Here’s what I am hoping for in the second half of the lineup announcements. I am listing by general interest areas because I am open to Newport expanding my own choice set (a few examples given for each; long shots listed at the end of each list)
1) 2000s Indie/Folk Pedro the Lion, Jenny Lewis, Conor Oberst, Guster, Damien Rice, Beirut, The Frames, the Shins, Sufjan Stevens, Andrew Bird, Kings of Convenience, Belle and Sebastian, Bright Eyes
2) Hip Bluegrass Trampled by Turtles, Old Crow Medicine Show, Dave Rawlings Machine, Nickel Creek, Mumford and Sons, Del McCoury Band w/ Preservation Hall Jazz Band
3) Punk Goes Folk Gogol Bordello, Flogging Molly, Against Me!, Cursive, Kevin Devine, Chuck Ragan, Good Old War, City and Colour, Gaslight Anthem/Brian Fallon
4) Modern Indie Folk Okkervil River, Bon Iver, Bombay Bicycle Club, Florence and the Machine, Grizzly Bear, War on Drugs, Kurt Vile, Little May, Lord Huron, Typhoon, Local Natives, S Carey, Volcano Choir
5) Poppy Folk Kasey Musgraves, Kishi Bashi, Dawes, Friends and Family, Freedom Fry, Head and the Heart, the Hunts, Magic Giant (ugh, I have a soft spot for them even though they are almost insulting)
6) Garage Folk Rock Youth Lagoon, Deer Tick, Hop Along, J Roddy Walston, Middle Kids, Saintseneca, Wolf Parade, the Moldy Peaches, Neutral Milk Hotel
This is an interesting list.
I'd add Murder By Death to the Punk Goes Folk category (I guess). Would love to see them at the Fort.
Not a surprise in the least, but I'm happy all the same.
We started our continuous run in 2014 and they were my first "New Favorite Newport Band" so they'll always have a special place in my heart.
They announced a September show out here in Portland last week and by the time I looked again it sold out, so I'm happy I won't miss them this year. Wonder if they'll do the "nudes" set at Newport?

Murder By Death would be a great booking! Time to dive back into that discography today... Been a couple years.

Interesting picks! There are few on here I'd love to see.
Jenny Lewis is playing Mt. Jam this year and I would love to see her on the Fort. Bright Eyes, Old Crow!, Brian Fallon and City and Colour.
I feel like we could add Jamestown Revival and Anderson East to the Modern Indie Folk list. (mostly just because I'm a huge fan - but they could fit)

They could make the whole festival "2000s Indie Folk" and I'd just bliss out on the High School/College Nostalgia all weekend. I'd love to see Jenny Lewis and Conor Oberst back, I was shocked Conor Oberst wasn't there last year.
I'd add AJJ to the Punk Goes Folk list, and I'd love to see them. Does Good Old War still exist? I loved their first album but my sister put me onto them and told me they broke up.
All in all, I like your breakdown of sub-genres, and I'm certain several of these people will be around.

Good Old War put out an album this year, so I assume they do (and are primed for touring).
Really hoping some of those end up on the lineup. Obviously, several are long shots and I do not have any expectations (e.g., Neutral Milk Hotel), but others I will be truly disappointed if they don’t get added (and surprised none were in the first half of announcements): Okkervil River (new album), The War on Drugs (tour lines up perfectly), Trampled by Turtles (new album), Old Crow (new album, but looks like they are out), Typhoon (new album), Saintseneca (new music like always, really can’t believe they have not yet played Newport), Lord Huron (new album, tour lines up), and S Carey (new album).
Spirit family reunion-twain Traveller-passenger, joke obviously Langhorne-missing so let’s get it today Courtney barnett Sturgill Simpson Brandi carlile
Ironically, Traveller just announced their debut album. Single from it exists on the interwebz.

Yes they still exist, saw them open for Josh Ritter in the fall.

This is wonderful news for me! I only ever saw them open for Guster ages ago, and when I heard they went on hiatus I just stopped checking in.
Just tried throwing the artists we have so far into a clashfinder. The alphabetical billing definitely made it a little tougher, but let me know thoughts and I might make some edits and try fitting in some other names

traveller has returned. i will admit that i was not aware of them when they hit nff in 2015 but they announced today a new album, a single and a farewell tour.
Didn't know Drive Driver Truckers music well when they were announced last year. Got their album 'American Band' based off some comments I saw here. Boy, that album perfectly captures our time. Schedule conflicts on the day stopped me seeing them. I don't often have regrets about missing a set but that was one. They released the Newport set on vinyl and I got it in the mail a few weeks back. Anyone else wish the had a time machine so they could go back to Friday morning when the festivals over and do the whole thing again but at different stages.
I just noticed that CAAMP is touring with Rainbow Kitten Surprise this spring/early summer. However, RKS is playing Forecastle and Sloss the week before Newport and Osheaga and Lolla the week after. If the Osheaga date is before the the Lolla date (don’t know what day they are playing Lolla yet), then any logical tour route would put RKS right through Newport at the time of NFF.
I think it would be a pretty great and unique (in terms of standing out from all of the other acts so far announced) booking for Newport if they grabbed RKS.

I think that looks pretty solid! The only ones I would potentially move would be Gary Clark to the Fort Stage and Nicole Atkins to the Quad, but it wouldn't be a shock to see them on the schedule as your presented them.
Just confirmed from Passengers FB that this show will be solo (no band)
Also looks like the only U.S. summer gig as well.
Someone asked earlier why I was disappointed in the lack of bands on the lineup when the singer-songwriters oftentimes have dynamic backing bands.
Among a myriad of many reasons (some of them I will admit to being psychological, such as just a general personal interest in bands that share songwriting duties, and knowing that whenever you see them you are seeing the same set of people who were in the studio together as opposed to a potential different backing band for each tour), this is also one of my concerns. Passenger with a backing band would be, by far, my favorite artist on this lineup. I would be out of my lawn chair, dancing around to his poppy folk music. Passenger solo, while still very enjoyable, is less entertaining. I will singalong regardless, but I don’t foresee myself clamoring for a spot on a nice patch of dirt so that I can dance without interference or a spot close to the stage.
I will be really disappointed if Brandi Carlile shows up without a band as well.

Another up-and-coming soul band I would like to see added in the same vein as Curtis Harding is Black Pumas. Check out the song below, they are playing Pickathon too.
