I don’t think the wait list is a response to the lower W2 sales but yeah, everything else probably is. I’m not so sure Sunday Service is a reaction to that either. I don’t mind PT’s response though, what else is he supposed to say? It’s not like he’s going to admit sales were slower.
Agreed with all this aside from the PT quote, there are better ways to word that. The waitlist is a genuinely good feature for people who want to attend, and Sunday Service seems like something Kanye would want more than GV, given the logistical nightmare it entails. But sales were certainly slower.
Man I still can't wrap my head around this idea that Weekend 2 is severely undersold and they stopped selling tickets in January just to save face or whatever.
The wait list? Tickets still available through AMEX? Billie Eilish hustling W2 tickets off their Instagram? And now having enough leftover "comped tickets" for W2 they can sell? None of this has happened before.
I mean, it's totally clear just by looking at Stubhub that the secondary market for the festival is down this year, so I'm not surprised the that AmEx link and Billie Eilish link still have W2 tickets available, specially since they haven't really advertised those options much at all. I just don't see how that confirms that the "Sellout" in january was just a smoke screen, which seems to be the agreed upon conclusion from everyone at this point. It also doesn't seem weird that they wanted to sell some more weekend 2 tickets after the Kanye add and thought the best option was to use some comp tickets. Probably easier than telling American Express and Billie Eilish you're taking back the tickets you agreed to give them.
I get why people are hesitant, I just felt like I'm missing something because the reaction out there isn't hesitance it's more like:
Jesus, this quote is kind of embarrassing for PT from that Billboard article. Who the hell believes this
And I still don't really get how the optics of a 24hr sellout are better for the festival than losing millions by heavily underselling W2. Someone said it was to push people to buy the overpriced ticket packages instead, which sounds very cynical but at least makes some sense.

It's all about the presale IMO. If people realize that you can buy Coachella tickets easily after the lineup gets released then no one will buy presale tickets. Being able to tell vendors/sponsors/ect that we already have 80% of our tickets sold 10 months before the festival makes them easier to lock up. Remember you're selling two weekends to them too. You aren't selling that W2 will have half the market of W1. People will reconsider their investment.
Good job on Coachella on taking Bonnaroo's lead and putting more stages in the campground. Maybe Kylie Jenner and her friends can run a coffee shop out there as well.

Tickets were available through a lottery that ended today at 6PT. Winners will be announced tomorrow. All tickets are will call only. They’re not selling tickets on Friday, except perhaps platinum charity tickets.

I’m thinking about what that security line is gonna look like when it’s 9am and those piano keys come on and people decide they need to get in NOW. Yikes.

Well, does anyone know how many people actually camp? Cause every single one of them will already be in and won't have to go through security.

9 am?
Over/under on first notes of this probably like 9:41 am

Exactly. And I really doubt there are that many people who make it to the fest by 9am who aren’t camping; I know there’s no chance I’d be up and at it Sunday morning to get there, if it were W1. This is a mostly-campers event.

Loose guess. 50%.
And I say 9:15am but who knows he did say sunrise lol

You’re crazy if you don’t think people will attempt. I mean they’re adjusting the shuttle schedule. And yes they will be hungover so getting there at 8am like they should won’t happen. But all arriving at 9 and it looking like sunset lines but if the headliner was at sunset will be nuts. This is a big selling point for a lot of people. This isn’t a Moon Boots set for yoga in the campgrounds.

Say we're excited to release some more tickets to give fans who want to see this the opportunity to attend without lying about how his industry friends clamoring for tickets will have to sacrifice their comps for the "hard core Kanye fans."

Something people forget is that GV were still papering the event 2002-2006. PT has basically said 2008 lost money.
They could have said they held back tickets for both weekends because of late addition acts/family/friend/industry hold backs. They moved things around and made only W2 passes available to the general public for Kanye.

If vendors know that W2 is 80% of W1 a couple years in a row(there was 2018 rumour of that) then they will negotiate accordingly.

Some fans might lineup at 6 am. Which is only 5 hours after the Saturday evening music is scheduled to end.
I'm reminded of Prince aftershows and the pre-reunion GNR(Axl & friends) shows that went past 3am. On some level it's an endurance race.
And I still don't really get how the optics of a 24hr sellout are better for the festival than losing millions by heavily underselling W2. Someone said it was to push people to buy the overpriced ticket packages instead, which sounds very cynical but at least makes some sense.
There are no fans "left in the cold". Just previous attendees that are passing on this lineup. California law prevents hotels from jacking rates, but when GV do travel packages they can charge what they want. This explain the wristband fine print that prevents other hotels from buying up their own passes and doing promotions. They buyout several hotels during those 6 days - I counted all the rooms and did some rough math that was several million each weekend. it's an arean where they make money that other festivals cannot and a reason why they don't have obvious corporate logos onsite beyond beer and sculpture art.

Either Kanye is being paid for Sunday or he's doing it as a huge favor after bailing last minute. Plus the Ariana/Kanye/Scooter management connection.
I actually wondered in january if Scooter knew all along to dangle kanye then swap out Ariana when GV had no other headline option.
Kanye won't do W1 as it would steal Ariana's Sunday PR blitz/thunder. Plus any MAGA/audience clusterfuck on the final day of 2 Coachella weekends means there is no need for GV "fix" the mess W2.
I’m not surprised. People need to feel like they HAVE to buy tickets. Presales help justify the prices they charge vendors. Vendors expect 100K yearly. Event doesn’t sell out then less people buy presale, vendor may not want to pay that Coachella price for 75K people
I think I'm missing your point, wouldn't you want to sell all your tickets to please your vendors/sponsors?

Hotel GA pass holders have the option to go back to their room and sleep another 4 hours. Campers have fewer post-Kanye sleep options.

Yeah Kanye West’s Sunday Service will surely live up to the hype of previous Bonnaroo campground experiences as meditation with Space Jesus.

Industry guests don't get GA tickets - especially W2 - it's that simple.

Friends dad works at a radio station and they’ve always gotten free GA passes for the week of their choice, which has been weekend 2 since 2013. So depending on what your definition of industry is, you’re completely off.

Kanye fired Scooter almost a year ago, I doubt he has anything to do with it. By all accounts he isn’t managing him currently nor was he during the booking period. I do however think you’re correct with regard the initial Ariana W1 buzz we will. This is her big star making moment after what’s been a huge run for her.
Just realized Kanye’s set is a great place for anyone who hates beer jail to enjoy a drink at a set. Since it’s at 9:00 am, you have to be super committed to your alcoholism though.
