What looked to be a made in heaven Week #17 for the NFL ended up only being partially good. There are still some important games, but several things have already worked out. 506 Maps are out, and it looks like both Fox & CBS have double headers Sunday. CBS early features the Chargers at KC in middle and Western America; Miami @ New England on the East Coast and NY Jets @ Buffalo in NY/NJ. CBS Late features Pittsburgh @ Ravens in the Northeast; Tennessee @ Houston in the middle of the country, Arizona and the NW, and Oakland @ Denver in the Mountain West and California.
Fox early has Green Bay @ Detroit to most of the country, Chicago @ Minnesota in the home markets, Saints @ Carolina in most of the SE except GA/FL which is Atlanta @ Tampa (except Jacksonville & Miami markets) and Cleveland @ Cincinnati. Fox late is Washington @ Dallas in most of the country, Eagles at Giants in the NE and North Dakota, Cardinals @ Rams in the home markets.
Sunday night football features San Francisco @ Seattle which is probably the most important game of the weekend.
Here is the current playoff breakdown:
AFC
1. Ravens - Clinched homefield 2. Patriots (KC can get the bye with a win and New England loss, Patriots in with a win or tie) 3. Chiefs (see above) 4. Texans 5. Buffalo Bills 6. Tennessee Titans (win and in)
Still Alive:
Pittsburgh - A) In with win or tie and TN loss; B) TN loss, Colts win, Oakland loss or tie; C) TN loss, Colts win, Pit ties Oakland in strength-of-victory) Oakland - In with win, Pitt loss, TN loss, Colts win & strength-of-victory if Bears, Lions, Chargers or Patriots win)
NFC
1. 49ers Clinch bye with win, tie & GB loss, tie & Saints loss or tie; clinch homefield with win or tie & Green Bay loss/tie and Saints loss/tie
2. Packers A) clinch bye with win or Saints loss or tie & 49ers loss or tie and Saints tie; B) Clinch homefield with win & 49ers loss or tie; tie and 49ers loss + Saints loss or tie
3. Saints - Clinch bye with win & GB loss or tie; win & 49ers loss or tie; tie & GB loss; tie & 49ers loss; 49ers loss and GB wins or ties; clinch home field with win and GB loss or tie and SF loss or tie or tie and GB & 49ers Loss
4. Eagles clinch with win or tie OR Dallas loss or tie
5. Seahawks - Clinch division with win; clinch bye with win and Green Bay loss; clinch homefield with win and losses by Green Bay and Saints
Michael Thomas is on the injury report as "limited" with a hand injury. It's not supposed to be serious, though. The Saints have needed a #2 receiver all season.
You've got Michael Thomas with 145 receptions, Kamara at 79, and Jared Cook at 41. Ted Ginn is the #2 with only 29. TAYSOM HILL has more receptions than the 3rd receiver. Taysom Hill pretty much IS the #3 receiver.
So I'm assuming the idea is to line up Antonio Brown opposite Michael Thomas, with Kamara in the backfield and Cook at TE with Drew Brees throwing the ball. I kinda think that it's worth testing out for one almost meaningless game at Carolina before the playoffs.
If I were on defense trying to prepare for that roster, I'd be nervous.
We just don’t have anyone else. It’s basically Thomas, the real [tm] greatest receiver, Jared Cook and Alvin Kamara. Tre’Quan could do something but not so far. And Ginn is great but is kind of one trick in our offense. We recently signed Manti Teo again when we lost a couple LBs, Jenkins and Swearenger. So I think it’s probably some vets for the playoff run. Can’t hurt I don’t think.

bold prediction lol
but i mostly agree, its not like he tanked the Pats or anything. if it doesnt work, cut and move on.
i think it reflects poorly on the league that they havent already done an investigation. pretty whack that they can just hold it over his head like that while he's a free agent.
"Winston is the Benjamin Button of interceptions. There aren’t going to be more players like Winston. He’s a one-of-a-kind anti-star who cloaks his devastating tendency for self-destruction inside of a game that reasonably replicates the things good quarterbacks do. He succeeds often enough that teams might be convinced to let him ruin them.
As a neutral observer, I love it. Efficient quarterback play has become the standard in the modern NFL. Everybody is chasing the most efficient path to success … except this one guy who seems equally interested in success and failure. I’m just glad it’s not my house exploding."
along with a Raiders playoff spot, and a Marshawn return, I am pulling for the 5k-30-30 season for Jameis.
Would that not make sense considering he has been in the league for most of the decade? Julio has been the man, and congratulations to him for the honor.
There is only one best wide receiver now. He is writing the record books.

Unless they feel like giving him time served for this period he's been a free agent.

Well, they probably wont.
if teams wanted to sign him, but knew there would be some kind of suspension, the league has basically reduced his ability to get another job. they should have done the investigation when the thing happened, so that there would be a reasonable expectation for what to expect. the league has basically put out a statement today that if brown is signed theyre going to pull the rug out from under him and whatever team signs him has zero idea what the league will do. they're blackmailing teams into not signing him by holding a possible suspension over his head.
he mostly hasn't been signed because he's been a head case, and i don't think anyone really believes he's going to turn it around. but at the end of the day the league has had X amount of time to get this done, for a player who has been signed by 2 teams this year, who clearly still has some signability left in him, and theyve just chosen to back pocket punishment for a rainy day.
That’s one of the reasons I hope we are just finding a way to help say fuck you to the league.
Yeah on paper it seems more like a way for Payton to troll Roger, but there are also bad optics to signing a possible rapist and team distraction just for the lulz.
Seeing Saints fans complaining that Goodell is trying to screw them over with the Antonio Brown situation. Pretty dumb.
It's been a known secret that the league would put him on the Commissioner's Exempt list if anyone signed him followed but a likely suspension after the investigation. That was the case long before the Saints decided to pursue him.
Always fuck some whiner bitch fans. Also fuck some Panthers. I hope we destroy them regardless of what else happens this weekend. Ideally we get a bye and see what’s up. If not, we didn’t do enough. That’s on us. Lots of fine lines even if we end up 12-4 or 13-3. It’s a top heavy year in the NFC.

Coaching Carousel Update:
Washington - wants to name a coach tomorrow, supposedly it's down to Marv Lewis, Ron Rivera, Eric Bieniemy, if it's Bieniemy he can't be hired until after the Chiefs are done; Bruce Allen will be reassigned, supposedly Urban Meyer could get a front office job NY Giants - supposedly Rivera would prefer a reunion with Gettleman here Carolina - interviewing Matt Rhule after his Sugar Bowl is over Cleveland - Kitchens is out, Dorsey to follow? Jacksonville - Marrone has been told he's done. See ya later St. Doug!
Brees was a pretty big snub in the NFL top 100. I will continue to argue that he’s the second best QB now and possibly of all time. I’m not really sure why he doesn’t get the credit he is due. Some of it probably is the era he plays in and coming on the heels of Favre and Manning. He’s arguably the best if he would have won 3 Super Bowls or more by retirement, but that’s the only way to push him to Brady level in my mind.
Big for us today would be to turn it over one or fewer times against Carolina to set the new record for turnovers in a 16 game season. It’s currently 10, and we have only 8. That’s one of the reasons we are 12-3 (+12 turnover ratio).
