Maybe if Janelle’s album actually blew up like SZA’s did.
I have changed my mind and decided Robyn could possibly sub if they really wanted her to and wanted to show case her, and put her in front of JT to make sure she got a large, pop-minded audience to support her. I still *think* she would be 4th/5th on the poster and play the outdoor, but previously thought she could never sub.
Monae - however - I can't imagine being higher than 5th on her day. She won't have much momentum going into next Coachella unless some collab comes out of nowhere and isn't getting very impressive billings right now.

I think another important note with her that makes her a bit unusual is that she's also now a successful actress too, which has risen her profile pretty significantly (as well as, to a much lesser extent, her relationship with Tessa Thompson). I'd agree that she's not really a pop crossover act, but she's got a big cult following and sold out a lot of big venues on this tour.
edit: You could probably make a similar argument for Robyn getting a high billing because of her cult status, too - her biggest commercial success in America was in the mid 90s, but she was also playing big venues on her last tour with Röyksopp, to say nothing of the fact that as a solo artist she hasn't had much activity for almost a decade now.

I feel Coachella would give Janelle Monae a sub spot over Robyn, if given the chance. But I don't see either subbing. Cardi B sub or headlining set if she maintains momentum by 2020, sure.

Isn’t Dirty Computer being reviewed as one of the best albums of the year?
It’s been pretty high up there but hasn’t been lauded across the board. NME & A.V. Club loved it but I also remember many people thought Pitchfork was going to give it at least a 9 & it wasn’t even BNM’d.

Interesting tidbit from Ezra Koenig’s podcast. He says that Coachella offered Vampire Weekend the Haim spot from 2018, but they couldn’t get the band and touring support ready in time to be good to go in April. Makes me think that they are very likely to be there in 2019

He also said with their live shows right now, they should be hitting their stride by April 2019.
Thom Yorke just announced two dates at the end of December at the Orpheum Theatre.
Looks like they're Goldenvoice shows, so could be exempt from the radius clause stuff.

Radius clause does actually start December 15th, but Goldenvoice show supercedes anything. I'm sure he'll be there if he wants to be.
