I have a weird feeling that Childish Gambino is going to end up NOT being one of the headliners.
See ya in January.
Have we had other sources besides Launchy confirm him? To have two headliners leak this early seems really odd. It’s possible that Gambino has been part of the discussion but will ultimately not be one of them just like other leaks we’ve had in the past.
10 years from their last Coachella appearance and 3 years from their last California performance. Seems possible I guess, but a bit of a "been there done that" I don't think it would generate any hype.

My gut says that Gov Ball tried to book Gambino as a headliner next year and his camp came back with "we have prior commitments next spring" or something like that and it's being run with as Gambino is headlining Coachella. But if it's stronger than that, Fozzie or Launchie, please blink twice lol
I personally have no clue how Glover is pulling this off with his schedule. Atlanta is supposed to be writing/filming next spring, Lion King stuff coming out next fall so should be work, and he has a million other things going on. I always thought he was going to put Gambino away for a couple years because he was so busy, and saying its going away now propelled him to getting ACL/arena tour/etc. in fall 2018 when it still worked for his schedule, but obviously he'll be working on it a lot in spring 2019 if he's headlining Coachella. PT has put an emphasis on the spectacle of Coachella in recent years and so it does seem odd he would want Gambino to come back just to do the same set he did all fall before; Kendrick being the perfect example of how the set got changed up. But if the album's out this fall, what could he really change between ACL and Coachella? I'm sure he has something cooking, but interesting booking.

I agree. Hype is not the primary criterion I'm evaluating.

They cut the power at the Cure’s last Coachella set because Robert Smith wouldn’t stop playing. My guess is that neither side would be super excited to work with the other, even after 10 years have passed.

They've shared big names before including Drake so I'm not sure how much of a difference that would make.
I think calling Childish Gambino a headliner mostly due to the success of This Is America may have been a bit premature. In retrospect, I'm not sure if Gambino really should've been billed so high at ACL, sorta like how we view the Chance billings now. Even if he drops an album later this year, I find it hard to imagine it being more successful than something like Astroworld.

Chance is still a headliner and Gambino is one too. Fall tour has sold out nights in NY, London, LA, ect. Big venues too.

I wouldn’t believe that’s what keeps them from playing a Coachella. Plenty of artists do this and they all know what will happen.

Also this is Gambinos last album
I haven’t checked the others but his LA shows definitely aren’t sold out.
Typically, we do guess three headliners and 22 undercard acts. Headliners are worth 3, undercard 1. Acts that have already leaked are ineligible. Since most people will guess JT and Gambino as two of the headliners, it takes a little bit of fun out of it.
I’m thinking this- you can guess JT and Gambino if you like, and if they are on the lineup you get 3 points. However, if you guess any other headliners they are worth 5. So if the headliners are Kanye - JT - Chance the Rapper (Gambino is unexpectedly absent from the poster) and you guessed those three, you get 13 points.
Thoughts? Open to other suggestions
What about losing a point if you guess them and they're not on the lineup?
so if you guessed Gambino instead of Chance in the above example, you'd only get 7
So I think I’m going to go with this for the scoring. There will be a list of rumored bands (both headliners and undercard). You can still guess them, and if they’re on the lineup you get the appropriate amount of points. If you guess them and they’re not on the lineup you lose a point. If we get any direct artist confirmations or tour dates that leave no doubt the act will be at Coachella, I’ll make an off limits list of bands that cannot be guessed.
If anyone feels strongly about an alternative scoring let me know and we can do a poll.
Pool will be open for roughly the month of September.
Slayer seems like a pretty interesting candidate for a surprise second line act.
Just announced that 2019 will be a super busy year with 12 months of goodbye shows on their final tour.
LA band, GV roots, the "farewell" aspect means they should at least get a decent showing at a night tent like Motorhead in 2014, would be kind of disappointing if this didn't happen.
Assuming this: *EDIT* should be a Tweet from @rollingloud saying "rt if you're ready to be reborn at Rolling Loud"
Could be something. LA lineup drops after the Bay Area fest
Hmm, wouldn't that take out KSG if they play on the 15th? Unless they play the 14th
Maybe makes more sense if Kanye headlines or if Cudi is on 2nd or 3rd line and Kanye comes out for a few songs
A few days difference won’t really matter regarding the clause. They didn’t enforce the exact day for Migos and Post Malone who played Rolling Loud SoCal last year too.

For something as big as Kanye/KSG the radius clause probably doesn't really matter much anyway.

Ok, so this info doesn't really tell us much if they will be playing or not
