Thanksgiving was hurried this year by work, but still managed a decent spread. Orange and sage turkey breast, pumpkin rolls, sweet potato casserole with cornflakes and pecans that were tossed in butter, sugar, and cinnamon then toasted, homemade cranberry sauce with orange, rosemary, and sage to complement the turkey, and a tarte au cannaberge! Stuffing and gravy too, obviously.
^^ nice. We just did a family dinner of severral roasted veggies with some Italian sausage, a bottom round in the rotisserie and some shrimp and andouille stuffing along with French bread and mushroom au jus I made. Tastes more like Sunday than Monday.
sunday supper failure. this chili was nasty. too sweet. i won't make it again but if i could turn back time i wouldn't include the cinnamon, cloves, maple syrup, or unsweetened cocoa powder. we each ate a bowl but then threw the rest away. very disappointing, otherwise it had a great flavor but the awful sweetness ruined it.
i also didn't use the beer but i doubt that had too much of an effect on the sweetness.
kind of a beautiful article about french people eating krispy kreme for the first time. maybe beautiful is too strong a word but i'm a sucker for food as a force for unity. how a bite of good food can make everything else fade away into the background.
At the opening on Wednesday, a D.J. thumped out dance music to the waiting crowd. A red carpet adorned the entrance, while the company’s mascot — a doughnut — bobbled alongside workers handing out fresh glazed goodies to eager patrons.
Miguel Calic-Cuere spent the night in front of the store with dozens of fans eager to secure a good place in line. “I hardly slept because it was so cold,” said the 20-year-old student, who kept warm by taking short walks and making friends in the growing crowd. Waiting for the opening “was a moment of solidarity for all of us,” he exclaimed. When the doors finally opened, he found himself the lucky winner of a free box of a dozen Krispy Kremes each month for the next year.
Celia Lea Amarouche, 19, and Marie Besson, 28, were ready to open their wallets after seeing Krispy Kreme cameos in American TV shows that they had watched to improve their English, including “The Simpsons” and popular crime shows. Seeing Kylie Jenner dig into Krispy Kreme doughnuts on TikTok sealed the deal, Ms. Besson said.

As someone who would eat one glazed from there but who also thinks most of their varieties aren't very good, I wonder what would happen if a decent donut (deauxnut?) shop opened in Paris - even if it was a chain. You'd think there would be dozens if not hundreds of them in Paris already. This isn't to play the local card more than to just say that Krispy Kreme really isn't all that great in 2023.

yeah the only thing really worth eating from KK is an OG hot original glazed. but that one thing is iconic IMO. gotta eat it immediately, or in the car on the way home, when it's so burning hot and sticky you almost get in a wreck, and it feels so good to eat you are worried about a cop pulling you over.
but 95% of the time when i want a donut i go to a kolache place. ours is called Lickn Good and it's awesome.

It's wild how some US fast food catches on. I saw a massive line for KFC in Milan, so I googled Taco Bell (looking for that combination pizza hut KFC taco bell) but the nearest one was in Spain

Unpopular food opinion, I don't like crab or lobster. Fried fish(cod, catfish, nondescript white fleshed fish) is alright, shrimp is fine, I like raw tuna, scallops are good, but I haven't never been able to get into crabs. A crab cake occasionally when I'm in MD on the coast but even then, it's mostly the fried filler I like lol

I’m not the giantest fan of lobster but I had fried tails one time at GW Fins and loved them. Fresh crab is pretty sweet tasting and goes very well with drawn or brown butter. A gentle like 30 second sautee of jumbo lump or claw meat and on top of any other protein from land or sea and it rules. I’m generally not going to sit there and pick at boiled crabs but that’s on me.
Ultra fresh and neither of those seafoods taste fishy. A wise bartender told us once that if you don’t like something it’s because you haven’t had it in a way that you like it yet.
Daughter brought me some chicken pulao which I had to look up. Pakistani. Tastes a lot like typical curry but different spices. They had it as family meal at work. Glad to be eating this.

that's fair, I dislike the sweetness of lobster and crabs, but balanced with something else would probably be fine
I entered a cookie contest at work. Pray for my fudgy smoked paprika cookies.
we're having a cookie contest at work too but i don't bake. can you make extra and mail them to me and i'll lie and say i made them, thanks.
ill box up and ship what’s left of these.
Apparently I’m the only person that made 50 cookies. Everyone else just kinda cut theirs up to get to 50 servings. At least I know Paul & Prue would be very pleased with their uniformity.

From what you just state, I am pretty sure you have this in the bag.
