This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
BBNG was probably my most disappointing set, after thinking about it a few days. But at the same time my most anticipated sets were U2, PTM and Chance. And while the first two met or exceeded my expectations Chance probably fell a little short, with that said I still thought he put on a good show
I have heard of them before but do not know their music well. So I did not know much about their music before the festival.
So basically you were disappointed by a band that you only knew the name of because they didn't play the sort of music you thought they did...? That's on you.
And re: RHCP. I didn't expect to like this set very much, but I was shocked at how much RHCP I apparently knew... I had a blast at this show. And I don't think I know 'Under the Bridge', but I do know 'Otherside' and didn't realize that they didn't play it until now. Either way, that was a greatest hits set and I loved it.
I wish I would've seen more U2. But what I did see was pretty good. I had to go back to the tent for something during their set, so I missed the middle of it, but it was pretty good. Bono talked a lot, and it wasn't quite as exciting as I expected, but I enjoyed it well enough.
5 years at Bonnaroo and there are always bands that fall on both sides of the expectation/performance spectrum. I felt that this year there were more bands that disappointed than any of the other 4 years that I have been on the farm. There were still some really good sets but I definitely found myself with more free time this year.
My worst sets:
The Lemon Twigs - I guess they are just not my thing. Kind of like seeing a comedy set that you just aren't getting and you wonder if the joke is on you.
Rainbow Kitten - They weren't bad, they weren't good. Given some of the hype, I was expecting more.
Tank and the Bangas - I wasn't expecting anything with these guys and only saw them as I was enjoying a Bacon Flight, but I couldn't believe how bad the music was. I had to get up and leave.
Most disappointing has got to be Chance for me as well. He was so great at Roo 2014 but I couldn't get into the style of his performance this year, almost thought he was Kanye's kid out there. HOWEVER this poor performance ended up being a blessing in disguise for me and my croo because we left about halfway through and got a GREAT spot for Cage and raged our faces off!
P.S. Innanet James was definitely the worst show I witnessed but I didn't expect much from him

I saw Chance in Miami the Tuesday after Roo and I'm glad I wasn't crazy for hardly enjoying his set at all. It was the fourth time I've seen him, and it was by far the worst experience. It seems like a lot of you had the same problems with his set that I did. It was overall super choppy, he didn't rap nearly as much as he typically does, his on stage banter was awkward, and the whole thing just did not feel like a cohesive show. It felt like he wasn't ready to play an Arena just yet.

That's more what I meant by the biggest mistake was having Chance be top 3 at every festival despite his crowd size. Lorde has similar discog/number of tours handicaps as he does, but her set just felt so much more polished. Maybe its the big label machine, but it was obvious.

Saw Lorde at Coachella and could not agree more. That felt like a headlining show.
Also I really want to hear why Innanet James was bad. I need details! Did he only perform five songs and the rest was a bad dj set of popular rap music? Did he just yell the entire time? Did he ask which side of the crowd was the livest? I must know
I had a blast at this show. And I don't think I know 'Under the Bridge',
woah woah woah stop the clock.
we can all talk shit about RHCP's current live show, or their more recent studio output, but Under The Bridge is mandatory pop music:
JUST WHEN I DREW SOME BLOOD
and rewatching this video after a long time i understand why my wife is still obsessed with Anthony Kiedis. Was there a better looking frontman in the 90s? Dude is sexy as hell.

He is what he is, a sexy mothafucka that don't give a damn.
For real though the dude still looks good for 54 too, needs to lay off the hair dye though

If I remember correctly he came out a little late (not surprised really). The crowd was more into the DJ ending his set with a mix of popular songs... Oh man did he yell, that voice of his lol
2 sets I was REALLY excited to see but definitely left disappointed.... rainbow kitten surprise and car seat headrest. Maybe it was because I wasnt close at those sets?

I was disappointed with CSH too. Even during killer whales I was underwhelmed.

From my experience distance from the stage plays a huge role on the experience at the Which, I was as close as you could be to the stage without being in the pit and enjoy the hell out of RKS (their singer was a hoot)
On the opposite of this spectrum I was pretty far out for Glass Animals and didn't get the most out of their show even though I love their music

Really, I think proximity is crucial for all stages.
Said it before on another post but was dissatisfied by future islands the most. Second would be U2, still think we could've gotten any other headliner and more people would be into it, just the crowd looked so bummed and not filled like every other headliner I've seen there. For them suposively being one of the top bands live, I don't get it. Maybe way back when they had huge ridiculous set ups. But just got a feeling Bono was too full of himself and his voice that's really just aright, but go figure right, it's Bono. Anyways the only other set I was dissatisfied was chances set. Stayed only for a couple songs and left to get into the pit for Cage. So glad I did. I knew Chance was gonna play his new stuff. Just was hoping since he loves Bonnaroo so much he would play at least more than two songs off Acid Rap and at least a few off of 10 days. Glad he did his thing, but no one wants to hear that many Kanye coves. Well maybe people do. But one is enough for me.

Speak for yourself. Waves and Father Stretch My Hands were only a minute long anyways. But that Life of Pablo melody was my favorite part of the set.

to each his own, rather hear smoke again, acid rain, everybody's something, NaNa or juice by himself

I'm with you on that, I just don't think the 2 1/2 minutes that Waves and Father Stretch My Hands took up was really the issue. I do wish the setlist was more like the one he was doing last fall. I think the concert I saw in Atlanta was "a better show" but obviously Bonnaroo was 10x more fun.
