I'm gonna try to whip up a mock based on that 2012 schedule with the fleshed out Museum stage lineup
It'd definitely open up a lot of potential and will probably result in the worst conflicts of my personal Newport history if that's what they're doing.
I was an early supporter of the museum stage theory, and as much as I want to believe it, I can’t imagine Newport isn’t in its finale week(s) of lineup announcements. You don’t get Shakey Graves, Glen Hansard, Ben Harper, Toots, and St Vincent in a row only for Newport to slow down and announce 15ish more acts to flesh the lineup (they can’t all be as big as the last 5 announcements). If anything, we have one or two acts already announced that are not playing traditional main stage sets (Nels on Sunday. Not sure who on Friday; maybe Tuck and Patti?) that are going to result in 19-20 acts booked and announced per day as opposed to the 18 booked per day last year.
Yeah after looking at it I think you're probably right. If they were doing a full museum stage most of the additions would be smaller names for that or the Harbor, which would be odd at this point. Honestly I'm just hoping they made room for Father John Misty or someone similar on Saturday. It feels like that day's still missing a solid pre-HL, although it could be Courtney or Cheech & Chong
This is the kinda excitement we’ve been missing in this thread, this year.
St. Vincent getting people excited!
Buckle up! We’re in the home stretch!
Can you imagine the response if Newport didn’t already prep us for it by booking Tuck and Patti? Like if we were at this stage of the lineup announcements and St Vincent came completely from left field.
so if you had to say right now, who was playing the mainstage last on saturday and sunday (let's call them, i dunno, headliners), who would you pick? im hoping we will know the answers in just a few short days...
i'll throw out sat - deer tick and friends sun - arcade fire

Sat - Florence/Arcade Fire/Bon Iver Sun - BRUUUUUUUCE (sticking with this one for the hell of it. Odds are probably pretty slim)

Loving this lineup, planning to come down from Saint John, NB, Canada.
Looking for TWO 3-day passes to Newport Folk Festival. Anyone help me out on how to find face value tickets and/or any other tips on travel, accommodations, etc.

My best guess:
One of the following - Bon Iver, The National, Florence, Mumford and Sons, Arcade Fire
And then a throwback like Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Aretha Franklin, John Fogerty.
Which of the hipper acts, I have no idea. I keep going back and forth. For instance, I am wondering if the lack of bluegrass in the lineup is because Newport went big on their bluegrass booking by getting Mumford.

Anyone have a good, up-to-date spotify playlist for this fest? Does NFF have an official one?
I could make one myself but usually I end up adding full albums so some of the acts get more play than others.
I've been keeping one on Apple Music, just flipped it to Spotify. Tried to do 6+ songs for each artist. Couldn't for some like Bermuda Triangle, didn't bother for others like Tuck & Patti, but feel free to let me know if there are essential tracks missing for anyone.
For Change Is Gonna Come and Beneath the Sacred Mountain I just put some songs that might fit the vibe/are relevant

Good job cath for being the only person to have St. Vincent on their Bingo card!
Also, when Deer Tick played Toronto a few months ago, a friend of mine asked Dennis if they were playing the fest this year and he *apparently* said "We're not playing there again until we headline". Take that however you want.

If that was a few months ago, and he said that, then they’re likely not playing this year i assume.

Just looked at Misty's recent setlists, and if we do end up with him I will be very excited.
However, he's playing completely different sets every night and gosh darn a few of them really miss almost all of the best stuff. After seeing it last fall I would be incredibly disappointed if he doesn't bring out Magic Mountain for most shows going forward. Hearing that song live literally flipped my opinion of the album.

He's a great artist to catch off album cycle because you get a good mix of everything, especially if he's changing it up show to show. But you also run the risk of missing out on 'album cuts' like that, which sucks because I agree about that moment in his shows last year.
I missed out on him touring Fear Fun and have always wanted to hear "Misty's Nightmares" live but haven't yet. Would love to see that enter the re-rotation at some point.
That Fortress Fest setlist is pretty damn great though. Hopefully I'll see him somewhere this summer.
I have to go with Deer Tick on Friday or Saturday. Timing just seems right, even if they sub-HL.
Saturday, then, more likely something out of left field. I won't second guess my crazy ideas earlier so repeating what I've listed already -- B52's or Barenaked Ladies or Dixie Chicks.
Sunday -- I still think its Change is Gonna Come with guests. Leon Bridges and Gary Clark? Keith Richards? Aretha?
WILDCARDS: Wouldn't shock me -- Eddie or Fogerty or (I hope not) Dawes. I am surprised not to see Darius Rucker or Lady Antebellum on any lists. They are in the area.
WHO I WANT: OK, more crazy talk: Of Monsters and Men

I think I counted 13 hits on my bingo card! That's the most I've ever had. So excited for St. Vincent!
Catching up on all the posts from today. I think if Deer Tick were to headline it would be Saturday, since that's the more indie-folk-rocky day. Friday is stacked already with 3 (or 4) "headline" calibre acts in Isbell, Sturgill, Price, and Now St Vincent.
I like the prospect of a legacy act closing out Sunday, and Aretha would be mind blowing! Fogerty also seems more and more possible.
I also saw someone suggest Mumford possibly closing out Saturday which would be FANTASTIC because then I'd be able to leave after the Quad finale and go to DT&F that night.
What’s the origin of Deer Tick rumors? Why are many so confident that they’re playing? Is it just because it’s been a while and they have new music?
No way we get another headliner or even sub on Friday. I would argue that we have 4 bigger acts booked for Friday than the biggest act on Saturday (Ben Harper, Isbell, Simpson, and St. Vincent). I’d say Barnett, probably the biggest booking on Saturday, is most comparable to Price or Lucius.
For this reason I also suspect a big headliner on Saturday. I’m leaning towards Mumford, Florence, or Arcade Fire. Most likely AF. This may be why there’s such a drop off in popularity/demand/quality (unless we still do get a headliner and a sub, such as FJM).
Sunday I think will either be Bon Iver or legacy act. Nothing too big.

Just realized that Lord Huron played Boston last night. Anyone go and chat the band up? Did they say anything about Newport? I would think if they’re going to be announced for NFF, this is what the organizers may have been waiting for. Although, I have no clue where they fit in on the schedule anymore.
Edit: Nevermind. I see that they are back in Boston on August 5. Has that tour date been announced for a while now? I think that allows us to officially rule them out (especially with the schedule almost full)
