where do people recommend I start with wood bros? Have heard the name for years and really like “luckiest man” but sadly I’m otherwise out of the loop. Tips plz!
Just go in order. Use the album that has Luckiest Man first.
From the beginning to now they've evolved their sound. When they first started playing it was just the two brothers doing acoustic stuff. Since then they've added another member or two on tour and have a bit more energy/stage show.
Just go in order. Luckiest Man is awesome. Postcards from Hell is one of my favorites. They are underrated as songwriters. I believe they have live albums out, too.
I know we keep coming back to overall opinion of the lineup. One way I evaluate the lineup is by asking the following question: “is this the best folk-oriented lineup in the country/world?” Most years, it’s a resounding yes. And in some years, it’s one of the best festival lineups overall (not just folk-oriented).
This year it’s going to be tough to convince me.
Even this Outlaw Music Tour put on by Willie and Sturgill may be a more exciting day of music than any of the days of NFF (or at least, very comparable).
That’s not to say I think the lineup is bad. Far from it. Just that I have very high expectations (that are usually delivered on, but it’s okay if there’s a year where they are not met).
(Posted today because more dates were added to the Outlaw tour which brought it to my attention. Damn... that Charlotte date).

Pickathon is the one giving Newport a run for its money this year for my taste. Love the vibe they curate, plus the venue looks sweet. Definitely gonna have to make my way out there one of these years

Van Morrison alone makes some of those lineups killer.

Missed the dates with Van. Wow.
Charlotte- Willie Nelson, Sturgill, Elvis Costello, Brandi Carlile, Old Crow
Pittsburgh- Willie, Van Morrison, Sturgill, Brandi
And that NY date with Neil Young could turn out excellent as well.
For me, it's the unique sets. And we've got at least two killer ones this year so far. Probably plenty of more coming.
Is Hamilton and Rostam the second?
Oh, see I wasn't even including that. That act plus Traveller are awesome because they're unique bookings of established acts.
I was more talking about the "A Change is Gonna Come" and Glorietta....two acts on the lineup that nobody could have really seen coming and that will likely deliver some kickass sets.
Edit: For some reason I thought Traveller were added. Maybe mixing up the news of their album/tour. I expected them to be on the lineup anyway so we'll see.

Glorietta would fall in the same category as Hamilton and Rostam, IMO. They’re an actual band producing a debut album due out this summer. Once there are more announcements around the album release, I wouldn’t doubt that they will be doing an appropriate tour to accompany the album.
Im still damn excited to see them. I imagine a pretty great set (and am just as much looking forward to the album).

I'm wondering if the Glorietta record is going to come out that Friday. MLV posted that the Newport set would be its premiere

Yeah Glorietta will likely have more shows and dates but still exciting to me because I was totally unaware of this even being a project. So definitely not something I was predicting and definitely feels special.
I’m excited about glorietta too, so not trying to be a Debbie downer, but it wasn’t a secret. Pickathon has announced them in January along with a write up.

I only learned about that after this Newport announcement
My main point is....it wasn't an obvious/predictable get when we were discussing who could be on the lineup this year. We all thought Vasquez would be there in some fashion but I was unaware of another side project he was involved in. It's definitely not the same "eh another repeat" act, I guess.
I was trying to make a mock clashfinder but it wasnt working out for me. However, i compiled this mock of how i think things will pan out. Let me know what you guys think!

This would be pretty freakin loaded. I'd like it though. I can't imagine Lukas Nelson on the Harbor, that band gets pretty loud. Same with Antibalas.
Glorietta just screams Main Stage early to me, but that's just IMO.

I saw Dan Auerbach on Saturday. Back in his hometown to a packed crowd. It was a stupendous show! Robert Findley was incredible as was the entire band. I would love to see them again.

Old Crow plays Providence (The Strand) on the 20th, iirc. I'd assume they're out.
Ya'll are crazy. This lineup kicks ass. Remember best case scenario you can see less than half of the announced names. This is going to be conflict city.
Also the Change set if a perfect Sunday closer. You know if it is the Sunday closer it will be like 65 revisited or the Mavis set with an insane number of guests. I can't think of anything better (other than a law change that allows for a 3 hour NY & POTR set)

Who is in Langhorne’s Lost at Last band? Is this the same as the Law, or are these new players?
A search for Lost at Last brings up Jon Stickley (since he has an album with that title), which would be absolutely awesome if he was in the band, but I don’t recognize him in the picture.

I think Twain is in the band too. Not sure who else.

I was also wondering about this. Not sure who is in it but i'm interested. Always enjoyed his sets.
