Maybe “weird” isn’t the right word to use but all those bookings feel more like what they used to book more of before Coachella went heavier into pop. Just seems like they’ve been going in the opposite direction as of late. If you were to tell me those acts were playing a festival next year, I wouldn’t have guessed Coachella.
Not that I’m complaining or anything.
Maybe the “they’re going in opposite direction” talking point is vastly overstated.
If Dua Lipa isn't releasing new material, it seems like they would hold out on her to sub for her next album release (2020/2021) vs. play the same show she's toured on for the last 12 months.

Agreed. She said that the new album will come out next year and I’m guessing it won’t be an early release so 2020 seems more likely.
Even with two crappy headliners in pocket, I still feel like I’m gonna miss out on the best fest of the year based on some of these undercard possibilities. Give me Woodstock or give me serious coach Fomo.
They went for Sleep apparently. Though I don't think Matt understands how radius clauses work.
At one point I want to be surprised. At the other, Roadburn is basically the Super Bowl of metal at this point. You just don't turn that down if you get the chance to play there.

Truth.
They are from the Bay Area though and a chance to play for big bucks a few miles from home shocked me. They wouldn't get two and a half hours and definitely not two nights. It's on Coachella's radar. Hopefully it will manifest some time.
Was Metallica ruled out? Because I could see them being more inclined to pursue Sleep and other metal acts with them headlining.
No reason to rule them out. IIRC, someone saw that the last announced show on their tour is being advertised as "their last U.S. show" or something like that, but of course that would be.
I still maintain there's a decent probability they play. Timberlake / Metallica / Gambino would be pretty good genre coverage, and adding in a couple big female subs like LDR or Dua Lipa or Missy or someone wouldn't make people scream diversity regression from the last two years. If Rihanna's not ready (and didn't she take like 4 years on ANTI and is currently filming a bunch of movies?), I don't think they're going to force a female in there just to do it.

Somewhat related, but Foxing's show last night kicked the shit out of most other "young" bands that I've seen recently. They better be there next year.

Yeah my friend called me after their NYC stop to tell me not to miss them when they come to LA. Unfortunately last night was also the Jon Hopkins show that I pad a lot more to see.

Friend of mine who saw him in Toronto said Hopkins is only playing 75 minutes on this tour, which is bordering on inexcusable.
