depends on the member I guess? perhaps it’s just too short notice for those dates, but if it’s someone other than Julian I’d hope they wouldn’t let that fuck over prima. Would be such a bummer.
Oh man, while I like NiN. I truly hope they're gonna make it. The Strokes aren't the band that come here (or in Belgium, last and first time was twenty years ago) a lot so it'd be a total bummer if they canceled urgh.
Just like with MA and Brockhampton, as an organisation you gotta (if it is the case they pull out) as to what's available out there. I don't think there's a lot of stuff out there that could replace them. Remember when Frank Ocean pulled out last minute and they put Jamie xx on there, or when Migos canceled and they got Skepta (at that time, he was still much smaller artist).

If they refuse to even try to replace a headliner that dropped months ago, they definitely won’t replace one who dropped last minute. If The Strokes cancel (I don’t think they will btw, they’ve got enough time to test out of it and they seem to be relatively asymptomatic from Julian’s wording), they probably just rearrange the schedule some (probably Jamie XX takes over for The Strokes, Caribou for Jamie XX, Little Simz for Caribou, some early day act for Simz).

Make sure you do Verifly now if you haven't yet if you're on AA to get covid-travel approval...they don't verify if too close to your flight time. Also avoided paying a fee to get expedited review (free is 60 min wait).

Like, how do you know that.
I just refuse to be convinced that a company with their financial resources couldn’t find a replacement with two months notice. Foo Fighters got replaced at every fest they dropped. BC was able to pull a second NIN nails set out with less than a day notice. If Primavera wanted to book a reasonable MA replacement they would’ve, but it was sold out so what incentive did they really have to do that?

The fest hasn't happened yet. They could still announce surprise acts. Maybe wait until after it's over to judge?

they literally sent out a memo saying there wouldn't be a replacement

Don’t get me wrong, it’s going to be a great festival and the lineup still stomps on most other global lineups. Thrilled to be going, just airing some disappointment at losing a band as legendary as MA with no effort to replace them being made. I’m just saying we have a clear precedent that headliner drops don’t get adequate replacements. There’s no room in the Mordor schedule for an additional headliner, we’ve got what we got. This Quimera persona might be a wild card, but no way it’s someone truly headliner level like Bad Bunny, they’d be insane to not put him in Mordor with how crowd crushes are in the spotlight. If The Strokes drop, they’ll be replaced by some schedule shuffling to get the next biggest names in Mordor. You can be both excited about the fest and call them out for their questionable decision making and communication with artists drops. I personally give them the benefit of the doubt for all undercard drops, but when a headliner drops, you got to add something of similar value to the lineup, you can’t just pocket the saved appearance fees as profit, I’m not cool with that.
I think NiN stepping in for the Foo's and now The Strokes says more about the band willing to step in than anything. It's not just one show, it's been several. Congratulating the festivals for them being able to lock NiN feels misplaced.
And we still don't know who this Chimera artist is, right?
Context clues seem to point to it being a Spanish artist. Would be a big bait and switch to do all this advertising targeted at their Spanish speaking fans and then have it being someone like Arcade Fire.

OP says they "refused to even try", which is something completely different and based out of thin air.
I do think there's a point to be made that this fest has plenty of money and every other fest out there would have replaced them with another headliner with so much time. Stevie Nicks dropped out of ACL last year and they kicked Dababy off the lineup, did they just take the money and run? No, they added Tyler and Duran Duran as headliners. It's pretty much inconceivable that they couldn't book ANYONE, even if not at the same level as Massive Attack, a couple mid-level adds would have been great but I know people would still gripe because it's "not comparable".
One thing in this fest's favor is that they already had way more headliners than they needed, I mean come on, there are still like 14 headliners in this damn thing and we already have way more than we can see in a day anyway.
