I'll say this about my experience: I've basically been going since 2012 to try and make up for the FOMO of missing 2011 - and I feel like this year finally made up for it. This was an incredible weekend. Seriously considering trying to go back for W2 somehow.
I also think there’s just general fatigue with this festival, and its reputation as the basic bitch festival is so so strong. Did the crowd seem younger this year at all? When I first saw the lineup it struck me as an attempt to attract a younger/new and more diverse crowd than usual.
You know what's funny, I actually saw more "older"/elderly people this year. Which makes me happy.
Agree with the other comments that the crowd seemed better this year. Maybe partly due to the less "star"-driven lineup, the people that ended up going were more people that were actually interested in the acts.

Coachella forum refugee here though it's been a while since I was last active as "enginedown". Finally remembered this board exists.
What's up with weekend 2 meetups this year? How about a campground beer exchange when Thursday starts to cool down? It's just gonna be me and my 19 y/o nephew (his first time, passing the torch so to speak), kinda bummed his first experience won't be with a big group and just with his boring uncle, so looking to meet some cool people.

Since I am organizing this for some ungodly reason, we are planning on two more or less official meetups on Friday at Let's Eat Grandma, with some possible goings-on at the beer garden before hand (apologies to your nephew) and one on Saturday at Shame. I'm just waiting for the W2 set times to come out though before designating official times slash when and if beer garden stuff is happening.
As for campground stuff on Thursday, is anybody else interested in doing that? I'm not sure how many people are camping and when they are planning on arriving, so that might be trickier to organize logistically.
So whats the general consensus regarding the Childish Gambino set on here? Haven't heard much...
What do his long time fans think?
Gambino's band was great. Gambino sings a ton better in person than I expected. He sounded good. But there were way too many breaks in the music so there was never a momentum. And you could tell a lot of the casuals in the crowd didn't know his Awaken My Love deep cuts. To me songs like Riot and Boogieman were highlights of the show but most people didn't know those songs.

ME TOO (at trying to get into Weekend 2 somehow). Like I always have a blast at Coachella and miss it when I get home. But this year I seriously feel like I NEED to go back. This year felt amazing to me, it was so happy. And I do think the lack of "star power" has a lot to do with the vibe of all of the crowds.

Ha, where I was, the crowd didn’t care until he got to Awaken My Love. That stuff played much better than what came before. But yeah, he kept stopping and killing the energy. We left halfway through.
Rap: Kanye, Chance (with new album), Travis Scott (with new album) Rock: Coldplay, Metallica, System of a Down (great Friday/cheapest option, with or without new album, huge fan base), Vamp Weekend (probably a sub still) R&B: Frank Ocean Pop: Adele, Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna Electronic: Daft Punk, Swedish House Mafia
System/Adele/Kanye is my wish list but if they pick 2 heavy and 1 light artist from this list, they will sell great.
I like Travis, but I feel like that will disappoint tons of people on forums/reddit and older crowd. But could appeal to tons of younger people. Still Need to keep balance of age demographic, need older people to spend money.
SOD would be disappointing. Sub makes more sense Shm also dissapointing. They’ve fallen off and so has main room edm. Sub makes more sense
Travis with a new album would be a great booking. Maybe the best rap booking that they could get outside of Kanye. But if he's still going off of Astroworld it would just feel like super lazy sloppy seconds. Also include J Cole in the list of rappers who could headline with a new album. I'm not a huge fan of his and I know a lot of people think he's boring, but his fan base is massive.
SOD works as a Friday "weak" headliner if the other two headliners are star studded. SOD's fan base is huge and dedicated, they'd pack out their set for sure. If we ever get that rumored album and it does relatively well, it'd have to be headline or bust. And they're def bigger than Vampire Weekend by a wide margin. (Bigger than Tame, Gambino for sure, if they can headline then the flood gates are kinda open here with possibilities).
Rihanna would probably move the most tickets, But I almost don't want her to be booked because I don't want the crowds to emulate Beyonce 2018, nothing against Rihanna herself. Adele would be a rare booking since she doesn't play festivals as far as I know. And she said she will not do huge tours anymore, so there would be a reason for people to flock to Coachella for her.

Lol I feel like Gambino could have fit in 3 more songs minimum without all the stoppage
Pretty solid weekend. Favorite sets of the day in bold
FRIDAY: Let's Eat Grandma -> walked around -> Jauz -> King Princess -> Fisher (15 minutes) -> Kacey Musgraves -> Still Woozy -> Anderson Paak (first 30 minutes) -> Polo & Pan -> The 1975 (2nd half) -> Khruangbin -> Janelle Monae (2nd half) -> Charlotte Gainsbourg -> Childish Gambino
SATURDAY: Jambinai -> ARIZONA -> The Interrupters -> Mac Demarco (half) -> Soulection (last 15 minutes) -> Bazzi -> Bob Moses -> Maggie Rogers (half) -> Superorganism -> Weezer (the Tears For Fears feature was the best moment this year) -> hopping back and forth between Aphex Twin and Parcels -> Tame Impala -> Kid Cudi
SUNDAY: Easy Life -> Antarctic Dome -> the secret speakeasy disco inside of the Indio Central Market (this is DEFINITELY worth your time) -> Social House -> Pusha T -> Unknown Mortal Orchestra -> Blood Orange -> HYUKOH (last 20 minutes) -> Zedd (first 15 minutes) -> Gesaffelstein -> Perfume (for 5 minutes) -> walked by the Sahara at the end of Gucci Gang -> Khalid (2nd half) -> H.E.R. -> Ariana Grande
What was great: - The new layout with the Sonora, Gobi, and Mojave all together. It felt like I walked a lot less this year compared to last year, even though I staged hopped a lot more this time. - Again, the secret Disco in the Indio Central Market. The theme is 'New Years 1979'. Best drinks in the entire festival, hands down. - Most crowds (or at least the ones I was at) were generally decently big, and I didn't encounter TOO many assholes this year, especially compared to 2018.
What wasn't so great: - The art. Compared to the previous couple years, I thought the art was generally pretty lacking, but the Hippos are always great. - The food. Also compared to how great the food has been getting the past few years, I thought this year was a step down. I could have just been getting the wrong things though. - The sound quality. Definitely not the worst year for that, but could have certainly been improved, & I bet probably will be for Weekend 2.
It was a surprisingly great year for how much I generally disliked the lineup. Not the best year, but definitely one of the better ones of the now 13 I've been going. Weirdly enough, I've never wanted to go back more for Weekend 2, and it has almost nothing to do with Kanye.

I wanted to see Khru so bad but I couldn't justify leaving the Main with how close (one layer behind the railing) I was. Were they that good? (You missed Django Jane though which was probably my favorite from Janelle's set along with Pynk).
Super interesting you put Gambino and Cudi on your faves of the whole weekend, I heard a lot of complaints from both. I only saw Cudi in passing, Sahara was bleeding out way too far to get any decent view or sound by the time I got there after Tame. Although I did catch Through The Late Night which sounded so good.
We saw 16 of the same acts though lol. I tried to keep my set splitting to a minimum this year, if a set was super good I just kinda bit the bullet and missed who I was going to split it with. I was gonna split Maggie and Superorganism but Maggie was too good to leave, I did end up catching the last 3 songs or so of Superorgansim.

Yeah, Khruangbin was spectacular. I really liked that they had a respectable crowd size for the time and stage they were playing.
I thought Gambino was incredible. I can see why some people thought it was sort of a weird flow, with those intervals between songs, but I thought they worked really really well. The set felt so off the cuff, but at the same time incredibly polished. Cudi, on the other hand, while was one of my favorites for Saturday, was on the lower spectrum of overall favorites. It started out pretty slow, but once it got going it was a lot of fun, and I thought his set up was interesting. The crowd was also not as bad as I thought they'd be.

Yea we went to Charlotte Gainsbourg then the hot since 82 b2b for about 40 mins, so we were late to Gambino. People were flooding out to the exits, to the point it was tough to walk from Yuma to Main. Once we met our crew at Main they said Gambino was not good to that point, but I loved it from the second we arrived.

Best/Worst Yuma sets of the weekend? I have my schedule planned to the T but Sunday I basically will be in there almost all day and could use a break if any of the sets were less than spectacular....
So whats the general consensus regarding the Childish Gambino set on here? Haven't heard much...

I tried to warn r/Coachella about this when I saw him on This Is America tour (similar setlist).
Regardless of how you feel about him, I really respect the fact that he didn't rely on a bunch of guests, or do a bunch of shit covers. He's there to play his music, deep cuts and all, no matter what the crowd thinks.

Here was my schedule Friday: Ross From Friends > Los Tucanes > Turnstile > Beach Fossils > Calypso Rose > Gorgon City > Anderson Paak > Rosalia > Polo & Pan > Rufus > Janelle > Nina Kraviz > Charlotte Gainsbourg
Saturday Jambinai > Messthetics > Ty Segall > Heineken House (Pete Tong, De La Soul, The Roots) > Aphex > Parcels > Tame > Little Simz
Sunday Pusha > Men I Trust > UMO > Lizzo > YG > Nocturnal Sunshine > Khalid > Perfume > Jon Hopkins > Cirez D > Ariana Grande
I was sick the whole weekend, but for the most I had a great time. Saturday night after the Roots was kind of a wash cause I was feeling so shitty I couldn’t enjoy much, but Friday in particular was an awesome day. My favorite sets were RFF, Calypso Rose, Paak, Charlotte Gainsbourg, The Roots, Little Simz, Pusha, UMO, Lizzo, and Hopkins. Perfume and Jambinai were also great but I only saw a little bit of them.
Little Simz was incredible. You should absolutely give it a whirl if Tame doesn’t do it for you. Small crowd but she got screwed by the schedule.
Nocturnal Sunshine had like 100 people, but otherwise every show I was at either had a good crowd, or a crowd size that was reasonable given the scheduling.
Cirez D was a big disappointment. It seemed like they were having technical trouble with the lights and it was killing the vibe (felt like the house lights were on). Nina Kraviz was kinda cool, but I was absolutely not in the mood for what she was doing.
In general it seemed like there were more production glitches than you usually get at Coachella. Lizzo had some annoying fuck ups, Ty Segall was bellyaching a lot, Cirez D’s lights were booty, and a lot of the sets I didn’t go to had trouble. They need to get that shit sorted out.
Overall I thought the lineup was great. More genre diversity than I usually get from Coachella, which was great. I left most nights a little early, which was a combination of feeling like shit and the lineup not having many heavy hitters.
I’d probably rank this my second favorite after 2013.
I skipped Blood Orange and Christine & the Queens last weekend, hoping to see them this Thursday in Santa Barbara, but they just cancelled the show “due to family emergency”. For the record, there were GA tickets for $20 on Stubhub as of yesterday and event was not selling well at all.
