I assume the amateurs over at Daniel have never gone to Coachella? Imagine dogging on a festival like this one because people dress nice and legitimately thinking Bonnaroo is THE party to be at this year.
Christine into Weezer into Aphex into Parcel into Tame was a fucking amazing night!
What kind of spot were you able to get at Tame?
Anyone else that can comment on how crowded that set was, I would appreciate it!
Tame was pretty deep early on but tons of people left early to get spots for Cudi. At the end it was pretty thin (relatively for a headliner anyways) and the crowd was quiet. It wasn't too hard to get a decent spot and I was late to Tame from Billie

Not hard to get a good spot for Tame. It’s not like it was empty but we were able to easily get to the the first speaker on the middle left of the sound booth (S1) with room to dance. Excellent set from them.
The crowd at Billie Eilish was the craziest I have ever seen at the Outdoor. Really insane. We couldn’t get past the line of palm trees where the festival expanded last year, and wound up immediately turning back because it was too overwhelming. We went to the Indio market beer garden to watch (pretty great if distant view of Outdoor from there anyhow, and for the best since she was 35 mins late).
Do not miss Christine and the Queens, whatever you do. My goodness the artistry of that set. Like David Byrne last year, times 100. One of my favorite sets I’ve ever seen.
Glad we decided to hit up Weezer, a great shut up and play the hits set. Makes a little more sense that they got the main stage sub given the Tears For Fears and TLC guest spots, but they really should’ve been swapped with Billie Eilish.
Tried to see FKJ but the tent was overflowing for him, which I didn’t really expect, so I didn’t last long there. Did find the tiki bar, that was fun. Apparently there’s a speakeasy disco near Indio Central also?
Anyone want to comment on the Sonora crowds? From what I’ve seen there, WAY better than the last couple years. Plenty of moshing at some sets, solid crowd for acts like Hop Along. The new location and beer garden addition are fantastic. It has real potential moving forward.

Oh, and Kid Cudi sucked. Not happy I got dragged over there only to see 10 mins and bail for Major Lazer (much better but I wish I’d just gone to Outdoor for Bassnectar in the first place).

I'll always have a soft spot for Cudi since he was temporarily the bandleader for the TV version of Comedy Bang Bang, but yeah, there's no excuse for him getting that billing in 2019

I've been watching on the livestream so can't comment from being there, but honestly I am realllly impressed by the crowds this year. A lot of bands that I thought didn't have a shot in hell at getting a good crowd size seemed to do really well...Khruangbin later at night where indie bands often die, Calypso Rose, Little Simz during a headliner etc. And then a lot of acts looked like they had ginormous tent crowds (Parcels, Polo & Pan, King Princess, etc). Even Charlotte Gainsbourg which I knew would be small didn't look embarrassingly small on the screen. And early word on Aphex sounds like he had a great crowd that was really into it.
I wonder if the lack of mainstream hype for this year led a lot of secondary market tickets going to people who were more into the music. Last year it seemed like every other set was underattended but from the stream anyway, it seems like a lot of artists are going to walk away really happy with their Coachella crowd energy. If what you are saying about the Sonora is true, that's awesome too.

Yeah, I’ve said it before, but the crowds have been great this year. Everything relatively or very well attended, great energy. You may be right about the secondhand market. I also just think having Childish, Janelle, Tame, and Solange as 4/6 at the top of the lineup means many of the biggest draws are the kinds of acts that draw people to the undercard. Those groups have all come up through the undercard, classic modern festival acts. If you’ve been into them over the last 5 years there’s a good chance you caught them in the undercard at a fest, which I would think means you’re the kind of person to be interested in the rest of the undercard.
Christine and the Queens was one of the best shows I have ever seen at a festival! The dancers, smoke, and pyro all made for such an immersive show, and she had such great energy and stage presence.
