Billie Eilish’s music is good but I don’t like her edgy image or persona which makes it kind of hard for me to like her as an artist overall. Hope she grows out of it.
Plus I kinda lose a lot of respect for anyone who pays tribute to/endorses X (looking at you Kendrick).
i'm listening to Billie Eilish for the first time, anybody want to make the case for her?
i haven't formed an opinion yet. i am intrigued though.
I think her music is incredibly catchy and captures the zeitgeist of the current young generation very well. Bass-heavy yet melodic and minimalist, catchy but speaking directly about moody and dark subjects. I agree that her edginess can tapdance on cringey at times, but I mean, she's 17. Most 17 y/os are pretty cringey, but regardless she has a strong brand that certainly works for her.
I find her debut album to be incredibly listenable, and it's quickly become a go-to when I don't know what else to put on. Honestly I'd just listen to it straight through once and that should tell you everything you need to know about her. Either way, I think she has some serious staying power and is going to be around for a long time.
I was talking to my cousin (21) telling him he should listen to Jenny Hval, he asked what it was and I said dark-weird-electro pop, and he goes "oh like billie ellish with an actual edge?"
I think Eilish's persona/clothes make her more 'dark/mysterious' than she actually is and I don't see what's so special about her music at all. Her whisper-singing is also annoying asf.

I haven't been able to make Frank Ocean click yet. Every time I try to listen I'm just not into it.
Sidenote does anyone have tips for when I should buy a resale ticket for a show? I wanna go to The National/Courtney Barnett on Monday but don't wanna pay $45 for it. However I'm not finding anything on stubhub less than that (which is face value). The show isn't sold out.

Usually tickets are cheapest just before the show when people are trying to minimize their losses

Cool, I'll probably just wait til Monday to grab one. I've never bought a resale ticket before so I wasn't sure. Thanks!
