This would be a good spot for Phosphorescent to pop up if he's not gonna get his own set. Also would love to see William Tyler and/or Steve Gunn finally make their way to Newport for this

Okay, so if this is a new group/act/unique thing there's nothing specific to look up and listen to, right? Do you guys recommend just checking into each of the names individually on there? I know and like a few of them.

That's probably the best thing you can do.
Especially check out the Spacebomb stuff. If they're going to be the band for the whole set then that's probably the sound that'll dominate things.
Speaking of which, I guess the house band put out an album last month!
If they were to do more Grandma's Hands-type sets in the future, who would you guys want to see paid tribute to? The first pick that comes to mind for me is Gram Parsons.

This is better than I was hoping for.
That’s awesome, you totally called it.
I think you all convinced me that this is this year’s Grandma’s Hands Band playing Parsons and the Byrds (and maybe other similar artists).
Searching around the internet for info led me to this conclusion: I fully expect to see Bedouine and Hiss Golden Messenger pop up as special guests.

I'm hoping they get Natalie Prass in on the mix too, in this and with her own set. Her first album was released on Spacebomb and she sang in Grandma's Hands Band. Plus her new singles are fucking great
This is probably my favorite announcement so far. I feel like this festival continues to perfectly track where my folk tastes have gone year by year, and this set is the perfect example of that for 2018.

I am thinking it's going to be more of the Byrds in general, since Parsons wasn't a member of the band until Sweetheart of the Rodeo. I could be wrong, but I don't anticipate any Gram Parson solo songs.

I think it’s too hard to say at this point because we have the name of the revue, which takes itself from a lyric of a Byrds’ song pre-Gram.
But then they also bill it as a “Cosmic American Revue” which was a term coined by Gram to refer to his music (or so my sleuthing has turned up).
I am guessing that we are just going to get a set of covers from artists that could indeed fall in that category: Gram, Byrds, Flyig Burrito Brothers, etc. They were all in each other’s bands anyways.
The new LA Salami album is awesome. Reminds me of Conor Oberst w/ Dawes as a backing band on some songs.
I just noticed the Forecastle daily lineup and Kurt is Friday and Courtney is Sunday. Makes me feel a little bit better about no Kurt at Newport so far (fingers are still crossed for Kurt though). [they did the same with I’m With Her and Punch Brothers!]

Hate the news? Hate seeing kids lives destroyed by war? Love music? Brandi Carlile's album to benefit War Child is nice little way to help. It's worth it just to hear Dolly Parton singing The Story (video below) reminding you what a legendary voice she has. Kris Kristofferson's cover of Turpintine is reminesent of Johnny Cash singing Hurt. Its cool that so many Newport alum helped out on it.
The album opens with Shovels & Rope performing "Late Morning Lullaby", followed by Dolly Parton's version of "The Story". Kris Kristofferson's rendition of "Turpentine" features Chris Stapleton on guitar. The album continues with "My Song" by Old Crow Medicine Show, Jim James' "Wasted", and The Avett Brothers performing "Have You Ever". Anderson East's cover of "Josephine" features backing vocals by Miranda Lambert. The next tracks are "Losing Heart" by The Secret Sisters, the Indigo Girls performing "Cannonball", and "Until I Die" by Torres. Following are "Downpour", performed by Margo Price, "Shadow on the Wall", and "Again Today" by Pearl Jam. The album closes with "Hiding My Heart".
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
The crossover with Xponential is really out of hand...
I hear you, but would have been sad if Newport didn’t get Bermuda Triangle when they were so close. I’m sure they are the same weekend strategically for both festivals, so crossover is inevitable.

Anyone else thinking that the Saturday headliner is going to be a huge name? In my opinion, Saturday's lineup is a dud so far. However, I think I just need to listen to some of these bands!

I don't think the Saturday lineup is a dud, but I am thinking the headliner will be a pretty big name too
