccer Mommy - Collection - "Allison" - "Out Worn" 10. Gus Dapperton - Yellow and Such - "I'm Just Snacking" (it's only a four song EP)

I love that Spotify has given up on keeping up with the name changes. "You know what Dwyer, screw you. You're 'Thee Oh Sees.'"
Why do I feel like I'm listening to Wilco outtakes with the new War on Drugs?
My first thought when listening to "Up All Night" was "Why does this sound like 'Wanna Be Startin' Something'?" so I think you're in a better place than I am.
Was a toss up between Oh Sees and Sannhet for me. In the end, I think I'll probably listen to Thee Oh Sees more. I don't know why, but Grizzly Bear has never connected with me. Same with TWOD. Both are bands that on paper, I should love. I've seen TWOD live at Levitation when I was getting a rail spot for Panda Bear. It was a good show, but on record they just fall a little flat. Like others have mentioned, it might be a little too one note?
I had really high hopes for Maya Jane Coles' new one too, but it suffers from being a double album imo. Some really good stuff on there, but some filler that could use to be cut as well. Could have used a little more variety too.
Liars didn't wow me either, but I've only given that one one listen so far. Will need to revisit it.

It's not the best LCD album, but it's def second best. They have 2 perfect 10 albums, this one included!!!!
Sound of Silver (10) > American Dream (10) > This Is Happening = s/t (9.5)
Seriously don't see how this isn't immediately on everyone's AotY list
I can't believe I agree with Bansheebeat about something. It's definitely my favorite album of the year. What songs do people think are forgettable? I genuinely love every song on this thing.

I like I Used To and Change Yr Mind individually, but one after another on the album drags a little.

Change Yr Mind is one of my favorites on the whole album. If I had to pick a least favorite song it's probably I Used To though.

oh baby, i used to, emotional haircut, and black screen haven't left much of an impression yet. I'm also not a huge fan of call the police or american dream - both good but not great.
