My biggest Thursday regret was going to Yelawolf and then the comedy tent in 2012, missing out on Kendrick and Alabama Shakes.
Silver lining, I did get to see Ali Wong in the comedy tent and hear her do her schtick about how anal sex is the best thing she's ever discovered. I was a little scarred after that.

yeesh, Yela in '12 was already on the decline.
You're telling me, this was my first Roo, when Radiohead were still "that band that plays Creep" and my top acts on the lineup were probably RHCP, Skrillex, Childish Gambino, Das Racist and Fun.
I like to think my tastes have matured since then, I hope.
Cloud Nothings The Growlers Pusha T Mac Demarco Bully Courtney Barnett Hinds The Orwells Raury Twin Peaks
Oh man, I'm going to look back at schedules to do this one.
1.Clutch/Mutemath/Black Angels 07 never left the tent 2.PTM 3.Local Natives 4.Courtney Barnett 5.White Denim x 2 6.Cloud Nothings 7.Ty Segall 8.Temples 9.Strand Of Oaks 10.Entrance Band
Yeah, that might be the most accurate description of Roo possible.
"Lollapalooza with some wooktronica in the middle of a farm in Tennessee"
Its amazing anyone ever wanted to go to this.
It's pretty uncool in my mind when people have no idea what they are talking about pile on the group think. This isn't singling you out because i'm not even sure what your point was or if it was being sarcastic. It would be a major stretch to find more than 3 artists that would even be associated with the term "wooktronica."
1) Big Gigantic - No, they are not really jamtronica but they play live and run in those circles.
2) Umphrey's McGee - Played more Bonnaroos than anyone else for a reason.
3) Greensky Bluegrass? - no, but a hip bluegrass band
4) Turkuaz? - No. They are a funk band
^^^ Amazing anyone thought this was a jamtonica fest.
Oh wait, but maybe 2016?
1) Dead & Company - Original Wooks; not jamtronica
2) Ween - No. Plays some of the jam festivals but is a rock band
3) GRiZ - Okay, he is in those circles though it's Future Funk and different
4) Lettuce - Yes.
5) Papadosio - Sure, count them in
2015?
1) Ben Harper & Innocent Criminals - No, jams a bit but more rock
2) Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood - Probably one of the best sets I saw that year, and these guys are original jam, not jamtronica
3) Moon Taxi - A rock band that plays some of the jam festivals because they are actually talented musicians
4) STS9 - the originals, and any festival that has them is automatically better
Maybe I'm missing the boat here, because 2-3 jamtronica acts in a given year hardly makes some shit "wook." I think Vulfpeck played and they could be considered wook, but it's a bit of a stretch.

I've been every year since 2009, and 2013 was by far my favorite year...I saw these exact same sets Thursday night, and that Thursday-Sunday was the best 4 days of Bonnaroo I've ever experienced...
Yeah, that might be the most accurate description of Roo possible.

I would say that the last 3 years have skewed from the wooktronica meta, but its always been an underlying theme of this festival going back to the beginning. Looking at acts like Emancipator and Conspirator, or things like Boombox who used to always show up on these lineups.
Also, maybe I'm painting with a broad brush, but to me, Griz, gramatik, Big G, Lettuce, Papadosio, STS9, and Bassnectar all fit into that group, with countless other small ones too. Basically what you'd see on a Bisco or Hulaween lineup too.
I'm not at all even trying to bash that type of music, it sells TONS of tickets wherever any of the above are booked, but, to me, its definitely at Bonnaroo's roots. They'd be better off booking more rather than less at this point, I think.

2013 was excellent. The fact that 3 of those I listed are some of the biggest bands out there now shows how good they were about booking back then. (not saying WTM, 21P or Alt-J are great now, but they are popular (Alt-J is still great though))

Japandroids and Tove Lo were a product of wanting to see Alt-J and Jungle, but the Tove Lo crowd and energy got her into the top 10 for me (and her boob flash) haha

How was no one else at Kendrick or Danny Brown in 2012?
Swimming Pools came out July 31st that year, so unless you were on the Section 80 train he slipped under the radar. I do remember reading about him being the "next big thing in hip hop" right before going, but then I remember getting him and Danny Brown mixed up too.
I'll always been impressed by that 5 year later headliner thread on here where a couple people hit on Kendrick.
How was no one else at Kendrick or Danny Brown in 2012?
I was at Kendrick. He did almost a whole UGK song. It was funny watching the mass exodus of his crowd when it ended and the swarm of Alabama Shakes fans taking their place. I skipped Danny for Orgone.

I was at Orgone. Who was on at the same time as Kendrick? Phantogram?

I also saw GZA (Liquid Swords) and Ludicris and Mac Miller.
those weren't on Thursday though.
Blackstar was awesome, I went to the set that shall not be Unchained instead of GZA. Thanks inforoo!
Oh shit. The reason I never come to Which Stage area because it makes me jump in in the middle. I only went to Bonnaroo twice, 12 and 15. In 15, I slept Thursday night after 5 days of Wakarusa and 3 Days of playing in the mountains. I had planned on seeing Gramatik. But 2012, we caught Alabama Shakes and then got lost on the complete other side of the campgrounds. Haha. Phone was dead and everything looked the same.
I completely agree but I got told 2 weeks ago that outside of New Orleans, Funk is now interchangeable with Jam apparently. I would have had no idea of that living here because Funk was always Funk.
