Hatch chili season has started! saw a few at the farmer's market last weekend, hopefully gonna pick up a whole bunch this weekend and roast em for some chili and salsas.
Also gd right there too. I love Hatch Chilies. New Orleans was one of the first out of NM/AZ market areas to feature those 10+ years ago. Bayou grocer Rouse's started stocking and roasting them in the arm crank roasters outside the stores and they got big here. I know they're only available a few weeks during the year (August). One of these days I'm going to have to learn to can, jar and pickle shit to have it on hand when I want it. We'll be picking up some over the next week or so as well.
That’s killer. One day when I’m retired I’ll hopefully drive through New Mexico and try lots of their chilies. I’ve seen some shows where in some places, obviously Hatch as well, there is green chili or green chili sauce on everything from hamburgers to pozole to grilled meats and vegetables (not to mention ripened red chilies).
Im sure at a hatch festival there will be everything to try. And since you’re probably gonna gorge, I’ll look forward to reading a report if you post one. I’m a big fan of chilies. Growing up in Louisiana, we use a lot of cayennes. My moms people were French French and not Cajun, so she didn’t really cook with anything but bell peppers. But you get exposed to them over time with restaurants and seafood boils and all to where you get used to and actually crave some heat. I don’t like to take it all the way to hiccups , but I don’t mind some lip or mouth burn or sweat beads on my forehead. That’s one of the reasons I like hatch. You get that random one every now and then, but mostly they just impart flavor with a light heat.

Idk if yall saw the Twitter hype around the new Popeyes chicken sandwich, but all the corporate chicken sandwich accounts had jokes today, among others:
Bill Maher says liberals are boycotting In-N-Out burger. Why are we doing that? What did they do?
Dunno. They do put bible verses on the bottom of their cups, and I think they're a conservative family-owned company, but I dunno about anything worth boycotting over. I quit eating meat so I rarely go there anymore anyway though.
Was that Maher episode a re-run or is he literally that out of touch? People boycotted In-N-Out last summer when it was reported they donate to California's Republican Party. I thought maybe something new happened but nope, that story came out almost exactly a year ago.
Opinion: both sour cream and guacamole enhance tacos, but a taco never needs both. It's sorta redundant.
Burritos? Different story.
I disagree. I need sour cream on my tacos AND burritos. Guac on the other hand is an enhancement. I will take it on both and enjoy it on both, but it is not necessary. Same with nachos.
I made southwestern fried rice last night. Sauteed roasted hatch chilis, bell pepper, red onion, jalapenos, tomatoes, corn. squeeze of lime to finish. fried some rice in butter/soy sauce. mixed it all up, topped it with cilantro and avocado and hot sauce. it was delicious.

Having my first Shack Shake burger tomorrow. It better live up to the rep.
Edit-I don’t like crinkle cut fries. This isn’t going to go well.
Did not live up to my expectations. Shake was good though. And crinkly fries were not bad. Stole one of husband's. Nice and crunchy. Hamburger was not as good as Five Guys.
It’s avocado, lime, cilantro, salt, jalapeños, onion and sometimes cumin, tomato or other assorted add ons. All that shit is good in my book. It’s gotta be fresh due to the avocados though.

The problem is that cilantro tastes like soap to 20% of the world. Some weird taste bud thing. I like it, though.
I can't find it now but I saw some tweet awhile back that was like "glad I want born with that bitch-ass cilantro-hating gene".
I have a distinct memory of the first time I tasted cilantro because I was all, “why do some bites of this taco salad taste like soap?!” I didn’t actually find out what it was until several years later, but as soon as I heard about it, that taco salad made total sense.
