I made my Bonefish pics 80% and they still felt a little too big on desktop. I'll have to experiment with Vieux's way. 500px made them run off the screen on my phone. 300px looked good on my phone, but I haven't looked on desktop.
I’m proud of myself for this dressing I just threw together. It was California [tm] Citrus Champagne Vinegar, store EVOL, a third toe of crushed garlic, some Dijon, wildflower honey and 1/4 teaspoon of some blueberry pepper jelly a buddy made in Colorado, salt, pepper and Cajun spices. There was some lemon zest and about 1/5 lemon squeezed in. The vinegar made it could have used some fresh herbs but I didn’t have any on hand today. Baby spring mix, heirloom tomatoes and a little bit of chargrilled chicken breast.

when resizing images, it is generally better to use % rather than px. (not always!) px hard codes pixel widths, which means on mobile the pictures can be cut off the screen if the pixel width is greater than the display. when you use % the image should be dynamically resized based on the column width of the forum on whatever display device is being used. keep in mind the % width is not directly related to the image size, but how the image fits within the webpage (you are setting a size relative to other graphic elements on the page; for the forum that is the column width of the post area). So, a 600 pixel image at 100% width is nicely viewable on mobile because it is still dynamically resized; but an image hard coded to 600px will be cut off.
for example, in now playing dos I usually post images from bandcamp, which has a standard 1200x1200 image size. I typically post ~600 pixels (stereogum for al ong time used 608x608 as their standard and I got most of my images from them - but they got wonky). to get the 1200x1200 down to a ~600x600, I have to set the max-width to ~35%. So shrinking bonefish pics to 80% doesn't really do much. Not entirely intuitive, so it takes some playing around with. But i highly recommend using max-width percentages rather than hardcoded pixel sizes (unless you are using a small enough max-width px) because it will throw off the formatting of the image on small screens and not display the whole image.
tl;dr: the tradeoff is really that large images (that aren't resized) are huge on desktop, but look fine on mobile (because smaller screen) because of dynamic resizing. Large images that are reseized with max-width=XX% look good on desktop but small on mobile. Large images resized with max-width=XXpx look fine on desktop can get cutoff on mobile because if size is hardcoded larger than the mobile display element.
having a few friends over tonight for drinks and cookie decorating. i baked about 3 dozen sugar and gingerbread cookies yesterday before realizing one of my guests is gluten free now. so we'll be decorating all the cut out cookies, and i made my first ever batch of gluten free cookies (pb chocolate chip) so they can take some home too. also just finished up a practice run of focaccia for christmas (topped with garlic, rosemary and flaky salt). it smells ridiculously good, and i can't wait to taste it when it's cooled.

baked around 200 cookies yesterday! sea salt chocolate chip, ritz cracker, confetti, molasses spice, pecan brittle and oat, and about 2000 peanut butter because the recipe made double the amount that was expected.

Haha. I know what they are. It’s not even so much what they are, I just can’t really stomach organs. I remember being a little kid and being okay with a couple of the fried giblets you always found stuffed in a whole chicken which is the way people bought chicken when I was little. But at some point I tried some fried chicken livers and accidentally took a couple of bites of “things” in creole gumbo. So I won’t do it. I hate the smell of liver, like really hate it. So I just don’t go there. But in a similar vein, I did once get cock’s comb in my pho.
