The thing with Chad Morris is when tbat offense works it's great. When it doesn't it's a quick 3 and out and your defense is back on the field way too quick. He'll have to have a very good defense, so the def coordinator hire is crucial. Also you're going to have to be patient because it's going to take 3-4 years just to get his guys in there.
Yup. Exactly as I figured. Morris is 14-22. He's awful. We should just get Butch back. Why are they avoiding Martin who is obviously going to be the greatest coach in the history of sport?
I think most college football fanbases have to do this every once in awhile. After you've had a few bad seasons, maybe you've had someone jilt you (or multiple people), and you think the only option is someone who values your program the way it should be valued, someone who bleeds (colors), an alum. That's how you get to Tee Martin. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but the fans are happy, and sometimes you have to take those chances. Honestly I do think it's time to do that.
The more I think about it, the more a route like Martin begins to make sense. I think Morris is a good coach. Like Sang said, he could be really successful given the right defensive coordinator, and I doubt he stays at SMU for the long haul. Tennessee is probably not the best place for him to make the jump to a bigger school though. Patience is really at an all-time low around here. Tennessee's fanbase is really getting to a place of magical thinking. The analogy I thought of earlier was when Inforoo used to go deep down the Daft Punk tangents. Some were realistic about chances. Some said Daft Punk's plans for the year didn't matter in regards to them playing Bonnaroo "because it's Bonnaroo". It seems a healthy portion of the fanbase is the latter right now. Tennessee should get a coach they want because it's Tennessee. Like Potent said, I think Tennessee's fans want someone to want them back right now maybe even more than they want someone who is going to win. With Brohm, Morris, etc, we're getting a coach who is coming because they are probably going to get paid better than market value and will have a ton of resources at their disposal. With Martin, you get someone who is coming because of that and because it's their school. The bonus to this is that I think Martin has the best chance of the fanbase being reasonable with him. He may be awful, but I think people won't be as hypercritical with him as they would one of the other candidates. Given the Tennessee's fanbase's recent actions, a few years of not looking psychotic would probably do wonders in the coaching search next time.

This is why Martin made sense, and I think this kind of hire was the only path to take after the Schiano disaster (Gundy seemed like a hail-mary attempt that was never going to work out, IMO).
Mullen going to UF is one of those "under-the-radar" hires that I think will really work out. Always been high on that guy.
That's wild. If the goal is to have the 4 best teams this is not it. It shouldn't be that reactionary every week. I mean this scenario isn't going to happen, just hadn't seen that one brought up.

fuck this committee, I fucking hate them propping up Miss St and Fresno St so they look like ranked wins for Alabama. The recency bias in the latest poll is absurd, and the complete and total lack of respect to UCF is insane.
I don't care about the integrity of the committee. Put two SEC teams in the playoffs every year just for Sang.
I'm not against it. I'd put Auburn and Bama in this year along with Clemson and Oklahoma. It's funny I use to care a lot more about the SEC bias before Clemson got to the level they are now and started beating all of them.

Georgia is better than Bama, also more deserving based on resume.
And I think Clemson's resume is good enough to still get in with a close loss to Miami.

Maybe but UGa has to be out if they lose to Auburn again. It depends on what else happens for Clemson to lose and still get in. Oklahoma needs to lose. It would help if Wisconsin wins to keep Ohio St out. If it comes down to Clemson against Bama or Ohio St and one of them gets in then I'll be back to raging like I use to.

One thing that has always irked me about Alabama, and the way they schedule is, they never go on the road out of conference. They haven’t had an out of conference road game since 2011; before the Playoff was even being truly considered. They always have a P5 opponent, but it’s always at a neutral site.
2012 - Michigan (Dallas) 2013 - Virginia Tech (Atlanta) 2014 - West Virginia (Atlanta) 2015 - Wisconsin (Dallas) 2016 - USC (Dallas) 2017 - Florida State (Atlanta)
Their next 2? Louisville in Orlando next year and.... Duke. In Atlanta.
Clemson and Auburn? Home and home. Oklahoma and Ohio State? Home and home. Georgia/ND, USC/Texas, etc. Big time programs.
One or two is fine, but eventually, you’re going to have to play true road games against top opposition, and increase strength of schedule.

I was specifically referring to your question if the top 4 all lost...which means UGA would beat Auburn.
Ok. Here is an alternate voice I trust/know. Radius Claus, what are your thoughts on Mr Rucker btw?
No idea if he is correct or not, but Wes Rucker is a fraud. Dude used to basically transcribe George Carlin routines as his columns in The Daily Beacon when we were both students at UT and everyone on campus thought he was the "funny guy."

Their visit to Happy Valley in 2011 was my freshman year, that was a really fun weekend even though we got beat pretty soundly, the Bama fans that made the trip up were awesome.

Let's step away from Vols madness for a minute. The entire coaching world right now is watching Eugene, Oregon, to see what this guy does with the reported extension from UO.
