As the elder statesman here, time for me to check in on this one. I well remember when Cheech and Chong were The Act to see. I, for one, have never been able to sit through one of their movies. Still, it's a sign Jay hasn't lost a beat. I do agree that their humor is more for stoners who are stoned than about being stoned, but how can you not take a look? Maybe listen to Kruangbin first with their reverb on 11 every song waiting for the San Francisco sound to have a resurgence. Anyway, brilliant addition, I think. But Jay is not done.
As I was reading the predictions of the usual suspects people expect to still be announced, I predicted yesterday "there will be a surprise aha moment thrown in there." I have another prediction: Cheech and Chong is not that surprise moment. They are an oldies novelty act, not a headliner; Flight of the Conchords was more recent, and more musical. Now, it's possible Cheech and Chong bring along some friends. I've been dying to see Bill Murray live (did see Belushi and Akyroyd at NYU in the late 70's, interrupting a self-indulgent Hunter Thompson diatribe as they chased each other around the auditorium with a buzz saw), but it would be so much cooler to turn to my left and have Bill Murray stealing my blanket telling me to go away.
By the way -- isn't it so Cheech and Chong that they have the wrong date on their website and write "Newport, R.I, not NFF.
So I'm from that generation that was enthralled to see Roger Waters (left field!) and Patti Smith (again), and wouldn't be surprised if there's another "Really? Didn't See that Coming" act -- The B52's anyone? Barenaked Ladies? The Dixie Chicks?
And finally, re headliners. Love a surprise. I think Jon Batiste and The Dapkings close and will bring surprises (ala Buddy Guy, Keith Richards, Stephen Colbert...but would be very happy with Brittany Howard sitting in for Sharon, or Kam Franklin, whom I love from afar, from the Suffers). I don't get the excitement about Lord Huron playing 3 out of 6 years. But think Deer Tick would make a great closer -- and a likely one -- on Saturday. So many people lurking on the east coast that weekend: Darius Rucker, Lady Antebellum, John Fogerty, Arlo (I think his stories are funnier that C&C).
FJM -- sorry, butI think he brings so much controversy among fans who like, love, could care less, or loathe, that I'd be surprised to see him headline. . But that's my point. I expect to be surprised.
A cool unexpected surprise for me would be Erykah Badu.

The Dixie Chicks would be great. It's disgusting what those girls had to go through. History proved them right. Now even right wing candidates go on about what a mistake it was. I don't see many apologizing to them though. They got death threats and bycotts for exercising free speech. Nationalism can sure go out of control sometimes. What happened to them made many afraid to speak out.
In regards to the theory on Museum acts being mixed in, I don't see it. If I look at the announcements, it is really hard to find acts that have been announced that could reasonable play the museum stage. And... after seeing Wilco headline last year, I could totally see Nels Cline on his own on a stage. Thinking this is likely to be something collaborative as well.

Friday: Tuck & Patti Sidi Toure?
Saturday: No one?
Sunday: Jen Cloher, maybe?
I think it will be very collaborative as well. He played on the acoustic Lucius album. I'm thinking he will be on the Harbor stage

You’re right about Saturday. Maybe Daniel Norgren? And I’d add Charlie Parr and Twain as possibilities for Sunday.
But it’s possible that we haven’t had any Museum Stage announcements yet and this week is starting them. Potentially before the last hurrah. This announcement sort of reminds me of when Bob Dylans guitar was an act on the Museum Stage. And I love Nels as much as the rest of you, but Chris Funk is also a talented musician and his sets are confined to the Museum Stage.
If not, then Nels and Berklee as the last two non-headlining sets announced for Sunday?

If all of the announcements have been non-museum, then I am leaning towards thinking no Berklee on Sunday. But who knows?
As much as I hate livenation and ticketdisaster they're having that bad seat $20 seat sale on the 30th. I used it last year to see Tom Petty a few months before he passed.

Wait- how did I not know about this. Do you know how to access it or get more info on details and if there is a way to preview the shows that will be included prior to it happening?

I got an email from them about it today listing the bands. It depends where you live but includes a big number of concerts. I'll post the links later. It isn't just on the 30th. Sale just starts that day. They ain't the best seats but hey, you can go to a few at that price. Plus for a little more you can sometimes upgrade to a better seat for 10 or 15 more.

Some solid artists on the list too.
Would love to pick up $20 tix for Beck, Dead & Co, Gov't Mule/Avetts, Lauryn Hill, and a couple of the other ones

Not criticizing the lineup, but at this point, I'm really hoping the last few announcement blow me away. I love Nathaniel Rateliff & TNS, and I know they have a new album, but I would be disappointed if they give them a time slot this year.

Hoping he's a Friday announcement, was thinking the remaining Saturday and Sunday announcements would be bigger than Shakey. But I do like his stuff and am looking forward to his new album
