Any idea when the rolling lineup will end/when the bigger names are coming?
I’m very close to selling my ticket honestly
Wow please sell your ticket. I'm sure there are many others who would be happy to take that out of your hands.
When has Jay ever disappointed? I don't get all of this lineup hate.
Katy, at least, has been debating between going to this and Panorama. It's not so much she hates the lineup as she seems to be leaning more towards the other fest.
But yea, overall I've learned that even when I think a lineup looks so-so midway through I end up being in love with it by the end. I'm already sold on this year so any other huge announcements are just icing on the cake for me.

I'm so torn between them honestly. I'm seeing many of the artists at Newport at Forecastle, which also is adding to the predicament. No one can deny the Newport magic, but I don't understand the backlash people get for even having the slightest thing to say about it that isn't gushing about it.
I get Katie. Every "add" is not a "good add;" there are other fine festivals out there that are great places for musicians and audiences; and we need to share tastes and suggestions rather than get defensive.
Two thoughts -- I kept hearing this was the year so many people are clamoring to play Newport because they needed a familiar outlet to help us through the tenure of the times. For whatever reason, many are finding their outlets elsewhere.
Be careful of high expectations; but also be careful that NFF doesn't become a boutique festival geared for a small but devoted "plugged in audience " -- enough people to sell out, but not sustain itself over the coming decades. The good news is we really don't know what we have until the sun sets (oh, for at least one night show at the Fort).

This is easily the best lineup since 15’ (the Phosphorescent year) The best part of Newport isn’t the lineup anyway. It’s the potential for surprise and magic. And this year is off the charts. I mean we have a Mathhew Vazquez supergroup

I couldn't agree more, this lineup is shaping up to be much stronger than the past two years. I still believe we have many heavy hitters left, especially for Saturday. I feel some of ya'll need a reminder that "In Jay, We Trust."
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
would lucius be on the fort during the day? i can't really picture them doing a set in the quad but i could be totally wrong
Really? They seems like a perfect Quad act.
i've really only gotten into them recently since seeing them with waters in '15. i would imagine they'd have at least a few guests with them so i always picture the fort. but something more intimate especially considering how stripped down nudes is would be really awesome. i would stick it out there rather than rush over to the fort for the country headliners if that's the case

Newport's got a particularly tricky tightrope to walk to avoid falling into the "boutique" category thanks to the history, nature of being a non-profit with a specific mission, and the "folk" right there in the title. There are only so many "huge names" or "big surprises" that can come out of a genre like that.
Credit to Jay and Co. for being flexible and forward thinking in their definition of "folk." Prog acts like Roger Waters and the Ouroboros version of Ray LaMontagne, hard rockers like Reignwolf and Benjamin Booker, Rappers like (love him or hate him) Raury...I wouldn't describe any of these as "folk" bands in a normal discussion, but all of them have fit just fine in the context of the fest.
The snippets of Speak Out in the podcast sounded great. Seems like they did a great job mixing it. Hearing Zach Williams' "I Am a Patriot" gave me chills.
