there is a bright side, the recipe starts with caramelizing shredded cabbage in a pan. loads of butter, three tablespoons of molasses, cook on medium for ~20 minutes. cooked down to this sweet and delicious side dish, but still had that cabbage crunch. very good, and i will be doing this again in the future.
I think people sleep on cabbage and they shouldn't. A bag of coleslaw mix and pretty much any flavor profile is a quick, easy win. My two favorites are sauteed and then mixed with pesto (and then add tomatoes, etc.) or raw, but with peanut sauce (and then add red peppers, etc.). You can make a simple dish in no time, or with a tad more effort, an even better one.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Cottage pie
Also re: VA/NC wines, they definitely have some world class stuff, I live in the SVAVA. Our climate is perfect for grapes; limestone soil, rain shadow, and hot days, cool nights.

I’m going to try to dig in on some of them but I’m thinking most of the good stuff either stays there or is mail order only.

Took a little trip to Atlanta to see Stop Making Sense today, and we went to one of our favorite places from when we lived there, Fat Matt’s Rib Shack. Ribs, mac and cheese, collard greens, and rum baked beans. That’s the only place where I will just dip plain white bread in the sauce and eat it.
Hey piggy pablo, is there anything worth eating near Bayou Music Center? We won't want to do anything fancy as I'll be in jeans and a t-shirt. Not sure where we are staying yet which would be somewhere in that general area for one night on 11/2. But I'd have a car. I looked at Big Casino, and it's not quite what I wanted although I liked their cocktail menu. I'd be good with any range from Texas, Tex-Mex, Mexican authentico, Asian, Fusion or just good shit. I did love that local chain place we ordered Mexican from during Day for Night that you said was okay.

As far as right nearby, Treebeard's is a couple blocks away. It's Southern food so not gonna blow your mind probably, but I've heard good things. The Post HTX building where they used to have DFN has a food hall in it that would give you some more variety. It's not too far from there either.
I wish the Best Ever Food Review fuck would get eaten instead. I might consider to watch that one. But how the fuck are these chump ass algorithms going to recommend 3 of his videos simultaneously when I have 100% boycotted that shit since it first showed up years ago. It would be one thing if they’d let you block channels. Dickheads. And lately I’ve been getting low-budget recommendations from I think this dong is called Good Mythical Morning. “We tried every canned biscuit.” You didn’t try enough in school. I didn’t either. But I don’t know how to tell you I don’t give a fuck other than to say I’m not clicking for any reason ever. They look like they would probably be worse, but they can join Hot Ones, Four Levels, Food Wishes (would be fine if someone else narrated besides John) and We tried the most expensive steak at Texas Roadhouse couple. People can like what they want to, but I’m never clicking any of this. The app should be smart enough to know that if it annoys me, I’m just going to a different app to watch something else.
Shitty food day for me. It was drizzly and I had to run home so I hit the building’s Subway for the second time in 3+ years and got the sweet teriyaki onion chicken with bells spinach tomatoes a little red onion and bagged avocado mush. And black pepper. C bought some blue bag Doritos so I put some on my sandwich for more crunch than I’d get from the toasted bread or vegetables.
After work I got home to be told I got you Chicken Filet but they fucked up the order so I didn’t get you Chicken Filet. That was okay since i ate two of them last couple of days and had a fucked up stomach that forced me to miss Snarky Puppy. I got two heat lamp pieces of wing at the store which were bbq sauce and maybe teriyaki and had some boiled corn on the cob and left over mashed potatoes and gravy. All that’s okay but today was payday. Maybe if it wasn’t so shitty I’d have done something else.

I do watch a lot of the Good Mythical Morning things when I can't sleep in the middle of the night, but it's more of the Rhett and Link videos rather than the sporked stuff. I saw one or two where Sporked was a guest. I didn't even realize it was an arm of their company until I looked it up right now. I don't really know anything about the Sporked food stuff, but I do love me some Rhett and Link.

I don't know about their other content, but I have refused to click on Link's stuff when his face is making a big surprise look. I get it. People buy a lot of processed foods to cook, and someone is going to care that someone else tried all the canned biscuits so the rest of us don't have to. But I really, really, really hate pushed content (OCD shit for me) and don't like fake surprise faces about whatever's being demonstrated or tried. Similarly I try to avoid clicking on anything that says We went fishing but never expected THIS or whatever. I have long hated people selling me shit and certainly heart/emotion-tug advertising which is likely why I hate Republicanism so much. For the More Best Ever guy, I'm not ever going to click on anything that pops up. I don't really care about his world travels or that he eats whales or spends $2k at a ballpark to try all their food. The only adjacent stuff to this kind of content that I watch are Tribal People Try, Irish People Try and lots of recipes. I've been digging a lot of Arnietex's Tex-Mex demos, but I haven't tried to cook anything he's done yet.

Yeah I love Josh from Mythical, he's crazy knowledgeable and super funny. I also don't watch *every* one of their videos, gotta pick and choose. Def more entertainment than education though

I agree, more entertainment that education for sure. I saw Josh as a guest on another channel doing a quiz show type thing and he KILLED it.
And for what it's worth, I don't "click" on anything. I just navigate to watch and let the algorithms do their thing. So I don't even see the thumbnails and have no idea what they look like. But those stupid faces and such are proven to get the clicks which is why companies do them. I saw the Try Guys talk about how Keith and his big mouth have proven to be the best for them.

Arnietex, drunken migos, and the vulgar chef are my fave online cooking folks.
Arnie is great. His mom will roll her eyes on him when she’s on because he deviates from her recipes sometimes. Mattie annoys me too much. It’s like trying to watch Cramer. Just way too adhd and makes me nervous though I will watch Isaac Toups sometimes from the Munchies family. Sip and Feast puts out a lot of really easy stuff that I like to adapt on.

Same thing deto said about why everything has to be stunning, Jaw-dropping, ridiculous, unbelievable, etc. I’m way the minority, but that shit turns me off.
According to Google, Joey Chestnut ate 47 grilled-cheese sandwiches in 10 minutes and holds the world record.
According to RecordSetter, Takeru Kobayashi set the record for 13 eaten in 1 minute at SXSW in 2012.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest grilled cheese sandwich was made by Cabot Creamery out of Vermont in 2000 which was 1.52/3.05/6.35 meters down in Everglades City, Florida.

the grilled cheese cookoff was a really nice event and a lot of fun. great turnout, beautiful early fall weather. i did not eat 20 full grilled cheese sandwiches but i ate lots of bites. they also had ice cream if you needed more dairy. everybody was in a good mood, i guess something about eating a bunch of grilled cheeses makes you feel like a kid.
i didn't have a single bad bite of food, they were all good in their own way, although i mentally docked a few points for people who threw korean beef or whole pieces of candied bacon in there. delicious but made it less of a grilled cheese. but even that aside my two favorites were both mexican inspired and featured jalapeno which elevated the sandwich without taking away from the cheese. one was from a local restaurant, the other some local high school kids. i gave my vote to the high school kids because it's where my mom went to high school. plus i thought it was sweet this group of high school kids came up with an idea and showed up downtown on a school night and participated in this.
anyway if you have the opportunity to attend a grilled cheese cookoff you should.
Last month, I got invited to a blind pizza taste test thing at work. I even came in on a WFH day because I was excited for it. It was fun, but I would have definitely done it differently.
They chose three pizzas from three different pizza places: a cheese, a pepperoni, and a specialty. Then you could vote for your fave in each category. They asked each place to cut small, but there's no way I could eat 9 slices of pizza for lunch. So I think they went a little crazy on the types of pizza. They also chose drastically different styles: Greek, New Haven, and the third a bit more like a NY-style. Most people probably voted on their favorite style rather than the "best". I'm inspired to make something similar happen at some point, but to get all of one style of pizza and type of topping. A true competition!
