A Southside is a more well-known cocktail which is the same except that it skips the muddled cucumber. But if they don't have cucumber and you get a Southside with Hendricks, there ya go.
as far as like, standard cocktails go whats everyones fave? i always go for a good gin and tonic personally
I've been drinking a lot of maple bourbon sours - like 1.5 parts bourbon to 1 part maple syrup and 1 part lime juice, shaken over ice and poured neat.
Otherwise I am usually a Jameson on the rocks guy, unless it's a scotch night (Islay, the peatier the better, but also don't mind blendeds like fancier Johnnie Walker stuff).
gin and tonic with beefeater or tanqueray usually. i like it take taste like a christmas tree.
more often though i drink margaritas. wife doesnt like gin and we don't really like to keep a ton of liquor around the house, but we usually have a bottle of cazadores stuck in the wine cabinet
Just vodka on the rocks or vodka seltzer, no fruit. I'm a mixologist's worst nightmare. I don't really like many mixers and citrus gives me heartburn. The only others I'll consider are cosmo-ish martinis and Moscow Mules.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Gin and tonics used to be my jam man. Miss that delicious evergreen crispness. But in the winter of 2008 I fell down a set of stairs at Auntie Mae's (Dad Dog knows exactly which set of stairs I am talking about here, I'm sure), and slipped on ice in heels, splitting the entire side of my favorite 50's style dress and now I don't mess with liquor too much. Makes me klutzy and I lose my shoes and clothes. Boring.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Combine in an ice filled shaker. Shake and strain into an ice filled rocks glass.
(For the reduction, just pour some balsamic into a small saucepan and bring to a simmer. Reduce by half. It thickens as it cools so pour it into a container while still hot.)

Delicious Meatball Sub are you making any pies today? Your brunch pie still has yet to be unseated as the best pie I've ever had.
Brunch pie? My mind is racing with possibilities.
I love making shrub, albeit a little different from the one above. 2 parts vinegar, 1 part sugar, and fruit of your choice. My preferred fruit is the triple berry blend from Costco. Heat the vinegar up enough to dissolve the sugar into it, muddle the berries in it, and pop it into a jar then stick it in the fridge for a month or two, let the particulate drop out. Use it as a mixer to whatever, I like it with some club and vodka.

It was a berry pie (forget what kind, maybe blackberry???) served at brunch

This actually sounds amazing.
Just finished making myself one. It’s not the best looking drink but the end product kinda looks like Coca-Cola.
I wish I still had some Meyer lemons. Feel like their juice would be even better in this.
My go to is also a gin and tonic. If I'm at home though and I want a drink, I usually have a campari soda or just bourbon on the rocks.
Btw if anyone has any bourbon recs let me know. Decently priced preferred but I'll listen to whatever you have to recommend.
I drink a fair bit of bourbon and my current favorite is Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. It's not cheap but it's not outrageous and it's dangerously smooth. It's a step up from Distiller's Select which is the base Woodford. Like 55 bucks for a 750 ml. I think DS is more like 35 or 40.
Jim Beam Black, Maker's for mid-shelf. Ole Grand Dad is what most decent bars here use for well if they don't use Maker's, so I'd do that or regular Beam for a bourbon to just have on-hand that's less expensive.

Evan Black is so much better than Jim at that price

Yeah Evan Williams isn't too bad, almost mentioned it. Idk if I'd recommend it over Beam though, personally.
I wouldn't either. Evan Black and Green are not much above Ten High level IMHO (unless you get the red label). We visited their museum thing in Louisville, and it was easily the worst of the 3 distilleries we went to and had the worst whiskeys. Beam White is superior to all the generic Evans in the store though they do have some decent special batch shit.
As for double-oaked, that can either be accidental or intentional. Woodford double-oaked, mentioned above, is apparently aged in two different barrels with different char levels. It will also refer to a batch where the liquid contents have to be moved out of one barrel into another due to leakage or too much seepage or whatever.

I've yet to be disappointed in a bourbon that costs at least $40/bottle, but if you've never had Michter's, give their bourbon a try.
Yeah, them and Russell's are good for the mid-grade pricing. For the cheap shit, I like Buffalo Trace the best. Angel's Envy, Heaven's Door, Widow Jane in the next tier are all good. I only had Widow Jane once, and some people were hating on it because it was from Brooklyn and overhyped like Pappy Van Winkle is said to be overhyped. But for the price it was pretty excellent. Main thing to do Cookin' Mama is to experiment with different bourbons and see what you get out of them. You'll learn some of the smell and taste notes can vary from tobacco to leather to wood/oak to cherries, vanilla, toffee, caramel or whatever. Also, if you don't know, learn the terms and what they mean for when you're browsing - Rye, Bourbon, Whiskey, Tennessee Whiskey, Sour Mash, Double Oaked, Bottled in Bond, Special Reserve, Single Barrel, Small Batch, Cask Strength, etc.
For slightly stronger Bourbons and slightly pricier, we toured Peerless in Louisville which was my favorite distillery tour and tasting. Most of their stuff is in the 104-106 proof level so stronger than your typical 80 or 85 proof bourbon. We got 5 tastes at Peerless, and their double-oaked and single barrel were both delicious. Single barrels will never be the same as usually those are selected for unique flavor characteristics or profile, nose or color. You'll not get that again unless you have another bottle from that specific barrel.

i ordered a large amount of Starburst Jellybeans and they were supposed to arrive last friday but they never did. So I had to go through the weekend without Starburst Jellybeans. Sitting at work now and just got notification that the Starburst Jellybeans were delivered, but I won't be home for another four hours. I should have had them delivered to work so I could have them now.

Basil Hayden might be the best bourbon for me per-pricepoint. Similar in price to the Distiller's Select Woodford, probably slightly better and more drinkable. Slipped my mind before.

They do have Peeps which are pretty bad. But since Halloween has the orange and black wrapped peanut butter taffy, that’s hard to lose to. I like chocolate eggs and gold brick eggs but I’m not too big on chocolate rabbits even though I love chocolate. Valentines has some good ones too if you’re willing to pay. Reese’s Easter Eggs are good.
