Maybe, but until he produces a photo of himself wearing an Impeach Gorsuch tee and handing Kamila Harris an oversized novelty check for her 2020 presidential campaign, I’m gonna have to make fun of him just to be safe.
Every festival should just book Drake next year, I guess.
Unless a fest doesn't enjoy making money, I don't see why not. He's as close to a sure thing as there is. Maybe he doesn't after his massive tour coming up but I wouldn't be mad seeing him on the poster for this, Gov Ball, Lolla, etc

Yeah at this point Drake falls into the category of acts I would enjoy at a festival but won't pay his ticket prices. I'd rather him than JT or Childish or Florence easily.

What the deuce is going on here? Do your calendars go straight from 2014 to 2016?
He had a chance at Coachella and he laid a giant turd. I was there. I done smelt it.

True, Coachella is big enough they don't need Drake and vice versa. They could pick three headliners out of a hat and both weekends will still sell out.
My original statement was born out of JT seemingly being confirmed for next year. Why would you, in 2018-2019, book JT -- 10 minute *NSYNC cameo or not -- if you could get Drake who in spite of mid reviews and being murdered by Pusha T currently owns not only streaming, but the charts, and social media with "In My Feelings." This would be like pushing Beyoncé after Lemonade to the side for like, Ellie Goulding. Coachella shows where pop culture is at in the moment, isn't that what some fans say? That it sets the tone for the coming festival season, isn't that what everyone here says? They're gonna set the tone with a guy who was last poppin in 2013, and who some people may not ever remember dropped an album this year? Boop.

If music festivals actually followed the “only book the most popular artists available” logic some of you guys ascribed to they’d be really fucking boring.

1. They haven’t booked him before. 2. He’s a rare fest grab. 3. He’s an icon. 4. His fans bought up his latest garbage album/tour just like Drake’s fans bought up the garbage he has spewed for the last 3 years.
Drake is old news for Coachella. That’s not saying he wouldn’t pack a stage.

1. No one demonstrated following this logic 2. Isn't this exactly what Coachella does? Sure with a handful of cool gets sprinkled in but they're the most recognized American festival, why would they not try to get the most popular artists? Isn't that what every festival should be doing, is get artists tens of thousands of people will enjoy?

They should get lots of artists that collectively tens of thousands of people will enjoy. That doesn’t mean they should get the most popular artists available regardless of other obvious factors like “we just had this fucking guy headline a few years ago.”
Also, keeping the press happy and writing about this festival is just as important to Coachella as keeping the fans happy. Booking repeat headliners just because they’re popular doesn’t get you the, ahem, headlines.
It’s never been about booking the most popular artists.
Maybe not for the entire lineup, but it's a big part of it. How else do are you gonna explain huge second liners like Post Malone, Kygo, Cardi, Tyler, Vince, Travis, Dillon Francis, DJ Snake, Martin Garrix, Jack U, Major Lazer, Halsey, Zedd, etc. And they're just from when I started going in 2016. Some of them could arguably headline smaller, regional fests. It's absolutely part popularity contest

Nobody is arguing Drakes popularity, but saying he should get a repeat chance before JT even gets a shot is just too much. If it was their first time then Drake wins every time, but it’s not.

Just "right now?" My guy, come on. Dude's popularity has been skyrocketing since like 2010. Again, I'm arguing he's far and away the better choice over JT. It's really not too much to be saying he should be brought back over JT getting his first shot. The gap between their places in music right now is so big it shouldn't even take a second thought. Small case in point: "SoulMate" came and went without a peep

Then what's he being booked for? His place in music five, ten years ago? He is a rare fest grab but he sure hasn't hit icon status yet, as you claim. He was on his way. He had a solid debut, followed it with album containing sounds no one had yet, and followed that up with an excellent pop & b album dulled by a wack and unnecessary part 2. Then he followed up years later by whatever the hell MOTW was supposed to be. Star? Absolutely. Icon? Nah

Awful opinions. Timberlake is basically the second coming of Annie Lennox. Only I would argue he has already surpassed Lennox. He is unquestionably nothing but pure raw talent. Doesnt need to rely on production to have a live performance that shakes the earth with nothing but his voice. He is a legend in his prime, that people will be listening to and other artists will be inspired by for decades. Nothing "boring" about that and any festival that books him is lucky.
