Went to the tour opener last night in the Fox Theater. It was a no-phone show, so going by memory here, but here's a couple things for people that want to hear for show splitting purposes or aren't going:
-They played for essentially 95-100 minutes so pretty sure they were running their full Coachella show front to back -Opened with "Let it Happen" which completely bangs following a one-minute avant garde type film intro of people walking through a field (I thought it would be a super scene-y LA crowd, but very good overall vibes) and they shot off multiple confetti canons at the peak of the song. Imagine that will be sick on the fields -Went straight into "Patience" into "The Moment", both of which really kept the energy up -Lasers come into full effect during "Elephant" and it will be pretty impressive visually -Confetti canons came out twice more - once at the apex of "New Person" and once during I thinnnnkkk "Less I know the Better" but I obviously didn't have a phone to note it down -They close with a run of bangers and a hit parade, so if you're splitting this set, the last 30 mins is the peak I think -Overall Kevin is a lot more comfortable doing stage work and has a much better stage presence than last time I saw them in 2016/2017. Interacted with the crowd a lot during "Backwards" and had the crowd sing the whole second chorus while he kind of orchestrated it (gamble at Coachella!) -Band sounded really tight, and they're ready for the moment, hopefully the crowd comes through. Only 2 new songs and a bizarre 1-2 minute interlude I didn't recognize, so don't expect anything else.
I thought the first half of the set was a little stronger, it had more of their upbeat songs. It felt a bit like a rock set, cool extended interlude of Gossip, and then a poppier set for the second half. Borderline sounded really good live, a lot more attention grabbing than the studio version.
The visuals are going to look amazing on those big Coachella screens. It was cool seeing them in a small venue again, last I saw them in a place that small was 2012, but the visuals couldn’t compare to how amazing Panorama looked.
So far its 3/3 for me. The acts have been great, the crowds have been great and people are showing up in large numbers to early sets. Saw Let's Eat Grandma, Yellow Days, and Turnstile
Mad props to the Gambino team for getting him a headlining spot this year.
This is a fairly bland, boring set and he's the #2 act of the weekend essentially. Incredible ability to take advantage of a year of festival dislocation - they should be applauded. I'm bored out of my skull behind my computer right now; not sure if I was there how I wouldn't have left for another set by now.
Anderson Paak had the best set of the day that I saw. It was stupid crazy great. The main stage run from Kacey Musgraves/Anderson Paak/The 1975/Janelle Monae was the greatest run of acts on the same stage I've ever seen. Kacey was amazing, The 1975 amazing, Janelle Monae blew me away and exceeded my expectations. Gambino was solid. He sings way better live than I thought he would. But didn't feel like a headlining set at all. Turnstile was extremely fun. Yellow Days was quality music. Let's Eat Grandma was amazing. JPEGMAFIA was great energy but him being on the outdoor felt off. That should have been a Sonora or Gobi set.
Sidenote: Whoever it was that told me that Janelle Monae shows are what Beyonces show should have been last year.. that was spot on. She had the perfect balance between showmanship and music, never a stale moment.

I was impressed with the variety of music I was able to see yesterday. We went Ross From Friends, Los Tucanes, Turnstile, Beach Fossils, Calypso Rose, Gorgon City, Paak, Rosalia, Polo & Pan, Rufus, Janelle, Nina and Charlotte.
Crowds were good at everything except Charlotte, which was small but fine.

Fantastic day yesterday, highly recommend everyone I saw. Did Turnstile -> King Princess -> FISHER/SG Lewis -> (dinner) -> the Frights -> the 1975 -> RUFUS -> Janelle Monae -> Charlotte Gainsbourg -> Childish Gambino Highlights of the day were the Frights and the 1975, was blown away by both, also Janelle Monae absolutely killed it.
Maybe it's just the acts I was seeing, but with the exception of Fisher, the crowds felt pretty mild yesterday. Even RUFUS had a lot of room in the crowd, the 1975 was easy to get a great spot for and yes, Charlotte Gainsbourg was *CRIMINALLY* empty. I'm a little bummed I didn't get to see the spectacle that was BLACKPINK, but honestly, pretty glad that I avoided the monster crowd.

I dunno, I thought Charlotte was crowded enough given the set time and competition, and the reality that I don’t think a lot of festival goers really knew her, she wasn’t as buzzy as a Polo & Pan act. I got my group of 24 to all go to her though, none of whom really knew her or what to expect, and she did not disappoint. At that point in the night I was happy to chill in the back of the tent dancing with my people.
I thought the crowds were some of the best in years yesterday, and the shows were pretty much all great. That Polo & Pan set, woof, what a show. Not one single regret about skipping Blackpink. My one complaint is the OONTZ OONTZ from Gorgon City eating into Kacey Musgraves’ sound. Kept taking me out of what should’ve been a magical set.
I am surprised by the love for Gambino on Reddit. Felt like his set took awhile to get going, and then every time it did he’d take weirdly long breaks to talk/smoke/etc. The cinematography was stunning, but when that’s the best thing I have to say about a set, not great. We left halfway through and it appeared most of the festival did the same.

My two must sees today are Christine & The Queens and Tame Impala. Anyone want to recommend another afternoon set I should prioritize? There’s plenty I’m interested in but nothing standing out.
Also: Kanye’s in Bali, so no Kids See Ghosts tonight. Not a lot of guests in general so far, not that those sets needed guests.
Calypso Rose was a big standout for me. The crowd had such a great energy at her set, and her little dancing was adorable.
Tomasa del Real and the strippers they brought with them was a fun start to the day. Las Robertas we’re good and gritty. King Princess put on a really good show, as well. Tierra Whack was good but unmemorable.
Anderson put on a fire set! Another few years and he’ll make a great headliner.
We did half of Polo and half of Blackpink. Both were great sets, and I wish I could’ve see all of them.
Chris Lake put on a great Yuma set. It was a lot emptier in the tent then I expected, though. I think Rufus and/or Diplo took away a lot of his crowd.
Janelle was show-stopping as always. It’s a shame her set was really under-attended too.
We hoped back and forth between Nina and Charlotte. Both fun in their own way.
Childish was the only disappointment of the day.
The water stations were great! I didn’t have to wait ina line once to fill up.
