i feel awful for saying this because it just sounds SO typical, but i gotta go with mellon collie for my fave smashing pumpkins album. sorry everyone
I feel like, for me, Mellon Collie had the tunes on it to be one great Smashing Pumpkins album...but they stretched it into a double, and there wasn't enough there to support that as a whole.

But that's, just, like, my opinion, man.
Yup 100% this. I am old enough to remember guitar magazines where Billy was so adamant that he created "The Wall for the 90s." When really all he did was toss in a bunch of filler to stretch a handful of good tracks into a double album.

I never understood the Smashing Pumpkins either, but across all their albums they definitely have a half dozen memorable tracks. That's the least you can hope for as a rock band.
Corgan, Iha and Chamberlain are all in the studio right now I believe. It's a shame D'arcy wasn't invited but Corgan and Iha are an insane gutiarist combo with crazy chemistry.
I'd be surprised if they didn't headline Riot Fest and Shaky Knees next year.
The D'Arcy thing is weird. She's on good terms with all of them now but she wasn't invited back, makes me think there's more to it than we know. Hopefully they grab Melissa to come back. If the set consisted of material from Gish through Machina (Stand Inside Your Love and Everlasting Gaze are good songs, fight me) I'm sure it'd go over really well.
I think I read somewhere that D'Arcy got a whole lot of legal issues going on, and it was too much of a liability to the band.
I'll be real, I owned the Batman Forever Soundtrack. It's what introduced to me to The Flaming Lips, Massive Attack, Nick Cave and Sunny Day Real Estate back when I was in middle school.
Fuck, what was the last big popular blockbuster that featured these type of names on the soundtrack?
It wasn't really a blockbuster, but I thought Repo Men (2010) had a solid variety

I think the Batman Forever soundtrack was probably the last soundtrack this legit. Popular music has taken a nosedive the last couple decades if you weren't paying attention. Also, 90's music is incredible in general.

I sitll don't understand why people care so much about this "reunion". Iha and D'arcy basically just brought a certain look to the band (though Iha contributed to a few songs). The combo of Billy and Jimmy has been available to see for the past decade and played some awesome sets. If they would just book it Pumpkins playing only from the 91-00 era, that would be the sell.
