The first year I went with my dad. He got lost and for some reason called my mom. Guess he didn't want to tell me he got lost. Mom called me.
Hearing these stories from you guys makes me feel a little bit better about my fascination (fixation? obsession?) with knowing locations, directions, the time, etc.. I think I'm a little bit of a freak about it, but I almost always know exactly where I am and where I'm going. I can't tell you how many family gatherings have included my grandpa and I (and sometimes others) looking at maps to figure out exactly where Such and Such Street or some tiny town is.
Bonnaro (and any event of the same scale) is confusing AF to noobs, and even regulars, so I feel proud to say I've never gotten lost there, and steered my group in the right direction the first time we went. Our first year, it took a minute for me to get my bearings, and the scale of everything was hard to wrap my mind around - it was indeed a sea of tents, and cars, and people... but we all survived, thankfully. I like to think it was because I studied the map ahead of time, haha.

You are a man after my own heart. I have a built in compass in my head and have never been lost as long as I have one landmark. Now that I've claimed that Bonnaroo will be enveloped in a thick fog this year and I'll have to eat my words. I sure hope they are chocolate flavored.
One of the weirdest things I saw was a guy wearing overalls and a work apron standing on a stepladder with an empty bucket and brush trying to paint the sky.

Same here.. I have this wonderful gift of knowing where I am in relation to where i need to be and am coming from. I have never lost my tent at Bonnaroo and could be dropped anywhere on the Farm and be able to get to the Arch within 30 minutes. Gotta love having a compass in my head and a semi photographic memory.
Anyways, my coolest/weirdest story happened in 2016 During Pearl Jam. a fwe years prior, my Brother in Law died from a self inflicted gunshot. He is now at Peace. He was a HUGE pearl jam fan. Part of the Ten Fan club. My wife made her Bonnaroo Debut that year with me just for the PJ show. we were in my fav spot in the What field just totally and soberly soaking it in. Lots of tears during the show (and now as i write). Towards the end During Better Man I believe, my wife and I feel this RUSH of wind come by us as if someone just went sprinting past really quickly. We look around and there is noting of the sort, just people enjoying the show seemingly oblivious to what we just felt. we looked at each other and both believe it was his spirit letting us know he had been with us for the show.
In 2008 I shared a campsite with two friends. I didn't want to disturb them in the tent so I slept on an air mattress in the bed of my truck. The next morning I woke to my toes being tickled by a woman dressed as little red riding hood. She had a basket full of edibles and was offering them (not selling). I was a tad paranoid about them so kindly told her no thanks and she skipped off through the tent city. When my friends woke up we were eating breakfast and i told them about little red riding hood. The neighbors heard me and immediately stated asking which way she went. From my understanding she was known for going to campsites each year offering her goods. Also that year I ran across a huge tent setup and a guy in a chair outside was allowing entrance for $5. When you went in there were four young women giving lap dances.
