I love chickpeas when made into things like hummus or crispy-ized, but really not a big fan of them whole inside things like salads. They are too firm. Beyond that, I find most of them interchangeable (as long as we are talking basic beans and not things like coffee beans).
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I guess it's more of a preparation but shoutout to refried beans. Rice and beans are the most essential aspect of any Tex-Mex restaurant. If those aren't good I'm out.

Here's some grub I got at Roo. Jambalaya + smoked sausage + a side of hush puppies. The cajun place over at left Which. Most of the good food I had was over there. Also got a lobster roll (28 dollars) in that strip and I think that's where Hattie B's was. The jambalaya came with two hush puppies. Wasn't sure but definitely wanted some so I ended up with a side order of eight. Managed to give most of them away to Inforoo people, because I was stuffed.
soybeans! tofu based stuff, and bhatmas is is an incredible nepalese dish
went to a nepalese restaurant in barcelona this year and they didn't have bhatmas on the menu. i asked if he could make it and dude was laughing that some white dude would ask for it. stopped by my table prolly 5 times checking in on me while i tried not to die from the spice.
Coworker was hyping up the return of McDonald's breakfast bagels sandwiches Just tried one and it was pretty gross. Not a fan of the sauce they use.
1 year down of working in the Loop and still haven't found a decent breakfast bagel sandwich walking distance from me.
We finally got one. A pastry chef who grew up in CT and went to college in Brooklyn wanted better bagels here than the run of the mill shit you can get anywhere. They were a pop-up but opened the store last year. I still haven't been but it's not very far from my house - just not in a spot where I ever am passing by. One of the local paper's restaurant writers (from NYC) recently took a bunch of New Yorkers there, and he reported they all loved it and have begrudgingly come to understand that not only New York has great bagels anymore.
How are Mister Oso and A5 Japanese Steakhouse? Some local chef partnered up with the Denver conglomerate to open both of those here later in the year.
Mister Oso is p good. I actually took Jake Jortles and Cookin' Mama there cause its down the street from me. Never been to A5
Nice. It looks pretty good on the menu and in photos. So I'll make sure to try them out. A5 looks hella expensive though I'd be down to try it. All my kids love Blue Pan when they are in Denver. I still need to get out there which will probably be next year instead of this one.
Aldi's is buying out Winn Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets. Winn Dixie is a few blocks from my house, so we do shop there pretty often along with Rouse's and Latino grocer, Ideal Market. They have a couple of Aldi's here already, but none of them are convenient for me, so I haven't ever gone. Seems like I remember reading that they are known for decent produce prices, including organic. But they also supposedly have a lot of pre-packaged type stuff. Anyone have any good or negative opinions on this German grocery chain?
I love Aldi. The "downside" is that it's not huge so there's not crazy selection. Like if you want to try an interesting new marinara, not your place. Also, for most things, it's their own brands, so if you are dedicated to your yogurt brand, also not your place. It's my go to for the average grocery trip. I sprinkle in a "regular" grocery once a month or so to get things I might not be able to get there (plus Asian markets). Oh yeah, and the veggies are all packaged, so not great for the environment and also not great if you were looking just to get one pepper. Too bad, you're getting three.
I like their brand in most things. Vegetables are usually fresh and plentiful. Great prices. Rotating "isle of shame" items that I have bought everything from coloring books to tables to bathroom mats in.

"ALDI will operate Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores with the same level of care and focus on quality and service, as we also evaluate which locations will convert to the ALDI format to better support the neighborhoods we'll now have the privilege of serving," added Hart. "For those stores we do not convert, our intention is that these continue to operate as Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores."

I think the one by my house is most likely to stay a WD. But there are a bunch of others around that probably will be transitioned. I’ll go visit one eventually if ours stays the same.
