My friends that went to that Real Estate show said it was so disappointing because the crowd was dead and the music didn't fit the time. You might have heard differently, but you're kind of proving my point.
Archetype to me of a late night tent rock set was Foals on Friday of 2013 - that whole tent was rocking, people going nuts, band feeding off the energy, etc.
It's mostly selfish bitterness because I wanted to see Real Estate last year, and assumed it'd be a nice little afternoon tent set. I forget which headliner they were up against.
They overlapped with Kendrick, Justice and New Order. I stopped by for a second before Justice and think there were fifty people there max.

Can anyone explain/confirm if this will rule all of them (Julien Baker/Phoebe Bridgers/Lucy Dacus @ The Observatory) out or if they are still in play since this is a GV venue?
The whole fest is amazing, but yes KSG has an insane draw. I’m not surprised by that sellout time at all.
The fest took months to sell out GA last time
KSG is a huge draw
Coachella should pay attention and realize that if they book someone like AM/Florence/Tame, the crowd size will be very small
It probably would be rather sizable with any of them (maybe not AM) but also, they don't give a flying fuck about the size of the crowd. They care about selling tickets.

I think this is early enough and the acts are small print enough they could still be in play. Also, I don’t know what this tour is going to be exactly. They are doing a joint EP together, are they just touring as that band? Are all three playing individually plus the joint songs?

I think it's more a matter of "will they want to continue this tour once it's done?" So, maybe, maybe not.I don't think it'd matter for the solo acts, but all three have been touring extensively this year and I doubt Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers are going to keep touring behind their 2017 albums once this tour wraps up.

The Fader article that got deleted said they'd each perform solo with the encore being Boy Genius.

I'm envisioning a Monsters Of Folk scenario where they did the album cycle and then highlighted each members catalog after that. Curious to see how this turns out.

Speaking of, the Travis / Nicki “fued” is interesting to me. While it’s easy to dismiss the whole thing as sour grapes because her album was #2, she’s absolutely right in her criticism of the way Spotify can put their thumb on the scale. In the old days, some artists would get played more than others on the radio, and that indirectly led to sales. Now, Spotify playlists are filling the role of mainstream radio, when people are mindless popping on whatever playlist, those listens now count as sales directly. Astroworld is getting somewhat better placement on RapCaviar than Queen, did that, and similar playlists, make the difference between who had the number one album?
I don’t really have a point I guess, but really underscores how arbitrary all these sales numbers are anymore. Maybe plays of promoted tracks shouldn’t count, similar to how Pandora is already excluded.
Geseffelstein, who's that? Pretty much all of those second liners are #2's, I'm not even gonna bother going further down lol
A French, witch house dj who has produced for Kanye, closed his stage for the weekend at Coach 15 (was awesome), and smokes entirely too many cigs while he performs. He’s legit, but also a bit elusive. Unless he has new material I wouldn’t expect him.

they're still pretty young, I feel like their stage presence could use some maturation. I also don't think their sound really translates well to main stages at festivals, I'd much rather see them in club/indoor venue type setting, but if you enjoy their music, they're solid.

It didn’t help that Caracal wasn’t very good. They slowed down their sound and it just doesn’t sound good live. The new single is a return to form though.

Yes but people seemed less excited about them last go around. Being away has helped. Think they are even more likely to play 2020 though.
I initially thought the same but they’ve already dropped three singles so far this year so we may be looking at an early 2019 album release. If that’s the case then next year may be much more likely than 2020.
after their first album i thought they were harbingers of a "purer" house-music sound becoming more popular in EDM and pop, which was very exciting to me. this did not end up being the case, i don't think their success had any impact on EDM at all. then i couldn't connect with their second album, i think it was because the mix/mastering tended more towards a muddled top 40 tonality rather than an emphasis on clean and clear beats, or maybe the songwriting just wasn't as good.
but i'm still interested in hearing whatever new music they have coming. plus i've never seen them live.
