I mean Mellon Collie was in a different league than what their 90's radio rock counterparts were putting out.
DOO DOO DOO DO DO DO DOO
Even Clearchannel butt-rock stations saved us from Hanson. They were more reserved for the top 40 stations and MTV (coincidentally, this is also when MTV started sucking).

That's clearly a Third Eye Blind reference, not an MmmBop reference

I feel like if you listen to Adore/Machina without context it might be better. But it had come out when Grunge/Alternative had pretty much died, and Manson started being the most popular thing. So it just came off like Billy was mimicking whatever was popular to stay relevant and both albums had an air of desperation surrounding it. Also it sucked.

Ah, you're right. All the bullshit pop-rock just runs together at this point.

Unfortunately for us, Hanson has been regrouped and rebranded as HAIM.
2010 Pumpkins at Forecastle was solid. Billy kinda shredded that night. Chamberlin pounded as always. Finished out the fest. Loud that night. Might have been the first time for the fest at the current location.

Manson had more of an industrial electronic sound, and Adore is far from that. But yeah, I'm sure they did change their sound on Adore to capitulate to the hard-rock electronic trends (i.e. Stabbing Westward) of the late 90's to some degree.

stray observations on the past two pages:
-Mellon Collie is bloated, as every double album ever recorded is*, but it's still an extremely good and generation defining album. It produced some of the best singles in the 90s, namely "Tonight, Tonight", "Zero", "Thirty-Three", and "1979". And yes "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" is an anthem, even though I never really liked the song (even as a teenager the "despite all my rage" line felt a little on the nose to me).
-"Kiss From A Rose" is one of the best songs every written.
* - seriously does a double album exist that couldn't have some songs trimmed from it?
EDIT: also i have no interest in a smashing pumpkins "reunion". i'd be just as interested in seeing the billy corgan and friends version of the pumpkins lineup, which means a mild overall interest.

I still can't help but laugh every time I see this.
He’s 90s Jack White.
He was on JoeRogan's podcast talking about this picture. It's quite an interesting discussion. He said he actually was having fun and ya know, someone snapped a picture at the right time to catch that emotion. He didn't seem to upset over becoming a meme.
