Instead of Dry January this year, my wife has convinced me to do Meatless January. I think I can do it, I've been slowly transitioning to a plant-heavy diet, but haven't given up meat entirely. If anyone has ways that I can get protein that don't involve tofu (gross) I'm all ears.

when I do it I go heavy on nuts in asian dishes, salads.
beans go a long way and can do different cuisines with it

Protein deficiency is really not that prominent of an issue on a vegetarian diet, though. You're not going to wither away. Eat some spinach, eat some quinoa, eat beans, and if you're not cutting dairy or eggs it really should be fine.

As mentioned, if you're still eating eggs and dairy you shouldn't have to try too hard to get enough protein, assuming you don't have reasons to shoot for extra protein consumption (like strength training or bodybuilding). Regardless, your two most protein-dense non-meat foods are most likely going to be protein powder and eggs. During the short span of time when I was both not eating meat but doing strength training, I would not have met my protein and calorie goals without them. Otherwise pretty much all kinds of beans and lentils, preferably with brown rice or quinoa.
Actually, I might join you on this. Gotta see if the lady's on board.

Cheese is a good protein source. Mozzarella has a good protein:fat ratio, but any cheese is going to be high in fat. Mozzarella at least has (again, relatively) lower saturated fats in it, too. About half saturated vs half unsaturated.
My friend said I was "a big mozzarella guy" once and I was kinda mad that he pigeon-holed me like that, but he was right.
One of the kids has some daube in the crockpot. It’s a beef in tomato gravy and wine dish (plus lots of aromatics). I would have done some of it differently, but he did a nice touch and roasted off the garlic first. It smells great, but I’m assuming there are several hours to go. He said he’s going to serve it over mashed potatoes. I’m already fucking hungry.
Update was it was great. And I ate too much, painfully so. To the point of if I belched I’d explode. It was only a half and 3/4 plates (old age I guess). Reminded me very much of some braised oxtails.
I mean, doesn't look great, but I'd rather eat that than bananas wrapped in ham topped with hollandaise.
I don’t like eggs so hollandaise is a no. Ham and bananas probably works okay. Didn’t Elvis used to eat bananas with bacon and peanut butter? I don’t like spaghetti-o’s. I don’t like Chef Boy-ar-dee either. That’s some rancid shit that tastes okay when you’re a kid but then becomes a turnoff to most people when they get older. As to Vienna sausages. Last time I had one I think I was 20 or 21. We were heading to the Smoky Mountains and stopped at some podunk gas station in Alabama. They had bbq ones which sounded okay. But I should have realized that the faded label meant this shit was old. I opened the can and pulled out one and it broke. I ate it and it wasn’t too good. But then I looked in the can and they were all broken up and disintegrating. That was all she wrote. I really don’t like any mushed and formed pork products except sausage. No hotdogs, baloney, spam, Treet [tm], Vienna sausages, McRibs or any of that nasty shit. :vomit:

I think people talk about that Elvis sandwich because it sounds pretty gross.
I have never had Vienna sausages and hope I never am tasked with eating them. I do like hotdogs, and I'll fuck with a McRib. Haven't gotten one since the re-issue but I hope to get one before they go away again.
Re: hot dogs, if it’s kosher or Nathan’s or something and I’m in NY state, I’ll eat one with Webber’s mustard (horseradish). But it’s pretty rare that I’m in NY. I think 2006 was my last visit.
Do y'all really not eat a hotdog when you go to Costco? You're missing out!
Haha. No. I don’t much like their pizza, so I skipped the hotdogs too. Some people have told me they like them, and I trust you. But I’m not getting one.

An Elvis sandwich is pretty great. It was the only redeeming part of the visit to Graceland. The worst tourist trap in America in one of my favorite cities.

Salt and Pepper cookies? I love salt and pepper chips, cookies have to be even better.

snowman,
This is strange to a city kid like me who didn't grow up on a farm or have any family members who did either. Obviously we don't eat our pets in America. But if I had chickens, cows, goats or pigs and got close enough to some of them to name them, I'm not going to eat them. That just sounds inhuman but it's the city boy talking. haha
Haha, it's the wife's family. I've never eaten a "pet" or anything. It was long before I was around.

Memphis is one of your favorite cities? How?
It's a great city. My personal favorite BBQ in America (KC is close), Gus' Fried Chicken, couple of cool museums, on the river. What's not to like?

Gus' is pretty great, but I've had way more bad times in that city than good
You and Jeff Buckley. Noted, I will adjust my personal rankings accordingly. I've only been 3 times, but it was a place that I thought I'd want to go back with a bunch of buddies.
