Maybe Goldenvoice knows if they announce Frank Ocean only a few days in advance it won't really affect the demand for his Coachella performance
Why? There are a finite amount of tickets left regardless. You really think the few thousand or so probably left makes a huge difference for Coachella?
It would sell our regardless if they announced now or 3 days before, so I don't get how the theory makes any sense. If coachella was to be announced before this festival with Frank, then that would make sense. But no guarantee he plays Coachella even if he played here pre his next album.
This performance will also be different than this next. More CO/Blonde/Endless than next new shoe with next album. If he plays, maybe the last time his setlist is similar to last couple of yrs

Making it a surprise drives the hype and means less people that would go just to see Frank have the opportunity. Then a month later announce him for Coachella.

So CFG will take a big profit loss by not selling out as many tix as they can to possibly sell out coachella (which has 2 other headliners and the rest of the lineup which plays a bigger role than 1 headliner)
I don't get it tbh. If Frank plays now I will go to CFG and if he drops a new album for Coachella I will likely go again, but my entire decision isn't based off of 1 headliner. Who pays 425 for a ticket (or 505 with shuttle), and anywhere from $200-$500 (or much more) for camping, hotel, home, food, drinks, etc to really see 1 guy
I can see them saying it's "sold out" a few days before the fest and then announcing Frank
Maybe but that would lose them money. Cause I don’t know who is buying tickets from the website anymore. They’re on twitter almost half off. Got mine for 180. It’s 270 on the site now.
High chance of dropping out which both historically are.
This is the correct answer. If you have a high flight risk act, you wait as long as possible to keep then a secret until theres no way they can back out barring a huge backlash. If its Frank, he could still be mulling what the hell he wants to do. Kanye might also be in the same boat.

The people who went to sunday service on easter paid $425 to see that pretty much.
I would do all that for Gilmour and the only thing that stopped me from doing it last tour and going to NY was the fact I was already committed to a more expensive vacation in NY a couple months out.

Actually, depending on who that one person is, it's a bargain deal. I compare it to Ariana this year as in, a GA ticket to Ariana's thank u, next tour was north of 300 dollars on it's own. I'd much rather pay the 425 to catch her and tons of other acts at a festival, than to fork out that much money for her solo show. I don't think any Frank tour would ever be that expensive, but still.

More Frank fans outside of California would be willing to fly to LA, pay $250, not have to camp to see him at Odd Future fest with similar artists than pay for Coachella.
They now don’t have that chance but they’ll have a 3 month warning in January

Depending on the size of the tour and venues and such, I think resale could easily be that high for Frank. His fans are diehards
Agree with the larger point though! Lots of acts I wouldn't shell out to see in my city but would be fun to catch at a festival when the cost is spread out among other acts I like as well. Festivals are like Sam's Club or Costco but for shows: it's nice to get savings by buying in bulk
where did all these Frank fans willing to drop $1,000 just to see him at a festival come from? wristbands for FYF were going for below face the week of for FYF just 2 years ago.

They were literally giving away ticket to Wayhome (R.I.P.) two years ago too. I believe that was his last North American performance. Maybe his mystique has grown in the past couple of year.

Got my ticket for free! It was great and so was Frank. I remember that summer though TONS of people saying he isn't a headliner and even last year when his name got brought up a lot of people talked about him as a sub.

His day was the first day to sell out. And the festival sold out. Resale was over face for Saturday and resale for all 3 days was just below face closer to the festival.
