Fleetwood Mac are notoriously money hungry. Can't see them playing as a band, but any of Christine, Stevie, or Lindsey could potentially happen at some point down the line
Lindsey is out of the band for its farewell tour, replaced by both Neil Finn of Split Enz and Crowded House fame and Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Big weekend for folk releases. Any opinions on the new albums?
I am loving this Trampled by Turtles album. Adds to my sadness that they were not booked this year. Although, looking at their tour dates, it’s possible that they’re one of the holdout announcements because they play Boston next week (I could see them being booked for Saturday in the seemingly missing sub headliner spot; but that’s optimistic that we are even missing a sub headliner at this point).
Lake Street Dive album is alright. It’s a bit overproduced for my tastes; but I thought their old stuff was underproduced.
I love the new Shakes Graves album. I am officially excited for his set.
Still need to listen through the new Leon Bridges. First few songs I checked out were good.
On the outskirts of folk (but artists that have been mentioned here), I’m a big fan of Middle Kids’ new album (thanks to whoever introduced them to me in this thread) and enjoyed the new Florence single.

Reeeeeallly not liking the new Shakey Graves album. I find it too... something. Like weird for the sake of being weird or something.
I have really been enjoying the Joshua Hedley record. Lord Huron's new one is fantastic, love the new direction. And John Prine's is way better than it should be. Holy heck.

Agreed about Shakey’s new album. I liked his stuff wothoit the drums and pop sound. Shakey, a guitar and that suitcase drum is all i need.
While I do miss suitcase Shakey, as soon as I was able to listen to the album without any expectations, I was able to really enjoy it. I completely understand it’s not for everyone. And it’s nothing groundbreaking (just your typical folk-tinged indie rock). I’ve had the songs “My Neighbor” and “Mansion Door” on repeat, and will probably be adding “Aibohphobia” to the repeat listen list shortly (my issue is I rarely get beyond “Mansion Door”).
I’m happy Shakey may be filling the indie folk void (that I perceived) in the lineup this year.
Lake Street Dive works as a Saturday headliner (doubt Rachel would do two shows with two different performers on Friday), but I suspect it would stir the usual controversy. Pre-headliner, perhaps? I like their new album; it adds some edge to a bit of pop jazz that has been seeping into their performances. You don't always know what you'll get. Fell in love with their "story" and then their stripped down style at NFF in the Quad. Later that summer --or was it the next? -- at a free concert in Central Park, they exhibited a rocking raw edge with the keyboards that blew me away. Then as headliners last year at the Clearwater Hudson River Revival, they seemed a bit listless. But I like the album and I know they like NFF. Would it be overkill if Bridget Kearney brought her side project?

ALSO -- Anone hear even a peep about the fest being permitted to remain open an additional hour? We've thrown out all these possibilities for having more acts, but can't quite figure out what Jay is up to.

The NFF site still says “Sundown” so doubtful.
Yep. And would impact the after shows. (I actually edited out that comment as you were responding)
You would think that its shouldn’t be be that hard to negotiate another hour, but it’s probably harder than I know.
Especially for a festival that allows local hotels to charge $500+ per night.
But I would think any such discussion or negotiations would be public. They would have likely had to come up through some city hall meeting and we’d have known by now.

Newport hotel prices are pretty bad to begin with for much of the summer
Were any of you unable to snag a copy of the NFF vinyl from RSD that wanted one? I popped into a record store yesterday on a whim and managed to find one left so I've got an extra if anyone really needs one.

"Sundown" is a little after 8 PM in late July, and the festival typically lets out at 7:30... maybe we get an extra 30 minutes? That could easily up the daily acts to 20 if every day starts closer to 11.

They used the term “sundown” last year. It’ll likely be the same

They need to have enough time before it gets dark to get the people riding bicycles out of the fort. It would be way too dangerous to have that many people riding bikes in the pitch black.

As much as I want to believe we’re still 2–5 acts short on the lineup, it’s most likely we are just a headliner shy of being complete (Saturday; the only day with fewer than 18 announced acts). The “More Acts To Be Announced” is either accidental until we get that last headliner or refers to impending Museum Stage announcements (I know there was talk that they were quick to remove it last year before Museum Stage acts; but consistency in how they announce the lineup is not a strength of NFF).
I was an original supporter of the idea that we do indeed have more acts to be announced. But that was before Newport just stopped announcing acts entirely (after hitting 18 on 2 of the 3 days). With the FJM after show announcement, there are no obvious omissions from the lineup either (a few maybes because of gaps in touring, but no obvious tour schedules with missing dates around Newport and missing Boston dates).
The only concerning factor to me is that there are currently 4 acts scheduled for Friday that are almost undeniably bigger than the biggest act currently announced for Saturday. It is really hard for me to believe a single headliner will be enough to address this discrepancy between days. And that Sunday does look to be missing an actual headliner (especially when Batiste and the Dap Kings are touring this year and not entirely unique to Newport and Toots is playing a bunch of free shows on their summer tour).

This sounds pretty much right to me, and the guess that the missing headliner is Jack White (TBA after Governor's Ball) sounds right to me as well. I had guessed that A Change is Gonna Come wouldn't close, but maybe that's not correct. Otherwise it's either Brandi Carlile or Gary Clark closing Sunday?
