This was my initial thought, but I think it'd still go over very well from a booking perspective. Have they ever played a US Fest before? They feel like a Jazzfest type of booking but that's it.
Original Fleetwood Mac (metal/rock band) played National Jazz & Blues Fest in 1967.
Played Jazz Fest 2013. I'm not sure if they ever played it before that. They did a 2:30 hour set for that. I tried to go over there, but opted for something else as it was too packed to even find a place to see the screens (you could hear okay, but that side of the Fair Grounds was too packed).
yeah it was as crowded as it was for bruce springsteen, maybe even more so. it's crazy that even with the track access you couldn't find a place where the screens were visible.
in the end it was lucky, because we ended up at Stanley Clarke/George Duke in the jazz tent. Amazing set, and George Duke died just three months later. I was glad I was able to catch him.

I’d still be down to see the Fleetwood Hacks, and I think festivals would be crazy not to book them. The casual fan who’d be excited by this booking probably can’t name anyone in the band beyond Stevie Nicks, and most hardcore fans would probably say oh well and suck it up and be satisfied with Mike Campbell and Neil Finn as replacements. Those guys are great fill ins. This isn’t like Axl Rose replacing Slash with three children in a trenchcoat back when he was touring GnR without him.
That said, I think the Forum dates rule the out. If it was Staples Center then maybe. Plus they’re rumored to be headlining Glasto.

Same. The closers for that 2nd Saturday were Fleetwood Mac x Phoenix x Clarke & Duke x Frank Ocean x Los Lobos
I was at Phoenix, but I went to the other side where I could find a bathroom (luckily that's been fixed) and ended up just staying at Stanley Clarke & George Duke by jabco & his old lady. It was a bit too R&B considering all the jazz and Zappa and other shit they've done in their careers, but I was still glad to see that show since as you said, Duke died that summer.
I'd def be excited to see FM regardless of their makeup for that show. However, and I know I'm probably in the minority, but I'd rather Metallica or Tool (esp with new music and possibly new production on those insane Main Stage screens) to them but that's just my taste in music.

that's an insane set of closers, damn.
but anyway this is the coachella thread we should probably shut up about jazzfest.

If that's the case, I have a shot seeing them there too.
I'm seriously assembling a team to help get tickets for a few of us. I also now have some friends working, or in school in the UK, so I'll get them to help as well. This is my year, dammit.

Have you been poking around Efests? Their ticket groups are great for that.

I didn't know they did that, thanks! I do post there sometimes too, not sure how I managed to miss it.
The kids didn't give a shit about Soulwax until last weekend (well a few of them at least). I don't really get this argument. This festival can/does cater to multiple bases and get away with it.

This. Why do we have this conversation every year? Coachella is gonna give us the lineup THEY want to give us, and we're gonna like it god damnit.
Kanye has bad opinions. This is not new. I would still like to catch him again here and hope the album is everything I’d hoped for. I can deal with his antics even if our political views might conflict. But that’s just me

It might get a tad awkward if he goes on a 20-minute pro-Trump rant during his show. I caught him on the first leg of the Saint Pablo Tour, pretty relieved I didn't see him on the second leg when he was losing his mind on-stage.

I know Eddie Vedder gets booed by Pearl Jam fans. I've seen people jump all over Jason Isbell and Margo Price on twitter for their differing views. I don't think anyone is really going to stop going to shows or whatever. They're definitely not going to quit listening to the music.
I have absolutely zero idea who Sade is. Also Yeezy is losing his mind right now lol.
You would know a bunch of her songs. She's a singer with a Nigerian father and British mother who is a musical goddess. Love Deluxe was probably her biggest album, but you'll know "Kiss of Life", "Smooth Operator" (most likely to have heard the most), "The Sweetest Taboo", "Cherish the Day", "(This is No) Ordinary Love".
She's an absolute musical goddess, and one of the few modern-era R&B acts (talking post Stax/Motown heyday) that I love.
Also, her band Sweet Back is outrageously talented. It's more in the smooth jazz realm, but they can jam like the fuck.
