"Daddy! We want to sub headline behind Beyonce! Please Daddy, wahhhhh wahhhh, it's not fair. No we don't want to go on a nationwide tour that will expose us as talentless musicians that are propped up by studio musicians and embarissingly only half-sell mid sized venues! We only want to play huge festivals in the top 2 markets, but only if we can be the 2nd band listed. Ok thanks Daddy, we'll be over at Taylor's house until April"
I guess I see the root behind your hatred of them.
Band has successful first album. Then goes away to hang with Taylor Swift. Puts out mediocre 2nd album with Paul Thomas Anderson directing all their music videos and gets a prime spot at Coachella.
But idk, sometimes people just have really good managers and agents. Haim is fine!
I think HAIM is terrible, I also think your comments about them are terrible.
Yeah, I don’t really give a shit about them one way or the other at this point, but the fact that dude doesn’t like their music clearly isn’t the issue.
Didn't the recent HAIM album kind of flop? I remember a lot of hype for the album and then...nothing. I thought they'd make a huge jump with their follow-up and it just hasn't happened.
I'm not sure why they're the focus of so much anger, they're pop music with guitars. Most pop music is pushed by labels that way. It's strange to single them out when everyone else is managed and molded the same way.
I stand by my ugh. She makes extremely silly, non-genuine gestures and I can’t take them serious because of it (but that’s just my humble opinion and I don’t mind them subbing or whatever).
I really liked their first EP and album but their last album wasn’t anything special.
Edit: they also have some legitimate songwriting talent. Whether you like those songs or think they deserve to sub Coachella or whatever is one thing, but they’re not the Rebecca Black Band or some shit. I’d sure as hell rather listen to Haim than Portugal the Man’s lousy Please Mr Postman cover

Plenty of other acts deserve equal vitriol. Doesn't make HAIM any less worthy of scorn.

Why does HAIM or any other pop group deserve any kind of vitrol?
I don’t think they’re good. But that has nothing to do with rich daddies. The strokes Julian Casablancas’s dad bought their contract. Same with grizzly bear I believe. And of course Lana del Rey’s oil tycoon daddy who bought hers.

It's like saying George Clooney deserves nothing because his mother was a famous actress. Just dumb.

Mark Ronson and DIIV also come to mind as artists whose wealthy background and connections afforded them the opportunity to spend all of their time making music and also helped them achieve celebrity status. It's fairly common, I'm sure. It's not just HAIM. If you're going to be a musician, it helps to have your needs met already.

I guess I've always kind of empathized, there. I make weird faces when I play drums - it started when I was a struggling beginner and was doing it because of the effort I was putting into making my limbs all do different things at the same time, and by the time I didn't *need* to do it any more, it was just a habit.
