Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
Anybody think that they look at those survey suggestions?
I think they do, it's good direct information straight from your most dedicated fans. Having said that 100 surveys requesting The Chemical Brothers isn't going to move the needle on Roo paying their booking fee, but 5,000 requesting Travis Scott might, or at the very least confirm that continuing to have a pop or hip hop headliner is a good idea.
Also I'm sure all the brand awareness stuff helps them recruit or retain sponsors.
And the awareness of non main stage or tent activities and participation therein helps determine if it is worth their time to grow those activities.
So they might not be basing their whole booking strategy on the surveys, but I'm sure it provides beneficial information.

I went ahead and just clicked that I recognized and used every corporate partner. That data is definitely valuable in a renewal pitch, and Bonnaroo is only asking those questions to retain partners. They probably want your honesty when it comes to campground activities, but not the partnerships.

Do yall think Bonnaroo will ever expand to a full 4 days similar to Lollapalooza? IIRC that happened for Lolla's 20th anniversary a couple years back but has since remained a full four day festival. I would welcome that change if Roo ever decided to give it a try, with What and Which closed on Thursday it can make the tent shows super crowded. On the other hand it's kind of nice to start with a more chill day. This year worked out having a good Thursday lineup but the last few years were a little too thin.

IIRC a year or two back some of the guys from Roo (might have been Capps and Farman themselves) did an AMA on Reddit and more or less said directly that they'll never expand to four days. Things change obviously but I'll see if I can find the link.

i like the way Roo does Thursday. nice way to ease into the weekend without feeling a bunch of pressure to get pit or a good spot for a big What headliner. the downside of course is crowding in tents. not sure if roo would ever do it because of the expense of booking and staffing, but even if they opened the Which up from 6-12 on Thursday it would spread things out quite a bit. would take about another 4 acts. they could open the Which stage every year with the Grand Ole Opry at 6pm, people could chill out in the field if they want and listen, which is what they were doing around That Tent anyway.
Q: Hey there, I'll be returning for my third Bonnaroo this year, and I just want to congratulate you and your team on putting together what just might be my favorite festival lineup I've ever attended!
So, my question: People keep showing up earlier every year, and by Thursday, there's a very healthy crowd. That's a lot of fun, but with only the three tents (+ the small stages) running, it has gotten very crowded by Thursday evening. Are you considering opening the Which Stage on Thursday evening? It would help a lot with the congestion, especially with those buzz bands like Alt-J or Alabama Shakes that commanded staggeringly large crowds in the last few years.
A: Thanks for the support of the festival. This is a good thought. We don't currently have any plans to use the Which Stage on Thursday. Thursday has always been about putting focus on the up and coming acts and we don't think that using the Which Stage would work well with that concept. We also like that not having the whole venue open keeps a certain amount of energy in the campgrounds that night but we will continue to think about ways we can make the flow in Centeroo as best as possible to address it for Thursday and throughout the weekend. - RF

and it's hard to see the benefit to Roo in expanding Thursday to a full day. let's say they start selling out every year again with Thursday as is, there is no need to add value since the asking price of tickets is apparently worth the product they are currently offering. and if they stop selling out would adding a thursday what headliner be worth the cost to try and push people to buy more tickets?
even with just the two tents/other stage going on Thursday, people are still in centeroo buying beer and food and shit. would putting a headliner on the What increase beer and food and shit sales to the point where it exceeds the expense of doing so? i guess you could argue that having a big name on what thursday would get more people away from their camp sites and into centeroo, but at least subjectively centeroo still seems plenty popular on thursday without it.
i imagine after all these years roo has their costs down to a science, and have studied whether expanding thursday would increase the bottom line.

I had rail (on the sides) for Nude Party, Comet is Coming and Sunsquabi. I was expecting WAY worse crowds after attempting to watch Grand Ole Opry and not having a decent line of sight at all.
Personally I like Thursday the way it is. The crowds are fine and not unbearable.
being honest with myself my favorite shows of thursday (RBCF and Comet) both had easy crowds. even Eprom at Other was easy to get a good spot for (honestly Other was pretty easy all weekend).
Would be very down with them opening up the Which on Thursday but not having a Which "headliner" per say. Open with Grand Ole Opry, put up a couple other artists that have the right vibe for that stage, maybe something on the jammier side to close it out
We came in on Thursday, arrived at the farm around 1-1:30ish. The traffic/search guy told us that over 75% of the attendees arrived sometime on wednesday/wednesday night. he had been doing traffic stuff with roo for a few years and said that a lot of the traffic problems were due to so many people showing up Wednesday this year and them not really expecting such high numbers. They originally started letting people in on Wednesday in previous years so that there would be a longer "arrival window" and hence thin traffic, but with everyone showing up on Wednesday, it sorta became moot (paraphrasing what he told us). If a large majority of people are showing up on Wednesday now, I'd think they'd need some more programming on Thursday to spread the crowd out. This year Thursday didn't seem too crowded at all, but I know in years past some shows were just slammed with people.

I'm fine with Bonnaroo keeping Thursday as it is. I love that it's a day to discover up and coming acts.
If they were to expand, I think having one mid tier act to "headline" The Which could work. Have an act that would have otherwise be playing a midday Which show play around 8 to help draw some of the crowds away from the tents.
However, the cost of operating The Which Stage for only a couple hours makes no logical sense, so I get why it doesn't operate until Friday.

I like Thursday being the way it is. Call it development in my growth with music but my first two Roos were being excited for big name mainstream indie acts but the magic of Roo isn't who will be there, it's about DISCOVERING all of the amazing music out there.
While we're talking Thursday, let's throw out some Thursday artist wish lists
Mine as of right now:
black midi Shame Ibibio Sound Machine Megan Thee Stallion Orville Peck The Babe Rainbow Drugdealer Fontaines D.C. Black Belt Eagle Scout CHAI Liz Cooper & The Stampede

I think by next Roo Megan will be too big for Thursday.. but I'm bad at judging the popularity of artists. Rico Nasty or Tierra Whack would be dope too. Don't know if these acts would fit Thurs either but some others I'd love-
Hinds or Duckwrth would be cool again, they both played Who last time they were at Roo. Why? The Garden The Soft Moon Snail Mail Middle Kids Electric Octopus Junglepussy Overcoats Goth Babe Yoke Lore Yheti
Leikeli47 Hudson Taylor Earthgang JID and JPEGMAFIA might be too big for Thursday esp for next year, but I can't imagine they're too much bigger than Saba.

These acts are so 2019 festival circuit, but hoping they can do the classic "bonnaroo 1 year late" move on a couple of Parcels, JPEGMAFIA, Tierra Whack, Shame, Idles and still just throw some of them on Thursday.

Actually should work out where most of those should have new albums out next year

sounds like the new bonnaroo is "right on time". it's almost like they can see into the future with perfect eyesight.
