What major festival did the xx headline? They headlined Panorama and some stuff like that, but they were touring on I See You when that happened, anyway.
Tame Impala headlined Coachella because the headliner dropped out, although this is the best example of the three. I suppose they didn't have a new album, but they did have two new songs and played SNL, so they had new material that helped elevate them.
Not sure about Gambino either. He has pretty much been headlining since Awaken came out. This is America also helped vault him more solidly into headliner status.
I just don't think it would happen with Lorde unless she had new material. There's not really any reason to think she's a great deal more popular now than she was in 2017.
So we're just gonna pit RHCP and dump on Foo Fighters then? Interesting.
I like the music about the same but RHCP is undoubtedly more musically talented. Can’t really think of a Foo Fighters song where I’m legitimately impressed by the playing.

Foo Fighters do some corny dad-rock stuff, but they have some truly classic songs and were good when I saw them at ACL. They'd be a good headliner but if they were the best headliner that might be a bit disappointing to me.

It’d be a fun set but I worry that they would be the “legacy” act and they’d be paired with Travis Scott and Billie or something.

Foos > RHCP personally, but neither move the needle much on my end. The Cure would be very cool but unlikely, Springsteen ideal and slightly more likely

I’m a staunch Coldplay defender and they would be a lot of fun, but they’re probably about the same cost as U2 and I feel like a lot of their fan base is people who don’t come to festivals (moms and tweens).
