Lil Wayne was also on that lineup when I feel like his popularity was at a pretty high level. When people have told me about 2011 its been "The one Eminem and Lil Wayne headlined" even though Wayne was 7 on the bill.
edit: if this was the exact lineup in 2018 I think people would hate it.
I mean look if you booked the exact same lineup for Bonnaroo and Coachella, Coachella is always going to draw more attendees, solely because of the location. Coachella probably has 20-25 million people in a 3 hour radius, and Roo has maybe 4 million in a 3 hour radius. Throw on top of that the fact that LA and California's economy is booming, and the Southeast's economy is not. Using attendance numbers and stuff like that as a gauge between the two festivals and between Goldenvoice and LN is complete and utter BS, even tho Coachella does book better lineups imo.

Coachella also has a bigger budget and occurs at a time of year when they don't have to compete with as many other events for bookings.

Plus Coachella is massive in the pop culture world.
I didn’t even realize we were talking coach > roo tbh. I don’t really care to comment on that at this point. I was just comparing Eminem’s pull in 2011 to 2018.

With every US fest getting Em, Bonnaroo really needs to get Fleetwood to do well next year. I don’t know why they would think a Hangout in the blistering Tennessee June heat would sell well as FM -Jay Z - Killers

from 12-14 Bonnaroo and Coachella were close, since then it hasn't even been a discussion.
Funny though, I was just thinking how Roo could really recover in a year that Coachella booked Eminem, Beyonce and The Weeknd by putting out a well rounded lineup, but then I remembered its 2018 and live nation, so 21p and Eminem make a lot of sense.
It kind of just sounds like you guys are saying Coachella is better.
I'm saying its bigger. That doesn't always = better in my experience.
Sure. But some advantages Coachella has in terms of size does in fact make it better, regardless of how fair it is to compare it to Roo.
Being located closer to bigger cities, taking place at a less competitive time of year for booking acts, its financial capacity to book good acts, its stage and sound quality and size, etc.
Arguing that Coachella has inherent advantages that make it easier for it to succeed is one thing, but denying that such advantages don't in fact make it better doesn't make sense to me.

and if they did go the hangout route I don't think they need Em as the biggest get. They'd need like Rihanna or JT. That being said I really hope they go back a few years for the types of acts they book.

Just like musical taste, it is subjective. Some people do not like the experience you get from one, and enjoy the experience you get from somewhere else.

Also (and sorry to beat a dead horse) the intangible aspects of Bonnaroo were ways one could argue they beat out or at least competed with Coachella in the early 2010s.
In addition to booking generally great lineups up until about 2015 or 2016, Bonnaroo thrived in all the ways that Coachella was and is still deficient. Roo had longer sets, late night sets, comedy, better miscellaneous activity, plus affordability which all gave Roo distinct advantages over even the most top tier fests in the U.S. like Coachella.
But now, in addition to the milquetoast lineups, we've seen a spike in price, a reduction in set times, a decimation of late night sets, and just an overall lessening of the Bonnaroo product that made it worth it to drive to BFE Tennessee rather than fly out to Palm Springs.
People here have been to tons of fests. Most of the ones who hit up Coachella end up placing that experience at the top of their list. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.
