Here's my top 25. Still have to see Sleep next week but that's the only thing left that could make it on here.
The National (Shaky Knees) David Byrne (Shaky Knees) Arcade Fire (Sloss Fest) Bon Iver (Bonnaroo) St Vincent (Tabernacle) Sturgill Simpson (Bonnaroo) Johnny Marr (40 Watt Club) Fleet Foxes (Ryman) X (Masquerade) Stephen Malkmus (Georgia Theatre) Man or Astro-Man? (Athens Popfest) Deafheaven (40 Watt Club) Ty Segall (Variety Playhouse) The Breeders (Buckhead Theatre) Jack White (Bridgestone Arena) Smashing Pumpkins (Infinite Energy Center) Spoon (Buckhead Theatre) Tyler, the Creator (Infinite Energy Center) Hiss Golden Messenger (Georgia Theatre) Kikagaku Moyo (40 Watt Club) Arctic Monkeys (Coca-Cola Roxy Theater) (Sandy) Alex G (Masquerade) Anderson .Paak (Bonnaroo) - only half set or this would be higher Primus (Georgia Theatre) Brandi Carlile (Nashville City Winery)
I don't think any of my shows remaining for this year will make my top shows, so here's my list
1. Bon Iver @ Pritzker Music Pavilion in Millennium Park - Originally I just bought one ticket to this show because I wanted a close seat and for some reason thought I talked it over with my girlfriend about her not wanting to go. I fucked up, she really really wanted to go, and I was MAJORLY in the dog house because I wouldn't be able to get two close tickets together. Then a month later she won tickets that were just a little behind mine, so I sold my ticket. The show was religious, Woods as the opener fucked me up in an awesome way. It was my first time seeing him, but we'll definitely be seeing him again if we get the chance.
2. Nine Inch Nails @ Aragon Ballroom (Night 1) - I hadn't seen NIN before, they were a bucket list show. The ticket was more than I'd like to spend on a concert, but it was so worth it to check them off. I got there early through Gabe Gurnsey and Jesus And Mary Chain so I could have a close spot. The lights were so bright and intense I had to look down to the ground multiple times lol. I was definitely one of the younger people at this show, at least in my vicinity.
3. Radiohead @ United Center (Night 1) - Second time seeing them, and I definitely didn't think I'd be seeing them so soon after I saw them at Lolla a couple of years ago. I struck out on tickets multiple times for their first announced show, lucked into a GA ticket that almost got pulled from my cart for this show. I got to see my favorite Radiohead song (Reckoner) and cried because I was so happy.
4. Thom Yorke @ Chicago Theatre- Pulled up a ticket in the aisle 12 rows back in the middle, it was a great seat that was close enough to see Thom and Co, but still back enough where I got lost in the visuals quite a bit. I didn't think Thom would be playing Radiohead songs on this tour, but I got to hear Reckoner again and I was so giddy lol. Didn't get as emotional as when Radiohead played it. The show was so trippy, I forgot their were even people on stage when I was watching the visuals lol.
5. Paul Simon @ United Center - My friends and I used to drink/smoke and play Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros in school, and we'd play Paul Simon about 80% of those times. I have no idea how we started that tradition, but it got to the point where we almost bought a Paul Simon lifesize cutout for our apartment lol. My mom was also a big fan, and when his show got announced we called each other and decided we needed to see him since he's calling it quits, and my mom hadn't seen him either. We were up in the balcony, but he still sounded great and we had a fun time. He's another on the bucket list I'm glad I was able to cross off.
6. Virtual Self @ Aragon Ballroom - I'm a Porter fanboy, and I think I liked Virtual Self more than both the Shelter tour and the Worlds show I saw. My girlfriend had a lot better time than she thought she would too, a lot of drunken dancing around.
7. Gorillaz @ United Center - I surprised my brother with GA tickets for his birthday. I got to hear a lot of songs that they didn't play last year when I saw them (like Feel Good Inc), and Damon seemed like he was having so much fun on stage. My brother had a great time too, he was totally surprised when we got there so I feel like I did a good job.
8. St. Vincent @ Mo Pop Festival in Detroit - One of my best friends just moved to Detroit so this festival was a good excuse to go visit him and some family. I also saw her at Lolla, but this set was longer, I was closer, and it was actually dark for her whole set as opposed to Lolla. She fucking shreds, and her visuals were great too. I'm glad I got to see her tour her last album with a whole band as opposed to her solo, I don't think I would have liked that show nearly as much.
9. Tyler, The Creator @ Aragon Ballroom (Night 2) - Flower Boy was near the top of both mine and my girlfriends album lists when it was released, and we're also both huge Vince Staples fans so we decided we had to be there for this concert and close, even if we'd be with a lot of teenagers lol. The crowd ended up being great actually, not nearly as bad as we thought it'd be. We also saw him at Lolla, but I liked this show more because I was closer and he played longer. Tyler puts on such a great show, and it's so refreshing to see rappers who don't just let background vocals do all the work. I'll see him every time he comes through town if I can.
10. The National @ Metro (Lolla After Show) - I saw them three times in one week. Once at Mo Pop Festival, this after show at a small club, and again at Lollapalooza. This show was chilling just because we were able to be so close in a small room, I'll probably never get another chance to see them like that. Definitely glad someone who was in the fan club shared the password so I could get a ticket lol.
I'm sure Kurt Vile and Freddie Gibbs will be amazing. Fever Ray, Cut Copy, Jamiroquai, Chvrches, Jack White, Vampire Weekend, Carly Rae Jepsen, Brockhampton all were fun. Lido when he brought out Chance, Towkio, Jaden Smith and others was a nice time. Sure I'm forgetting others.

I wanna know how RW is so low and how London Grammar can be better than Nick Cave?
I wanna know how RW is so low and how London Grammar can be better than Nick Cave?
Roger Waters is so low because I just felt nothing, I felt empowered and inspired but the way it was organized (seated) was an insane factor in my enjoyment for the show. Yes, it was an insane production, it was cool to hear the Pink Floyd songs from Waters with Lucius and Jonathan Wilson backing him but what I felt after the show wasn't the extreme sadness and pain after the Amenra show or the pure joy after that Tame Impala headlining set. I'd rather never sit and watch a concert, I'd rather experience it (unless if you're going to a classical concert, that's something different in my opinion). There was no 'hype' whatsoever and it just felt like I was watching a movie.
London Grammar got a little bit higher due to the fact that we won against Brasil whilst we were watching the show, pure euphoria when the 90 minutes were over. You could feel magic in the air with sun going down aswell. Plus I was totally imerged (?) into that concert aswell, damn. Nick Cave was great but got ruined a bit by some annoying Brits who were queueing for Arctic Monkeys, litteraly to the point that they were shouting and the goddamn pit. Plus nothing will ever get better than the show of Nick Cave I saw last year, nothing.

1) Radiohead (Philadelphia, Night 2), and 2) Radiohead (Philadelphia, Night 1)- Finally saw them for the first time, and it was epic. 25 songs a night, with only 6 repeats Night 2 3) The National (Shaky Knees) - Was looking forward to this headlining set, and they delivered. Perfect way to end a great weekend. 4) David Byrne (Shaky Knees) - Probably on the list of anyone who saw them! 5) Fleet Foxes (Shaky Knees) - Still regretting not going to their late-night show... 6) Beach House (Philadelphia, Tower Theater) - Great setlist, classic old venue. 7) Jim James (New York, The Town Hall) - Intimate acoustic set was a rare treat. 8) Brandi Carlile w/ Darlingside (Philadelphia, Merriam Theater) - Brandi sings her heart out at every performance 9) Pretenders (Philadelphia, Tower Theater) - For old time's sake, but Chrissie still kicks major ass. 10 Father John Misty (Mountain Jam) - Best, most dramatic vocal performance I saw all year. Worthy of a Broadway musical lead role.
I feel like this could be my life if I lived in Chicago instead of Indianapolis. Great list!

Oh, it could definitely be a whole lot worse. But particularly in terms of bigger acts that don't tour frequently, we probably play fifth or sixth banana to cities like Chicago, Detroit, the big Ohio cities and even Louisville when they're planning tour routes through the Midwest.
Got to a bunch of shows this year and had a really tough time narrowing my list to 10, but:
1. Vampire Weekend @ Lollapalooza Aftershow at the Metro in Chicago 2. The Killers@ The Anthem in DC 3. David Byrne @ The Anthem in DC 4. John Mayer @ Bourbon & Beyond in Louisville 5. U2 @ Capital One Arena in DC 6. Anderson Paak @ Sasquatch festival at the Gorge 7. Chic & Nile Rodgers @ Wolf Trap in Virginia 8. The XX @ 930 Club in DC 9. Alvvays @ 930 Club in DC 10. Car Seat Headrest @ 930 Club in DC

1. Bruce Springsteen @ Walter Kerr Theatre, New York, NY - In my top 5 shows ever probably. It felt like the guy was playing in your living room. Took the already personal connection I have to a lot of his music and made it even stronger. Just unbelievable. 2. David Byrne @ Fox Theatre, Atlanta, GA - Not much that hasn't been said here about his shows. Improved on the Shaky Knees set I saw of his. 3. Bon Iver (set 2) @ Bonnaroo - I'm not hugely familiar with his discography (which I should be don't @ me) but I think Justin Vernon is one of the most talented/interesting people in music right now, so the 90-minutes-of-do-whatever-the-fuck-you-want was perfect for me. 4. Injury Reserve @ Masquerade (Purgatory), Atlanta, GA - If you're a hip-hop fan and haven't caught onto IR or their live shows yet, fix that. Small crowd but didn't stop them from putting everything they had into it. I had also just overcome what was at best a bad fever and at worst walking pneumonia, so the whole thing felt like a fever dream in the best way possible. 5. Nine Inch Nails (night 2) @ Fox Theatre, Atlanta, GA - Despite I'm Afraid of Americans continuing to elude me (neither night in ATL, seemingly the only city on the tour that that happened in), night 2 of NINATL picked up right where they left off the night before. I had never heard them do Terrible Lie either, so the Now I'm Nothing->Terrible Lie opener was probably the highlight of the two nights for me. Hearing Survivalism, the first NIN song I ever knew, for the first time was great too. 6. Wu-Tang Clan @ A3C Festival, Atlanta, GA - Wu are THE reason I'm into hip-hop as much as I am these days and this was my first time seeing them. While it wasn't the best show I've ever seen, a bucket list act if there ever was one and it was impossible to wipe the smile off my face the whole time or the day after. 36 Chambers front to back? Come on. 7. Death Grips @ Afropunk Festival, Atlanta, GA - If you know, you know. Death Grips puts on a show like pretty much none other these days and this was no different. Beware opener was immense and if there's a better closing song than No Love, let me know. 8. Sleep @ Variety Playhouse, Atlanta, GA - SPEAKING of immense, good lord. I only started listening to Sleep when they put out The Sciences earlier this year but jumped at the chance to see them when they announced their ATL shows. I've never seen a 3-piece band come even close to the level of power they were at. An absolute onslaught for 90 minutes. 9. Queens of the Stone Age @ Shaky Knees, Atlanta, GA - Another bucket list act checked off. If I Had A Tail was a great opener and touched on pretty much everything I wanted to hear. A Song For The Dead was 10 minutes of absolute hard rock nirvana to shut things down. 10. Tyler, the Creator & Vince Staples @ Infinite Energy Arena, Duluth, GA - Two of the top-tier performers in hip-hop. Went more for Vince, but also had no clue that Tyler had the star power he does now and it's so cool to see him evolve into a legit arena headliner.
Honorable Mentions: Travis Scott @ State Farm Arena, Atlanta, GA - Didn't expect this to be so high but between extremely entertaining production, setlist with some deeper cuts I figured he'd have forgotten about, and (as with Tyler) the novelty of seeing him as an arena headliner gives him a spot here. John Butler Trio @ Tabernacle, Atlanta, GA - Had been years since I'd seen JBT and forgot how god damn good his shows are. The addition of extra percussionists/keyboards/vocalists gave them a nice, fuller sound too. JPEGMAFIA @ Aisle 5, Atlanta, GA/Globe Hall, Denver, CO/Variety Playhouse, Atlanta GA - Peggy is my rap rookie of the year. I know he isn't actually a rookie, but whatever. The three opening sets I saw from him this year were scintillating.

1) Christmas Jam * - US Cellular Center, Asheville NC, 12/8 2) David Byrne - Shaky Knees, Atlanta GA, 5/4 3) Fleet Foxes - Variety Playhouse, Atlanta GA, 5/5 4) The Flaming Lips - The Orange Peel, Asheville NC, 3/9 5) Umphrey's Mcgee - US Cellular Center, Asheville NC, 2/17 6) Big Boi - Salvage Station, Asheville NC, 6/3 7) Primus - Highland Brewery, Asheville NC, 9/26 8) Greensky Bluegrass - Salvage Station, Asheville NC, 10/4 9) Mac Demarco - The Grey Eagle, Asheville NC, 11/18 10) Keller Williams Grateful Grass - Salvage Station, Asheville NC, 4/28
* Probably not fair to have the whole night of Christmas Jam to be included as a show, difficult though to narrow it down to a particular set. From Warren Haynes opening up the night with Soulshine, Jim James set, Eric Church and Warren playing Atlantic City and The Weight, and Dave Grohl & Warren playing Times Like These + Dave doing Everlong acoustic. It was quite the evening.
I might do Prydz at the end of the month but I think this is basically it for the year.
