You can call them flags, but as someone that grew up with that being one of the first festivals I ever attended, people call those totems. And there are some like you have photos of in that photo, but you can't see them due to the massive amounts of flag totems out there. Regardless of technical terms, they are fucking annoying, but helpful for your friends to be able to find you.
I remember a guy at Music Midtown who refused to put down his sign. He even took the time to write on the back of it for us to go fuck ourselves and that we should move closer if we have such a problem with his sign blocking the view. Except we were in a really thick crowd and not everyone can move around him. He'd always be blocking someone's view.

That's it ya'll I can't take the emotional stress! Little did I know how much pain I've been causing everyone behind me at festivals I've been going to the past 4 years. As of this day henceforth, no more totems! There a scourge and a plague to the festival scene! The sooner every fest bans em the better.

You realize you can move right? Like for real, you know you don't have to stand behind someone that blocking your view right? If a tall person gets in front of me, I move. If a dude puts a chick on his shoulder to take picture, I move. You against the second row of speakers and the sound/lighting booth cuz they block your view too? LOL
