What a difference financial independence can do to the quality of a festival.
Shame that Primavera changed weekends, and a billion dollar company tried to crush them and split the talent pool.
As much I make fun of Gov Ball younger lineups - they had no choice and had to do what they did to survive.
Before Pano became a cool niche festival that nobody goes to, I think it was supposed to be a monster Firefly Brother in NY set on destroying Gov Ball.

its almost like one of most musically spoiled city’s in the world didn’t need a festival at all.

Yup. I'd rather things stayed as they were; but everything has turned out alright. Gov Ball is still killing it in terms of attendance. The people who run it became millionaires from the LiveNation sale, and are still running it. The lineups arent what they were, but are still a lot of fun. Panorama has good lineups too, but they are falling on their face year after year. Karma.
Go to whichever festival you guys want. Neither billion dollar company is going to go out of business based off your choices.

Screw that. As someone who lives here I love it. After Gov Ball, festival fatigue sets in for the city and I get to see Frank+Tame+NiN+JayZ+Gorillaz+RHCP+more for like a grand total of 200 bucks.
For comparison the cheapest ticket to Killers GA at MSG this Friday is like $400.

Yeah, I'm with you. My wife and I go to a shitload of concerts every year, and I *still* get excited for festival season. We pulled the GovBall/Pano/Meadows trifecta last year (yay, being cheap-ass mofos with everything but our live music budget) and saw some of the most amazing shows of our lives at each of them.
OK, yes, NYC is spoiled for live music options, but I'll be damned if I'm going to look that particular gift horse in the mouth and turn down the festival experience because of it.
Meanwhile Panorama continues to undersell itself resulting in free tickets and literally so much room to dance - which is super convenient considering they produce better lineups anyways.

It’s Weird Al - at least I hope so. Hearing Amish Paradise at Gov Ball 2015 made me go full Anton Ego in Ratatouille.
Best set of the entire weekend, quite frankly.
I was so mad to miss this but every year that Tent is such an overcrowded mess and Weird Al was so exception. Even though it's now bigger I cross my fingers every year no act I want to see is playing there

I keep hearing about these free tickets, how do you get them? I've tried so many online contests, I just must be unlucky, haha.
messaged the facebook page for the fest, they said we'll be getting the lineup "very soon"! can't wait!
That's "very helpful" of them!
But I'm excited too. With Firefly tomorrow I think next week makes the most sense
Yeah I know that response is vague and terrible, but I peered onto reddit out of morbid curiosity and somebody else got a response seeming to imply it’s happening within a week.
